Best Song Oscar 2016 contender 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. 74 entries in contention for 2016 Best Song Academy Award 'Tis the season for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to announce the semi-finalists – in some instances, the semi-semi-finalists – for the Academy Awards. Today, the Academy released the list of songs eligible for the 2016 Best Song – or rather, Best Original Song – Oscar. There are 74 contenders, with titles ranging from “Happy” and “I'll See You in My Dreams” to “Hypnosis” and “Bhoomiyilenghanumundo.” Curiously, apart from the inevitable animated and/or kiddie flicks (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Anomalisa, Pan, Shaun the Sheep Movie, Home, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water, etc.) most of this year's contenders are songs from smaller movies and Bollywood/South Asian releases. Exceptions include Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey, Ryan Coogler's Creed, Kenneth Branagh's...

Where have you been, Katherine Heigl?! The actress, who has remained mostly under the radar in recent years, looked insanely gorgeous when she stepped out to attend a screening of Saved in America in Agoura Hills, CA, on Saturday. Katherine showed support for the documentary, whose proceeds go to helping animals in need, by posing for photos with an adorable pooch on the red carpet. Katherine, whose latest show, State of Affairs, was canceled by NBC earlier this year, stunned in a black tank top, faux leopard-print heels, and short shorts. She also put her gorgeous wedding ring from husband Josh Kelley on display. Keep reading to see more of Katherine's fun outing, then check out the trailer for her latest movie, Jenny's Wedding, which hit theaters on July 31.

You might never have thought to pair TV veterans Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel as big-screen love interests, and you're not alone: In the new movie Jenny's Wedding (out today), Heigl's family has no idea she's even a lesbian, even though she's been living with Bledel for years. Even though Heigl senses that it's time to come out to her family and come clean about the girlfriend she now wants to marry, to judge from this exclusive clip, it's not going to be easy. Watch as she breaks the news to her mom (Linda Emond), who takes the truth bomb tearfully and, instead of offering support, has only a painful accusation.

In February 2014, writer-director Mary Agnes Donoghue ("Beaches") and producers Michelle Manning and Gail Levin launched a campaign on Indiegogo to raise post-production finishing funds for indie romantic comedy "Jenny's Wedding," starring Katherine Heigl, Grace Gummer and Alexis Bledel. The movie will debut at Outfest on July 10 and will open via IFC Films On Demand and in theaters on July 31. "Jennifer's Wedding," which wrapped production in Cleveland, Ohio in November 2013, is about what happens when Jenny (Heigl), the daughter of a close-knit family, finally decides to marry. Her old-fashioned parents (Tom Wilkinson and Linda Emond) want her to settle down, but react badly when she announces that she is going to marry a woman. While the producers successfully financed the film via Merced Media Partners and PalmStar Media Capital (executive producers are PalmStar’s...

The Supreme Court just legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, and that's good news for the protagonists of "Jenny's Wedding," in which Katherine Heigl's titular character wants to marry her roommate -- and secret girlfriend -- Kitty (Alexis Bledel).
Unfortunately for audiences, though, this is one celebration that doesn't seem worth attending, thanks in large part to Jenny's awful family. They harp on her because she's unmarried (her mother, played by Linda Emond, actually utters the phrase "the clock is ticking" because Jenny doesn't have a family yet), and when she says she's in a relationship, they immediately ask when the wedding is. Um, how about we slow our roll, family?
But no, they insist, pressuring Jenny into eventually spilling the beans that Kitty is more than just a roommate, and come to think of it, they do want to get married. Cue horrible homophobia from everyone around Jenny, who...

Last week, #lovewins was the hashtag heard around the world when the Supreme Court ruled gay marriage was a Constitutional right. And the timing couldn't be better for "Jenny's Wedding," which takes on the topic head on and a new trailer has landed for the film. Written and directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue (who also penned "Beaches," "White Oleander," and "Veronica Guerin"), and starring Katherine Heigl, Alexis Bledel, Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond, and Grace Gummer, the story follows Jenny, who comes out of the closet to her family and announces that she will be marrying her partner Kitty, and must deal with consequences of disappointment and surprises that follow. The dramedy doesn't feel particularly groundbreaking in a narrative sense, but the emotions ring true, and the cast looks pretty solid all around. A simple story, well told and with a bit of heart looks to be goal and "Jenny's Wedding" aims to hit it.

You can now add Katherine Heigl to the list of celebrities turning to crowdfunding to raise money for their projects, but first note that this situation is a bit different than Zach Braff and Spike Lee going on Kickstarter to finance their projects. For one, Katherine Heigl is the star of the film, not a writer-director-producer, so she's not really the one raising the money here (although she's tweeted about the project and is doing her part to help). Secondly, the film, "Jenny's Wedding" has already been shot -- unlike Braff and Lee who were looking for funds to make their projects. In this case, the producers are looking to raise $150,000 in post-production funds on IndieGogo (which also means that, unlike on Kickstarter, they can keep any money raised even if they don't meet their goal). The film stars Heigl as Jenny Farrell, a gay woman who wants to marry the woman she loves.
