Unfair Ending. After Seven Seasons the Show Deserved Better
jayraskin124 December 2014
After the 12 episodes for season 7 had been filmed, Showtime canceled the series. Therefore, the cast and crew did not know that this was going to be the last episode. Thus, there are numerous subplots that are left hanging. If Showtime had any class, they would have asked for a one hour or 90 minute final episode to allow the filmmakers to finish the stories.

Unlike most people who disliked the seventh season, I thought it was quite good. It was much lighter than any season since the first one. There wasn't any outrageous sex scenes far less emphasis on drugs, and there were a lot of new and interesting characters and relationships started.

Among my dislikes of the final season were the Levon character (why make him so stupid and Rebecca so bright?) and Stew's million dollar indecent proposal. Marcy was sometimes sweet, but I couldn't imagine anybody paying a million dollars to sleep with her, especially after they had been married for a couple of years. Heather Graham was a mixed bag. I love her and she did fine work, but almost all the other actresses before her did full nudity and swore like porn stars. She felt out of place in the series. The one thing that I thought really worked was Santa Monica Cop show. It was very satirical and very "30 Rock" style funny.

The last episode has Hank refusing to have sex twice, which probably indicates that he has at last grown up. He also writes a beautiful poem to Karen saying he'll never give up on their relationship. This re-emphasizes what he had been pretty much been saying for seven seasons.

Other than this, it seemed pretty much like an average episode, just a little bit lighter than most.

I am very sad that I won't be seeing any more of Hank Moody,Karen and Becka. Charlie, Marcy and Stu while funny in small doses, had long ago turned annoying so I won't really miss them. I'm also sorry that I won't be seeing Rick Rath, Eddie Nero, and Sue Collini again. Most of all I'll miss Mia, and the 30 other beautiful and dreamy-sexy women that Hank had affairs with during the course of the series. I would love to meet any of them and Jackie. I would even make an indecent million dollar proposal to, if I had a million dollars.

Great series with an okay season and OK ending!

Warning: Spoilers
This season wasn't maybe the best one. But I actually enjoyed it, maybe because I saved all the episodes so I could watch them at once. I think i'm probably one of the few people who liked this season, I get that the new family aspect is not something everyone was fond of but still. Levon was a funny character, maybe a dumb character but still funny at times. And also Julia was great, maybe a little to naive but she was really good. The ending was okaaay at the most, it wasn't bad or good. I liked that they showed how Hank choose Karen but I really think they should've made like 1 more episode or at least had this episode be like 40-60 minutes. It felt kinda rushed, like they were eager to get to the end. I really liked Hanks poem to Karen, it was really nice. And the last 3 minutes of the show was pretty cool, showing most of the characters future(a little bit lame, but still). All in all Californication was a great series! It had it's ups and downs but it's still a great show! If I had to give the whole series a rating it would be a 9 out of 10. I just love Hank Moody, some seasons were stronger than others but Californication is a must watch TV- show!

life without Californication
RavenGlamDVDCollector28 January 2017
I watched on DVD. The medium. The symbol of my summer Saturdays these past years. Now it is over. I had withdrawal symptoms for BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and for FRIENDS.

There is nothing to replace it. Nothing. There is absolutely nothing that can live up to CALIFORNICATION. If there is, please leave me a message, it will be welcomed. But nothing of that caliber exists. Nothing. Not in the genre of comedy and mature content in a heady mix with gorgeous actresses and likable lead character.

Gonna miss you, Jack. Karen. Charlie. Marcie. Julia. And Stu.

Being DVD, I have it on hand. But still...

THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SEASON 8!!!

Just like BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, there should have been a Season 8!

A fond farewell, you guys were pals. Thank you Tom Kapinos, David Duchovny, Natascha McElhone, Evan Handler, Pamela Adlon, newcomer (and old flame) Heather Graham...

GONNA MISS YA EVERY Saturday FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!

Showtime, how could you?????????????

Goodbye, Californication...

Warning: Spoilers
I felt very melancholic about watching the last episode. Over the last years the show has given me so much enjoyment. So many laughs, tears and things to think about. But now that the ride is finally over, what did I think?

I thought this was a pretty beautiful way to end the series. After getting himself into sex-related trouble for so many years, we see a much more mature Hank here. He no longer lets himself get mindlessly seduced, and there's a moment in this episode where you think he's gonna give in, but he shows restraint and says no.

The whole mess with Charlie and Marcy and the million dollar sex proposition also gets a resolution that I think everyone is happy about. Just like Hank and Karen they've had a lot of disputes over the years, and if Marcy really gave in to sleeping with Stu it would probably ruin their marriage. Stephen Toblowsky is hilarious as the pathetically desperate Stu. It's especially funny how for some reason he thought if she showed Marcy how he screws his Marcy-looking sex doll it would convince her to go with the offer, completely unaware of how disturbing his behavior is. Charlie has a great comeuppance when he not only hits Stu after he tries to rape her, but he forces him to let them keep the one million dollars. His line "I will make you eat all my balls" as he's threatening Stu is so dumb, but so great.

Levon has been an entertaining, but a frustrating character. Oliver Cooper plays him to great effect, but man, the cringy things he says and does sometimes can be tough to endure. Thankfully, even though he's still acting awkward, we're shown there's still hope for guys like him as well. Instead of horning for another prostitute he's talking to a normal girl, attempting a relationship instead of just thinking about sex. It's a great way to show how Hank tries to teach his son his new wised-up attitude.

Finally, Hank promises Julia he will meet her but sets her up with Rick Rath instead while he boards a plane and makes a grand gesture to win Karen's heart. The poem that he read outloud to her was very sweet. We didn't see much of Hank the writer in the last two seasons, so it was nice that the last thing we got to see him write was something meaningful. Karen also gets over the initial embarrassment and feels very touched that he would do something like this for her. Him holding her hand and she later giving him a kiss showed that there's still hope for the two of them. As long as Hank's efforts to change are genuine, things might turn out well after all.

The only thing I didn't buy was Julia falling for Rick Rath. Michael Imperioli is a fantastic actor and Rick Rath a great character, but it just felt off to me. They haven't had enough chemistry to warrant that kind of ending.

The song Rocket Man playing over the final montage with Hank, Karen and Becca's happy memories over the years was a very nice touch. It was also used during the ending of my favorite episode Mia Culpa.

Peace out. ... motherfu'ckaaaaaa.

Well for first, Will miss this show, alot. Like a lot!

Second,I know David Duchovny is a good director. He directed many episodes of x files and Californication. He goes for that subtle plot change in his episode which is usually a small one but creates a big impact in viewers mind, He should ve directed this shows ending.

Remember how Californication got started? episode 1 ,2 ,3 were all outstanding, they all had a last moment twist. This show deserved a lot better Didn't quite felt like an ending..

Nonetheless, Its been an amazing ride,Hank .Thank you for lessons, women and music Cheers madaafaaa....

How it should have ended!

Hank starts the episode with writing his love letter for Karen. He is moody, he was drinking, he is stinking.

They all go to the church to marry his daughter. Of course Becca marries in the church where it all started in episode 1 season 1. So what happens: -Hank isn't able to get anywhere near Karen to give his love letter. -Hank has sex with Julia sometime in the episode, while Julia found a nurse costume (aka Julia was the one all along, Karen wasn't --> CASE CLOSED). -Hank's last try to get to sit next to Karen in the church gets broken off by Levon who pulls his father next to Julia. -Hank gets in a little disagreement with the groom.

-Marcy pretended to have had her adventure with Stew. Charlie believes it. In a nice moment of the wedding of Becca, Marcy confesses to Charlie that she didn't. Charlie starts to cry and starts to bless Marcy's privates in the middle of the ceremony.

-Becca gets married.

-Hank drives off in the sunset with Julia and crazy kid Levon's and one of his prostitutes.

The end. There is sex, controversy, he is moody, he is wanted, he messes up with Karen, Marcy and Charlie are crazy, Becca feels left out again.

I don't know what happened, but this season just messed up and should have never been here in the first place.

Warning: Spoilers
Californication was one of my favorite shows and of course Hank was a model for me :)but this last season and especially this last episode was awful and this are some of the reasons : - Karen rejects Hank and want to change him in something that he is not while Julia want him but sure like many times in this series Hank would give his life for Karen - Personally i wish he would stayed with Faith in 6 season. - Better not watch this season to remain in mind with the true Hank Moody - This season is ending without saying the whole story i mean we will never know what is happening at Becca's wedding or with Karen and Hank or Marcy and Charlie or Levon or Julia. - Stu story was really bad i mean a blow doll , a men with a lot of money can't get over a break up - Hank is looking for a job this season but he just abandoned his expensive car - And Julia and Rust !? Julia was just too hot for him. Even so i would have liked a new season because Hank Moody is my second favorite character after Charlie Harper.
