Frankenfake is fake. Don't believe this garbage.
matrox-elspada11 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
*Spoilers ahead for those who have NOT watched Face Off and don't know the basic story of what's going on*

I'll do everyone a favor right now that watches the show Face Off, and have watched the first episode of Season 3, that Joe Castro is nothing more than a liar and someone who wants to make a successful show go to ruins. That favor - don't watch this garbage that Escobar and Castro have made.

To say that he was harassed and etc, he retaliates by going back to the Face Off areas to get his contracts over and over and over and causes nothing but trouble. He is a nuisance to the general public with this phone camera on 24/7 by the seems of it, to get every little detail so then when someone stuffs up and "bullies" him, he can make a little documentary for everyone to watch.

While watching this, I felt just, horrible. The way they made Face Off look like it was the most rigged thing on the planet. "As quoted in the documentary - "You can't defame someone in public" - yes well Mr. Castro I am afraid you just defamed a lot of people in your documentary.

We watch Face Off because we love it. We like seeing artists work and for this Yo-Yo to make a documentary stating how he is Mr Innocent, HE is the clear liar. Making stuff up as he goes along. The footage shown could have been recorded and then made to look like surveillance footage - this is because Castro wants everyone to be on his side and not on the others.

Along with this we have a narrator that exacerbates everything in dialogue. Poor "reenactments". And etc. Castro saying "They said this, they did that". Where's your proof exactly apart from paper work that could have been made up by yourself on notepad and printed out? And footage you could have easily made yourself.

As for stating that they...er...photoshopped the "thing" (Sorry for Tommy having to work with him - there was nothing he could do to save this monstrosity going out on stage) that Castro had designed in Face Off and showing evidence by showing you 4 frames of video is utterly insane. It's all just a massive train wreck.

I could go on and on, when I first seen his appearance on Face Off, I could appreciate the fact that he tried, but when he goes on through that episode in particular then walks out, it just shows what type of person he is.

I apologize to all of the staff, artists and FX magicians on the show who have to deal with this Yo-Yo and all the mess he has caused. Especially for him to make a Documentary to show that he was bullied and etc. But that is made up in Castro's mind and, majority of what you see is doctored by him in the editing room anyway! Major Fail.

Out of interest, if you want to go have a look at it, be prepared, but I did warn you though, just be ready to feel anger build up once you have finished getting through it (if you can that is).

If this wasn't enough, go see the reviews for his other movies. It really goes to show you that what he creates, is simply not worth the time watching.

Frankenfake epitomizes the exact thing they claim to expose.
samuel_walker200213 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
**POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD**

I can't emphasize enough what a despicable, revolting load of garbage this documentary is. As an avid watcher of reality TV, I thought this would be an interesting look at the underside of what we all know to be heavily produced, manufactured programming. I was not prepared for the absolutely farcical, defamatory and in the end disgusting excuse for a documentary that this rubbish turned out to be. Steven Escobar and Joe Castro should hang their heads in shame.

From the horrific reenactments portraying the producers, staff and contestants of Face Off, which are almost like a pantomime with Joe Castro playing the part of the innocent victim and his counterparts screeching, bellowing and scheming like Disney villains, to the immature name calling, photo manipulation and slanderous accusations supported by little to no actual evidence, this documentary treats the viewer like a fool from the outset.

Calling people's innocent and uninvolved wives "400lb shut ins" in an attempt to either tarnish the husband's character or simply to cause embarrassment, accusing people of statutory rape with no supporting evidence, making fun of people's weight, appearance, physical fitness and what was by far the most insidious and unethical part of the whole film; outing supposedly closeted homosexuals. The film is simply putrid from beginning to end.

Worst of all are the obviously fabricated pieces of "evidence". Whenever there's an outlandish claim made the is always a miraculous "video message" or conveniently recorded Skype conversation to support it. If they don't have that there's another ridiculous reenactment. Then there's completely uninvolved people weighing in as if their opinion holds any weight as evidence. Anyone with half a brain can see that the majority of this stuff is made up or fabricated. Especially amusing when throughout the entire film they superimpose the word LIAR on people's heads when they're doing the exact same thing themselves. Whenever there is actual footage of Castro interacting with the people he claims wronged him so grievously, it's always him acting like an aggressive, inflammatory douche and the other party acting frustratedly respectful. The two only pieces of evidence which appear real are; one person running down a road after him, which could easily be interpreted as concern for his welfare. Although this could easily have been faked since all you see is extremely grainy footage of one larger man running after one smaller man and this could easily be Castro and his partner Escobar running down the road. And some low resolution footage of a car pulling up to a curb and throwing some luggage into the gutter. Which could also be fake, but If it is real then it is, while unprofessional, pretty funny and probably well deserved. Ultimately though, the entire film appears to be smoke and mirrors with very little, if any, factual substance.

How they have not been sued is amazing to me. Although I suspect that the folks from Face Off have cleverly decided to give Escobar and Castro enough rope to hang themselves with their own ridiculousness. Anyone who sees this will take the obvious viewpoint that Castro is a nut case and everything that happened was caused by his own lunacy. Why his partner, who appears to be slightly less insane, has gone along for the ride is anyone's guess.

I went in with an open mind hoping for an expose of sorts, I was simply amazed that this tripe was ever released. What a waste of money guys. You've only made yourselves look completely stupid. It should almost be watched simply because it so bad.

Joe Castro's pitiful attempt to Garner his 15 minutes of fame
bobbyshaddoe30048 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Face Off the series. I love the creativity on display and the various artists that appeared.

When I saw season three and saw Joe's work, I thought he was unorthodox but talented even if it had a raw quality to things. His inability to work with Tommy and how he just ran roughshod over Tommy was odd, but not unexpected as there have been people like that that seem to take point with great ideas that end up not coming across as they intended.

When Joe walked out, it was clear he was just in over his head and couldn't handle the criticism and rather than let the judges eliminate him, he just left.

I came into contact with Joe Castro on Facebook and he recommended I check out this documentary. I was curious, so I did. It was on Amazon Prime but not anymore.

I love documentaries that are informative about certain people and scenarios, whether it be true crime or otherwise. But FrankenFake is not a documentary, it's a revenge piece. It's 80 minutes of Joe Castro bitching and moaning and spouting conspiracy theories, making baseless accusations, devolving into name-calling and acting like a petulant child towards the entire staff of Face Off. It's slanderous, defamatory, inflammatory, and just not terribly good. You know you're in trouble and are incapable of being objective and unbiased in your documentary when even the voice over narrator resorts to name calling out the gate.

And to make matters worse, I tried explaining this to Joe, that the documentary seed to paint him in a very unprofessional light given how aggressive he behaved at certain points, and how most of the people interviewed seemed like they had an ax to grind against the show and the judges as well.

And knowing how Joe would respond, and rather than be subjected to it, I blocked him on Facebook. And Joe being Joe, he tried to circumvent the block by using his partners account to attack and insult me. Then attempted to get a friend of mine that he is also associated with and basically try to tell them how I said mean and nasty things about his shit documentary, only to tell him off for how immature he was being for trying to get someone involved that had nothing to do with the situation.

Frankly, this documentary is garbage and Joe tries to play the victim when he is the biggest bully of them all. He is also a hack make up artist and a shitty filmmaker.

Do yourself a favor and don't watch this or anything Joe has done.

Something amiss

If you need a good laugh check this out. Claims are made with little evidence to support the subjects walking away from Faceoff when his makeup was clearly going to be on the bottom.

Truth Hurts
tvuser3 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
***Contains Spoilers***

I totally DISAGREE with the 2 reviews posted. First of all, the show probably doesn't air in Australia so the fact that they are both from there draws big suspicion that these are either the producers of FACE OFF or someone involved with them.

This documentary has been out since September of 2014 when I heard that the producers of Face Off got a screening removed from MonsterPalooza in Burbank. The screening still happened but it was across the street. I guess the producers of Face Off were scared of the truth being told to their fans.

I believe everything in this documentary because reality television has had been known to abuse contestants while they film and they get away with it through their long contracts.

If they believe that this is false information, then why haven't the producers tried to sue them for making this documentary? Probably because its all true. It's so typical to throw insults to someone for getting outed like these producers, I mean reviewers. That's what is going on with these two reviews.

Frankenfake tells nothing but true documentation of facts based on evidence that the documentarians provided. And the end of the film stated that they reached out to the producers of Face Off and cast members to respond, but they never wanted to appear on camera except run away. I guess they don't like being on the other side of the camera.

Bravo to Frankenfake for sending this message about reality television and their practices.

Truly shocking what was done to Joe Castro
ldemaioky7 April 2019
I had long suspected that the judges had their "pets" for the show and that the editing was showing some in a bad light. But I never could have imagined the lengths the corrupt staff and judges would go to to ruin a wonderful artist like Joe Castor! I certainly hope he won his lawsuit against them. I only wish they could be publicly shamed i.e. on news shows or social networks. Absolutely disgraceful.

For all fans of reality TV that want TRUTH
russianhacker127 June 2015
Wow, this is mindblowing.

I have been an avid consumer of reality TV since the 90's and seeing secrets exposed through a documentary like this is quite astounding! I feel like I'm out of the matrix and seeing the ugly truth.

Given this is one side of an argument, but isn't all media coloured by someone's perspective?

This IS uncomfortable to watch. This IS one man's view of his own experience. You may agree or disagree with the views in this documentary.

It seems suspicious to me that previous reviewers are so VEHEMENTLY critical of this - do they not want you to hear this man's point of view?

If you like living in the matrix and viewing reality TV as a beautiful and fair competition then DO NOT watch this documentary; but if you want one contestant's unique perspective (albeit negative) then take the red pill and DO watch this!
