This article contains spoilers for the entire Knuckles live-action TV-series.
Knuckles the Echidna. He’s rougher than the rest of them, the best of them, tougher than leather, as his famous theme song boasts. Introduced all the way back in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on Sega Genesis as the titular hero’s nemesis, the spike fisted loner has gone on to become a key part of the franchise’s cast. Reinterpreted over the years as everything from a rapping treasure hunter in Sonic Adventure to a chosen-one savior that, as a baby egg, was nuked by radiation in the Archie comic series.
The Sonic movies haven’t been shy about drawing direct inspiration from past incarnations of the franchise to help inspire their stories so where does the Knuckles series take its main inspiration from? The Genesis games with their lightning quick action? The much-beloved Sonic Adventure series and its focus on Knuckles’ treasure hunting?...

If you understood any of the above words, chances are you remember the turn of the millennium with fondness, as well as a degree of cringe. But if you don’t know these ancient relics, you probably still recognize the youthful and eagerly game faces that director Kyle Mooney has cast in his directorial debut, Y2K. Either way, the former SNL alumni has bet heavily on cultivating retro good vibes for his house party of a horror-comedy, and after watching the film at its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival this weekend, it’s safe to say the thing rages, even if with all the grace and style of a suburbanite scrub.

Anytime a new Sonic the Hedgehog project gets announced, fans clamor to discuss what it should be influenced by. The classic Genesis games for their iconic look? The Dreamcast Sonic Adventure series for the story? Sonic’s various appearances in animation also get brought up, whether it is the wacky slapstick of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the cult classic Sonic the Hedgehog (aka SatAM), the Sonic X anime, and more.

For the most devoted fans of “Sonic the Hedgehog,” the new blockbuster film coming this weekend will have the bonus of seeing — or rather hearing — Colleen O’Shaughnessey make her big-screen debut as Miles “Tails” Prower after playing the flying fox for eight years.
“It’s just unbelievable and joyous and beautiful and amazing,” O’Shaughnessey told TheWrap. “All the excitement and love I’ve received from the fans has been so gratifying, with all these tweets telling me they were hoping that I would get to play Tails in this film. They’ve had my back and have been so supportive since the beginning.”
O’Shaughnessey joined the “Sonic” series in 2010 playing the hyperactive bee Charmy, but took over playing Tails in 2014 with the release of the spinoff video game and animated series “Sonic Boom.” Since then, she’s played the iconic Sega character in seven “Sonic” games, and in...

Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a new series, Sonic Prime, set to debut on Netflix in 2022! It’s very exciting news for fans of Sega’s most popular character but buried in the press release is a detail that might make this the most way past cool Sonic series of all time. From the press release synopsis of the story,
“The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.“

A new Sonic the Hedgehog TV series is apparently on its way to Netflix. Sega’s superstar rodent is enjoying a major resurgence in popularity right now thanks to the success of Paramount’s live-action movie, starring Ben Schwartz as the voice of the hedgehog and James Marsden as his human pal, which arrived earlier this year. And along with a sequel being in the works, Sonic is about to feature in his own CG-animated series, too. Though we’re not sure we’re meant to know that just yet.
This morning, official Netflix account @NXOnNetflix shared the news and here’s how their announcement read: “Rings? Check. Sneakers? Check. Speed? Sonic. Sega’s legendary video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog races onto Netflix in a new 3D animated series from @Sega, @WildBrainHQ and @ManOfActionEnt premiering in 2022.”

Rob Liefeld, a comic book artist best known for creating the character of Deadpool, doesn’t understand why the Merc with a Mouth hasn’t gotten his own cartoon yet. He has a point, too, considering that Deadpool is one of the most original, entertaining and beloved heroes ever invented. Thanks to the movies starring Ryan Reynolds, he’s also more popular than he ever was before. Not to mention that Wade Wilson has proven to do well in other forms of media, too.
In 2013, Activision published a video game based on the character and his mythos on the previous generation of consoles. Hailed by many as the penultimate representation of Deadpool – superior even to Reynolds’ own performance – it set a standard for meta, self-referential storytelling that not only inspired the films, but also provides a template for a potential cartoon.
Self-aware cartoons are in higher demand than they ever were before.

Writing songs about polarizing issues can be a fool’s errand. Writers run the risk of coming across as pretentious or, even worse, trite. But that didn’t stop Los Angeles band Dustbowl Revival from addressing some weighty topics on their new album Is It You, Is It Me, out this Friday. The Americana group sings about the blight of mass shootings in the U.S.; the inherent manipulation of social media; and the disconcerting idea that those within our own families or friend circles may have helped vote Trump into office.

Even though he originally debuted as the world’s fastest hedgehog on the Sega Genesis, Sonic has since made his mark outside of video games. Following his 1991 self-titled outing, the blue blur ventured into comic books, animation and he’s set to make his Hollywood debut in just a few months’ time.
While the February 2020 film will be sure to make waves (in one way or another), Sonic has been noticeably absent from the small screen for some time. After all, over two years have gone by since Sonic Boom went off the air, and despite its positive reception from fans and critics alike, there’s been no news as to whether or not a new series is in development.
However, it looks like Sega – or rather, their director of animation – thinks that it’s time for another Sonic show. Speaking to ComicBook.com earlier this year, Yukio Kusumoto shed...

The spotlight shines on far more than the core trio of iconic stars of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. Sega's concentrating on PC and mobile games, but Sonic Team's boss suggests that Sonic's days on consoles aren't over yet...
Neither Sega nor its hyperactive mascot have had an easy time over the past few months. The once might company announced a fairly drastic restructure in January, which will see its base of operations move and a considerable percentage of its staff in the Us reduced.
Sonic the Hedgehog, meanwhile, suffered a damaging blow with Sonic Boom - an outing greeted by dismal reviews and slow sales. With Sega announcing its intention to step away from console development and concentrate on mobile and PC games, the news didn't seem good for the blue blur.

Sega has pulled out all the stops for the new entries in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Not only are there two new games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3Ds, Sonic fans have been treated to a new animated cartoon on Cartoon Network and a new title from Archie Comics, for a total of four if you count the magazine-sized Sonic Super Special. Not bad for a game series that over two decades long.
So you can’t expect me to review just one of them, can you?
