Inside Broadway’s James Earl Jones Theatre on a recent afternoon, Huey Lewis has some actual good news. Checking his texts, he learns that Martin Short will be attending the opening of The Heart of Rock and Roll, the rom-com musical based around songs from his catalog. Also on the list for the first-night celebration are Michael J. Fox and the members of Lewis’ band, the News.
But anyone expecting Lewis to jump onstage and join the cast in song will be disappointed. “Can’t do it,” he says resolutely.

Now streaming on Screambox is the fan-made documentary focusing on the 80’s cult classic, Clue: The Movie.
In the spirit of The Shark Is Still Working (Jaws) and Back In Time (Back to the Future), Who Done It: The Clue Documentary is lensed by filmmaker fans who want to know the entire story of the production.
The doc features interviews with writer/director Jonathan Lynn and cast members Colleen Camp (Yvette), Michael McKean (Mr. Green), Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet), and Lee Ving (Mr. Boddy), among others.
“Clue is one of the most enjoyable, quotable and rewatchable films of the past 35 years,” director Jeff C. Smith originally stated when the project was announced. “When I couldn’t find the answers to questions I have always wondered (like who came up with Madeline Kahn’s amazing ‘Flames on the side of my face’ speech), I decided to go find out for myself.

This review contains spoilers for the show's visual surprises.
The original 1985 "Back to the Future" movie is a fantasy. It's a teen time travel fantasy about knocking sense into your disappointing parents and ensuring they grow into better people. It's a fantasy where "If You Put Your Mind To It, You Can Accomplish Anything" pays dividends as an adage. It's also a visual effects dream — courtesy of its director-screenwriter Robert Zemeckis and Ilm — that rode the waves of critical and commercial success, two sequels, pop culture homages, and now a "Back to the Future: The Musical."
The famed DeLorean time machine skids onto Broadway's Winter Garden stage, as the West End version dances on. Within a few blinding flashes, the vehicle pops up like magic thanks to Chris Fisher's illusion work and Tim Lutkin & Hugh Vanstone's tactful lighting. Its 3D scan designed by Tim Hatley, the DeLorean feels alive.

It’s been 38 years since the release of the film version of Back to the Future.
But the cast gathered earlier this week as if no time had passed at all, joining a gala celebrating Back to the Future: The Musical, which is currently playing in previews at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway ahead of an Aug. 3 opening date.
The plot line of the stage show follows the film. The logline: “When Marty McFly finds himself transported back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown, he accidentally changes the course of history. Now he’s in a race against time to fix the present, escape the past and send himself … back to the future.”
On hand for the gala on Tuesday were the original Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), along with costars Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines), Don Fullilove (Mayor...

The "Ant-Man" movies have always been kind of an outlier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They tend to focus on everyday people reacting to larger-than-life comic book stories. After over a decade of Marvel movies, most of them have escalated to the point where their characters don't feel like just regular people with superpowers anymore, the way they do in the comics, but the "Ant-Man" movies always did. The supporting cast is comprised of regular citizens who are not related to the superhero life, so when the superheroic battles and mayhem arrives, it always felt dangerous and important.
That was until "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," by far the biggest, weirdest movie in the trilogy, and one that trades fun wacky grounded characters like Michael Peña's Luis for a bunch of sci-fi creatures that look straight out of a "Rick and Morty" episode. The “Sunday” number in Netflix’s musical “tick, tick…Boom” is nirvana for Broadway lovers because of the number of Great White Way legends who make cameos including Joel Grey, Chita Rivera, Bernadette Peters, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter. “It was the biggest swing we took from a tech perspective, from an effects perspective, from a musical perspective,” revealed Lin-Manuel Miranda, who made his feature directorial debut with this adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s 1991 show. Larson died in 1996 at the age of 35 the day before the first off-Broadway preview performance of the ground-breaking, classic musical “Rent.”
During a recent Variety Zoom interview about the film, which recently earned PGA and DGA nominations, Miranda explained he hired Michael Starobin, who did original arrangements for Stephen Sondheim’s classic “Sunday in the Park with George,” to arrange “Sunday.” But shooting the number was complicated by Covid. “What should have been an incredibly fun,...

The “Back to the Future” films predicted the September 11 attacks as well as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Jr., at least according to fans.
These are just two of the craziest theories about the 1980s sci-fi trilogy that are floating around the internet. Many also suggest that George McFly actually knew that Calvin Klein was his future son, and that it is Doc and Marty’s fault that we don’t have hoverboards today. There are more, but some of them are even too crazy to understand.
In light of the official “Back to the Future II” day on Oct. 21, which was also the day which Michael J. Fox‘s time-traveling teenager Marty McFly visited in the film, TheWrap takes a look at the five most out-of-this world conspiracy theories.

Chinese romance film “Love You Forever” earned a stunning $38.3 million on Tuesday, its opening day in mainland China cinemas. That figure is the highest single day score achieved by any film worldwide in 2020.
The film tells the story of a man who is able to go back in time to save the tragically-shortened life of his young lover, but his ability comes with a heavy price. It features rising Taiwan star Lee Hongchi and Li Yitong (TV’s “Legend of the Condor”).
“Love You Forever” was released to coincide with Chinese Valentine’s Day, otherwise known as Qixi Festival, a moveable feast that takes place on the seventh day of the seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
For most of the past seven months, Chinese cinemas were closed due to the coronavirus that broke out at Chinese New Year, and the disease control measures that followed. Theaters re-opened on...

In an era of endless reboots, remakes, and sequels — “Ghostbusters,” “Saw,” “Oceans 8,” the list goes on — some of the most beloved film franchises have yet to be milked for their IP. Chief among them is the “Back to the Future” trilogy, Robert Zemeckis’ ’80s classic featuring a time-traveling teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and his wacky scientist companion Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd).

The account recently posted a deepfake featuring Fox’s face convincingly replaced with Tom Holland’s and Lloyd’s replaced with Robert Downey Jr.’s.
To the casual observer, it’s tough to tell the actors in the scene are the subjects of digital plastic surgery. They look and move naturally enough, but their voices are still those of Fox and Lloyd’s.

The Flash episode 100 is a fine reminder of everything that has worked about this show since the first season.
This The Flash review contains spoilers.
The Flash Season 5 Episode 8
Well, here we are. 100 episodes of The Flash. Almost five years to the day since we first met Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen on Arrow in “The Scientist.” It’s been quite a race, and we’re nowhere near the finish line.
There were several ways “What’s Past is Prologue” could have gone. The most obvious would have been to really lay on the syrup and turn this into a self-congratulatory fan-centric party. To their credit, they didn’t do it. Instead, The Flash episode 100 exists firmly to advance the season’s story, and almost gets a little playful with the conventions of anniversary episodes. With all the time-hopping back to specific episodes, could you almost consider this a clip show?...

In “Clínica de Migrantes,” the real people — and their very real lives — that are part of the currently raging undocumented immigrant debate. The documentary follows a wide range of people who all converge on the eponymous health clinic, in search of affordable (and safe) health care.
From the doctors who staff them to the patients desperate for the kind of care that costs too much (in both time and worry), the documentary takes an apolitical stance on an extremely timely issue, forcing its audience to engage with some uncomfortable questions.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Game of Thrones” Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf.”]
Jaime Lannister finally declared his independence, and it only took him seven seasons to do so. In the Season 7 finale of “Game of Thrones” on Sunday, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) outwardly defied his Cersei (Lena Headey) to join the forces meeting with the undead enemy in the North.
The series has played out Jaime’s twisted love affair with his own twin sister since the very first episode, and over time, it’s become clear that he’s far more invested in their relationship than she is. Even when she’s done terrible things that go against his moral code, he’s stuck by her. This time is different though. When she reveals that she had lied about sending her own forces to help Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) fight White Walkers, Jaime decides he won’t stick by her side anymore.

At the King’s Landing version of Yalta, with feuding superpowers gathered to face a growing threat, Tyrion proclaims ”There is no conversation that will erase the last 50 years.” That certainly didn’t stop “Game of Thrones” from spending most of Season 7 endeavoring to rewrite the history books in fateful conversations: backroom deals, clifftop confrontations, even in words on a page recorded before some of these major players were even born.
Yet whenever Season 7 faltered, spun itself in circles trying to set up a fuzzy endgame, it turned to spectacle to deliver the figurative death blow, even if that wasn’t always literal. Billed as a meeting of the minds, writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss delivered a batch of parting shots worthy of a season-long buildup. With interpersonal beats and world-shifting revelations, both were delivered with the force necessary to sustain this TV megalith. It’s a dramatic...

Philip and Elizabeth are closer than ever, and on The Americans Season 5 Episode 4, we're reminded of why that's not as great as it sounds. Not for Soviet spies.
In the best hour of the season so far, the effects of spying are wearing thin on both Philip and Elizabeth, and they're wearing their emotions more prominently than any disguise.
I don't think for a second that either Philip or Elizabeth wants Paige to follow in their footsteps.
They brought her in because of the pressure put on them by the Centre and because of what she did to put the family in jeopardy with Pastor Tim. Do I think it's right? No. But then, I'm not a Kgb agent.
In some fashion, it seemed to be the right move to keep her safe. Teaching Paige about what they do and the...

Let the journeys begin!
Bjorn set sail on a sunny day with everyone wishing him and Hvitserk well on Vikings Season 4 Episode 12.
Ragnar on the other hand, is not off to a very good start.
Everyone said the gods were with Bjorn, and not Ragnar, and so far that appears to be the case. Ragnar and Ivar chose to ignore the signs and take their chances anyway.
It was bad enough Ragnar had to resort to bribing people to sail with him. If that wasn't a sign that he probably shouldn't go, I don't know what is. Well, Aslaug's vision of Ivar drowning, maybe.
It's kind of funny that no one wanted to go with Ragnar because they believed the gods weren't with him, but they were willing to change their minds once he pulled out the treasure chest.
What good is money if you believe your trip is doomed?...

As if the very concept of alien robot cars at war weren’t crazy enough, Transformers: The Last Knight is throwing still more nuttiness into the mix. Like baby dinobots, who need Grimlock to teach them to spit fire. And Squeeks, a cute little Vespa Transformer reminiscent of Bb-8. The return of Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, genius inventor. […]

Ragnar's back, but was it a welcome reunion?
Vikings Season 4 Episode 11 picked up right where we left off, with tensions high as Ragnar gave each of his sons an opportunity to kill him and take his throne.
For a moment there, it looked like Ubbe was strongly considering it. I'm guessing we all let out a collective breath when Ragnar pulled him into a hug.
Not that I actually thought we'd reached the end of Ragnar, but I was half expecting someone (not one of his sons) to challenge him and wind up dead.
Of course, everyone is weary of why he's back. Does he honestly expect his sons to drop their lives, forgive the years he's abandoned them, and happily join him on his journey to England?
Bjorn doesn't appear to be holding a grudge against him, but he has plans of his own and isn't about to drop them.

We’re less than a month away from the release of Assassin’s Creed and I can’t help but wonder if anyone outside of the faithful are prepared to lay down money to watch Michael Fassbender kind-of sort-of time travel into the distant past so he can stab people in the face. Camp Stillwater is closed for good.
Freeform decided not to renew the horror drama for a second season.
While the Us is watching horror unfold on election night, ABC is doling out bad news.
First we received word that Conviction is a goner. While they'll produce all 13 episodes, that will be the end of that.
Now we learn our fun in the 80s was one and done.
Really, though, it's not a surprise. Not only were the ratings abysmal this past summer (dead was a great title), but there was a conclusion. That's a lot better than we get from a lot of shows.
If there had been a second season, it would have likely gone back to the 70s and checked in with Elizabeth Mitchell's character as a teen, so a whole new cast, etc.
And I really believe had the demand for a second season been there,...

It was an honest mistake.
I thought CBS’s new MacGyver series was going to be a continuation of the 80s original, as in the new MacGyver would be the old MacGyver’s son/nephew/other relation. But then I saw that dreaded word: reboot.
A reboot means the original deserves a reexamination, so I watched the 1985 pilot (series available on Netflix) to see how much things have changed in MacGvyer-land in 31 years.
The first time we see Angus MacGyver (played by Richard Dean Anderson) in the original, he’s hanging off the side of a cliff “somewhere in Central Asia.”
In the MacGyver Season 1 Episode 1 reboot, a much-younger MacGyver (Lucas Till) is in a tux in Lake Como, using his voice-over to describe sex with his girlfriend, who also happens to be the “analyst” in his ear on his latest mission.

Timing is everything.
Joe's entire arc just crashed and into Gordon's after a simple suggestion from Cameron. The way that all came together was brilliant.
But the best Donna could do to fix things with Cameron on Halt and Catch Fire Season 3 Episode 6 was a fantasy conversation while on 'shrooms. God. I love this show.
Cameron appeared to be at ease after marrying Tom, but using him like a security blanket probably wasn't the best idea. It's not something she really thought about until Joe pointed it out to her, but she wasn't happy.
A happily married person would be shouting it to the world, not hiding away their ring in their jeans pocket. Like everything else in her life, she wanted it to be a secret, something she could keep private and pull out when she needed it.
But like Tom said, he'd be joining her soon. She'd have...

Bill and Virginia have always considered themselves able to see the truth in their clients. However, they may not be as clever as they think they are.
On Masters of Sex Season 4 Episode 2, Bill and Virginia took on the task of working with new associates, but their new colleagues may turn out to be more than they bargained for.
Elsewhere in the episode, Libby finally unleashed her truth to Bill, and Virginia crossed the line with her former therapist.
After a fairly dull and slow premiere, we finally got back into the drama. Bill and Virginia thought their idea of hiring new associates was brilliant, but they clearly can't read people.
Nancy and Art are hiding their relationship, and I have no idea why. Are they desperate to work together, but fear their relationship (marriage?) will make others uncomfortable? Or do these two have an agenda that involves Bill and Virginia?...

Is Mutiny about to get a taste of its name?
There's little doubt after watching Halt and Catch Fire Season 3 Episode 5 that things at Mutiny will never be the same again.
They are already very, very different than the tiny company Cameron believes is still part and parcel of her very soul. But the harder she tries to keep as much as she can wound tight inside her, the more of a mess she creates.
So trading stuff online wasn't going to last long. We knew monetary transactions were coming. It was also an easy guess which of the Mutiny partners would support the decision to take them and which wouldn't.
Jumping forward to the end of this conversation, even before communication broke down again, when Donna thought she had agreed to Cameron's method, there was no way in the world I believed her.
No transaction fee? What's the point then,...

So... what did you think of Queen Sugar?
Following the premiere of this Own drama, TV Fanatics Jenn, Jasmine, and Christine O. have gathered to debate the following:
Nova going off on Charley... whether or not Davis could actually be innocent as he claimed... whether Darla deserves a second chance... and their favorite moments from Queen Sugar Season 1 Episode 1 and Queen Sugar Season 1 Episode 2.
Was Nova justified in going off on Charley for calling the caterer?
Jenn: Clearly there is some underlining tension, especially after finding out they have different mothers. I get Nova was upset, but I don't think she should have gone off on Charley. Charley was just trying to help in some way and feel a part.
Jasmine: No. Charley was genuinely trying to help and was in no way showing off or throwing money around. Nova is justified in lashing out at Charley for a few things,...

Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson have a long and complicated relationship. After finally hitting rock bottom, has Bill finally learned to let go?
Even though he appeared to find some clarity in Masters of Sex Season 4 Episode 1, I'm not betting on Bill's revelation lasting too long.
The world is quickly changing around them, but Bill and Virginia always seem to find their way back to one another.
We caught up with the estranged duo several weeks after the events of Masters of Sex Season 3 Episode 12. Bill was trying out an overgrown beard and drinking himself into a stupor, while Virginia rambled on about her husband Dan and slept with a bartender.
It's unclear what happened with Dan and Virginia after they boarded that plane, but he was nowhere to be found. It's possible they never got married or they did get hitched and Dan turned out to not be the man Virginia thought he was.

Even as the Bordelons came together for Ernest's funeral on Queen Sugar Season 1 Episode 2, their differing points of view were pulling at the seams of their family bonds.
But let’s start from the beginning…
Samuel Landry showed up on Ernest's property with surveyors, trying to assess what the land was worth. I was relieved that Charley wasn’t buying any of his bull. Her father hasn’t even been buried yet and this man was circling like a vulture looking to pick his estate clean.
Needless to say, Samuel Landry will be trouble. The only question is, will he have the Bordelons banding together or tearing one another apart?
Because the claws came out as they made funeral arrangements. Charley more than has the money to pay for the whole thing, but Nova won’t allow that. She also managed to shut Charley out of making almost all of the decisions.

If Donna and Cameron's relationship is the most important aspect of Diane's firm investing in Mutiny, they're going to be in for an unpleasant surprise.
Donna's losing interest in keeping it real with Cameron, and on Halt and Catch Fire Season 3 Episode 4 she takes lying to a completely new level.
Not that I blame her. I'm starting to wonder whether there is a long-term role for Cameron at the company she started.
Watch Halt and Catch Fire Season 3 Episode 4 Online
It's hard to be a fan of Cameron's. She may be intelligent, but it's almost an idiot savant type of intellect. She has a singular focus and everything else suffers as a result.
She's not taking care of herself. Now that she has help from the Swap Meet owners and programmers, she doesn't want to play ball with them because it means changing her code, which just so happens to...

What a season finale, right?
Dead of Summer Season 1 Episode 10 found the campers all reunited, some in zombie form (the headless Blotter was a little too much, though), and had Jessie running for her life from Amy/Malphus, who couldn't leave as long as a part of Holyoke's soul lived in Jessie.
Below, TV Fanatics Yana Grebenyuk, Allison Nichols, and Caralynn Lippo discuss the killer finale, the fate of the survivors, their hopes for potential future seasons, and more!
React to Amy's killer game of hide and seek.
Yana: I was honestly worried for all of them. Her creepy killer antics never wavered and I was expecting them all to be killed. It was very American Psycho like which I appreciated. I also really enjoyed that we saw some familiar faces, I didn't know how much I needed that until they appeared. It's nice that they had an ending for each character,...

Comic Books: The DC Universe-then And Now!
Recently I wrote an article for introducing new readers to the world of Batman. The purpose of the article was to help new and casual readers find strong starting points in the characters 75+ years of publication to begin reading. It was suggested that perhaps to coincide with these types of articles; it would be helpful to have a sort of reference point for major content-altering events in the DC Comics Universe, along with perhaps a quick glossary of some key words used in the Comic Book Vernacular. My goal here will be to hopefully give a brief but well-presented breakdown of the DC Universe from inception to the current state. Keep in mind this will only be covering the major continuity/time altering events, and will not each and every company event that’s been published.

“Stranger Things” hype shows no signs of slowing a month after the ’80s nostalgia-fest first debuted on Netflix. The show’s synth-heavy soundtrack continues to be among its most popular elements, so news of its official release should come as pleasant (if unsurprising) news to many. Volume One is already available digitally and coming to the now-rarefied CD format on September 16; Volume Two is now streaming on Soundcloud and can be bought on CD as of September 23.

With “Stranger Things” as the buzziest new show, and “Pete’s Dragon” gliding into theaters on the strongest reviews for a major studio release in months, 2016 could go down in the history books as the Summer of Spielberg — as long as you overlook the movie Steven Spielberg actually directed.
Both the Duffer Brothers’ Netflix series and David Lowery’s Disney remake are fueled by ’80s nostalgia, specifically the world captured as captured in 1982’s “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” and 1985’s Spielberg-produced “The Goonies.” It’s a place of fractured families and corded phones, wood-paneled station wagons and well-meaning villains.
The vogue for Spielberg-esque entertainment is in some ways a simple matter of chickens coming home to roost: Lowery was born in 1980; the Duffer twins, Matt and Ross, in 1984. “E.T.” and its infinite lesser derivatives would have entered their consciousness before they gained the ability to distinguish one from the other.

The upcoming documentary “Killing The Colorado” examines the man-made water crisis that’s affecting the American West. At one point, water was an abundant necessity, and now it’s a scarce and complex commodity. Though many efforts have been taken to curb excessive water use in the West, it’s not clear shorter showers and ripping out lawns will make any discernible difference. While recent drought conditions have diminished the once-mighty Colorado River — the source of the vast majority of the West’s water — experts are now wondering whether the most severe shortages have been caused not by weather or consumer choices but by short-sighted policies and poor planning. Did we cause this crisis, and can we find a way to fix it? Watch an exclusive clip from the doc below.

Today being international jazz day, there will be much celebrating of the greatness of its history. I’ve done that in the past; it is a great history. But it is not all back in historical times; jazz lives, and evolves, and continues to be great. Yet how many lists of the greatest jazz albums include anything from the current century?

RoboDoc is to be released to mark the 30th anniversary of the original RoboCop - and it'll be exploring the original film...
There’s no shortage of films about popular films doing the rounds at the moment. Back In Time examined the Back To The Future trilogy, Shooting Clerks will appear later this year to explore the genesis of Kevin Smith’s comedy favourite. Then there are two different Ghostbusters documentaries happening, as well as Life After Flash, which centres on Flash Gordon.
Now? Add RoboCop to the mix.
RoboDoc is a documentary film from the makers of Leviathan: The Story Of Hellraiser And Hellbound: Hellraiser 2. The production promises an independent retrospective on the sci-fi classic, in time for its 30th birthday next year. Over 20 members of the cast and crew have already agreed to support the project.
Christopher Griffiths is directing RoboDoc, and Gary Smart is producing.

The 1980-something-set series, well-known for how well it’s embraced 80’s culture throughout its three seasons is bringing Yankovic in as the 1980s version of himself as Adam (Sean Giambrone) and his girlfriend Dana (Natalie Alyn Lind), much to her chagrin, head to a Weird Al concert. The team behind The Goldbergs have done a phenomenal job at getting Yankovic back to his most famous look, and, based on the photos from the episode, it looks
