Amanda Rollins says that music teacher and vocal coach Jackie Walker has worked on Broadway and off, mostly off. In reality, the actor who plays Jackie Walker, Billy Porter, is actually a huge Broadway star and fashion icon, most notably originating the role of Lola in the smash hit Kinky Boots.
After the suspect's first interrogation, the detectives discuss the likelihood of his guilt and Fin states, "everyone liked Elmo too." When the suspect is taken to trial, the judge presiding is played by Sonia Manzano, also a Sesame Street (1969) regular.
When first discussing Jackie being guilty or not, based on people liking him, Finn states "everyone liked Elmo too". He is referring to Kevin Clash, the puppeteer for Elmo on Sesame Street (1969), being accused in 2012 of having a sexual relationship with two men when they were underage. One of the men worked with Mr. Clash on the show and told the show's producers in 2012 that Mr. Clash had been inappropriate with him when he was 16. The studio investigated the claim and found it to be unsubstantiated, and the claim was recanted a short time later. Then not too long after another man claimed to have had a sexual relationship with Mr. Clash when he was a teenager, there was no proof of this claim either, but it forced Mr. Clash, who has always denied the allegations, to resign from the show. There was an attempt to sue Mr. Clash in civil court after the second person can forward, but the court dismissed the case because "the claims were made more than six years after each man reasonably should have become aware of Clash's alleged violations during the three years after each turned 18." Basically they waited too long after the alleged incidents to bring civil charges. The attorney's for the defendants appealed the Pennsylvania courts ruling, but in April of 2014 the US Court of Appeals upheld the ruling of the lower court that the statute of limitations on the civil lawsuit had expired.
David Pittu plays the lawyer for Jackie Walker (played by Billy Porter). David Pittu has enjoyed a lengthy career on Broadway as well.
Fin makes a reference to Elmo. Bill Irwin, who plays Dr. Lindstrom in this episode, also played Mr Noodle on Sesame Street (1969).
