During a house party attended by L'il Z where they have an altercation with Pimp Mike resulting in L'il Z's death; Mathias is pursued by police officers who turn out to be Jim (his stepfather). In their heated exchange during arrest about his behavior reveals troubling family news leading Mathias into custody for processing at LAPD before being sent to youth detention center as consequences for his actions unfold before him.
The story then unfolds within the youth detention center where we learn that Belinda has cancer while incarcerated leading feelings of guilt & rage upon her passing away; flashback recalls traumatic experience with Coach Warren triggering violent behavior towards another inmate in detention center showers. Mathias is placed in solitary confinement where he experiences a miraculous encounter with his mother's ghost that heals his hands and brings him peace.
