Film4’s annual budget has dropped from £25 million to £22.5 Million for 2024.
The Poor Things backer confirmed the reduction with us, adding that the figure was “in line with recent years.”
“Film4 is the largest Psb funder of independent film in the UK. Our budget is set annually, in line with Channel 4’s financials, to ensure we can best deliver sustainable, long-term support to the industry,” a spokesperson said.
“We have recently had some of our most prolific and successful years, and we are committed to maintaining a similar level of support in the future, backing around 10-12 films per year, maintaining our cultural impact and continuing to champion the most distinctive and innovative filmmaking talent.”
Film4’s reduced budget is still higher than BBC Film, which has remained at around £11M (including overhead) for the best part of a decade, and the BFI Filmmaking Fund, which sits at around £18m a year.

In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.

Exclusive: Channel 4 has axed documentary series Rescue: Extreme Medics after two seasons.
A Channel 4 spokesman said the decision is unrelated to Channel 4’s much-publicized current financial woes but was instead taken due to ratings and the desire to open up space in the schedules.
Running for two seasons, Rescue from Firecrest Films followed elite clinicians saving lives across the whole of Scotland, sometimes in extremely challenging situations. Episodes in the latest series, which ended last week, included a rally driver crash on the Isle of Mull and an air ambulance having to attend a high-speed road collision. The latest series was watched by an average of around 600,000 overnight viewers per episode and ended with a series high of just shy of 1M, according to Barb data from overnights.tv.
Reports swirled over the weekend about the latest set of Channel 4 cancellations, with Rescue rumored to be culled alongside established hit Naked Attraction.

Frankie Boyle tore into Matt Hancock and Keir Starmer during an appearance on The Last Leg.
The Scottish comedian joined Adam Hills,Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker to talk about the week’s events, which included the leaking of former health secretary Hancock’s private WhatsApp messages sent during the pandemic.
Hancock criticised journalist Isabel Oakeshott, who provided the messages after ghostwriting his book Pandemic Diaries. He called the action a “massive betrayal of trust”.
The messages have prompted yet another backlash against Hancock, with Boyle saying on Friday (3 March): “Even his hairline is trying to disown him.”
He called out Hancock’s decision to appear on ITV series I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, saying that he chose to lie in the ground “surrounded by worms” to try and make the country forget he had “killed their granny”.
Boyle was referring to Hancock’s response...

Pete Doherty made a rare TV appearance on Channel 4 comedy talk show The Last Leg on Friday night (24 February).
The Libertines frontman, 43, performed The Pogues’ 1985 classic “Dirty Old Town”, changing the one of the lyrics to “brudne stare misto”, which is Ukrainian for “dirty old town”.
At the end of the song, he smiled and shouted “slava Ukraini!”, meaning “glory to Ukraine”.
Friday was the one-year anniversary of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The number of Ukrainian civilians killed in the war with Russia could be as high as 100,000, with both sides suffering tens of thousands of military casualties.
Millions of Ukrainians have either been displaced or left homeless 12 months on since Russian tanks rolled across the border.
During Doherty’s appearance on the show, he also told an anecdote about hosting two Russian artists at his London home.
“When they were in London I put them up,” he said.

David Tennant issued a passionate defence of strikes during an appearance on The Last Leg this week.
The Scottish Doctor Who star also took aim at the Conservative government, describing the UK’s ruling party as “f***wits”.
Partway through Friday’s (3 February) episode of the Channel 4 comedy series, Tennant was asked whether he supported the strikes that have been carried out across various industries, including rail and NHS workers.
“Of course,” Tennant responded. “It’s just the sense that... after everything that’s gone on, through the pandemic, that nurses are having to go on strike to be paid what they’re worth... It makes you want to spit, doesn’t it?”
He then went on to criticise the Tory government’s handling of the strikes, with discussion turning to Rishi Sunak’s 100-days-in-office milestone.

The Royal Television Society Program Awards 2022 started with a slap on Wednesday evening, when nominee Aj Odudu ran up to the stage and pretended to strike host Tom Allen.
“Oh my God, Aj, oh my God – I’m the one who’s lost their hair, don’t hit me,” Allen, who is bald, quipped in the evidently pre-rehearsed skit. “I never put my wife anywhere near your mouth.”
Continuing the reference to the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock, which took place at the Oscars on Sunday night, Allen continued: “I’ve got to look my best for tomorrow, I’ve got an audition for ‘G.I. Jane 2.'”
Watching from the audience at the Jw Marriott Grosvenor House in Mayfair, where the awards were taking place, were a bevy of well-known faces including “The Batman” star Andy Serkis, “Supergirl’s” David Harewood and “Succession” actor Matthew Macfadyen. Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer Ian Katz has used his spotlight session at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival to warn that privatization would “destroy” the channel.
Katz made no bones about the potential changes to Channel 4 both on and off air: “It would be a very different beast to the Channel 4 we know now. Much that is so special and treasured would very likely be lost. Some people say that’s not true because you can just write licence requirements that would protect everything about the channel that we value, but that misses the fundamental change you get when you move from a channel that is purpose driven to one that is profit-driven….I think what is special about the channel would be destroyed.”

Channel 4 bosses on Tuesday came out swinging against a U.K. government bid to privatize the “Greate British Bake Off” broadcaster.
The cloud of privatization — which would significantly alter the remit of Channel 4, a publicly owned not-for-profit corporation — has been hanging over the org in recent years, and was put in sharp relief Tuesday, despite the broadcaster unveiling record audiences and revenues in its annual report for 2020.
Speaking to a U.K. House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee, Channel 4 chief executive Alex Mahon addressed the threat facing the broadcaster, especially as committee member John Nicolson announced with some certainty that U.K. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden would announce a consultation into privatization as early as Wednesday.
“What we need from this consultation, should it occur, is certainty that the right questions are being asked about the future of public service broadcasting in Britain,” declared Mahon. “We...

The BBC’s radical overhaul of its content team is starting to shape up as it has named Syeda Irtizaali and Jo Smith as the new portfolio editors of television channels BBC One, BBC Two, and BBC Four.
Under the restructure announced last December, the BBC is scrapping TV channel controller roles for the first time in decades. Instead, portfolio editors will be appointed to curate shows commissioned largely for iPlayer by genre heads with supercharged powers.
Stepping into one of these new roles is Irtizaali, who will oversee BBC One, the corporation’s biggest and most important TV channel. She joined the BBC as an entertainment commissioner in February 2020 after a decade at Channel 4.
Since joining the BBC, Irtizaali has overseen shows including Top Gear, MasterChef, and Fulwell 73’s Peter Crouch Save Our Summer. During her time at Channel 4, she commissioned hits including The Last Leg and The Million Pound Drop.

Almost four months after the BBC reformed its television division, the corporation has appointed the two leads for its most prominent channels.
Syeda Irtizaali and Jo Smith have been tapped as the two new Portfolio Editors working across BBC One and BBC Two and Four. Irtizaali will take on BBC One, while Smith will manage BBC Two and Four. They will start their new roles on April 12.
Chief content officer Charlotte Moore introduced the new structure for BBC Television in December — a revamp that restructured the Beeb’s television division accordingly around a new iPlayer-focused strategy, coupled with plans to scrap channel controller positions and empower the broadcaster’s genre chiefs.
Both Irtizaali and Smith will report directly to Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer and channels, who will bring together all of the programming and curation activity across iPlayer and the channels.

BAFTA is today staging the industry’s biggest TV awards since the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe, with Submarine director Richard Ayoade hosting a 90-minute virtual ceremony from a studio, as winners stay at home.
The event, which is being broadcast on BBC One from 7Pm local time (11Am Pt), will feature guests including Normal People stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal handing out prizes, while red carpet arrivals were replaced by a pre-show on BAFTA’s social channels.
Sky/HBO drama Chernobyl is on course to dominate the night after scooping a record-equalling haul of 14 nominations, and winning seven prizes at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards earlier this month. An open letter calling for the immediate release of Egyptian film producer Moataz Abdelwahab was published Friday, cosigned by the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk (Icfr) and its founding institutions, which include the European Film Academy, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Human Rights Film Network, among others.
The letter claims that Abdelwahab disappeared from his Cairo office on May 5 and wasn’t seen again until May 11, when he presented at a hearing in front of the Supreme Court for State Security, where he was accused of “partnering with a terrorist organization” and “spreading false news.”
According to Icfr, the accusations followed his involvement on several cultural documentaries purchased by and aired on Al Jazeera’s documentary channel. Last year, he produced Tamer Ezzat’s drama feature “When We’re Born,” which screened at El Gouna International Film Festival and Les Journées Cinématographique de Cartage.

Wow! The Last Leg presenter Adam Hills got into the spirit of Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer telethon by shaving his head.
Viewers were asked to vote on how they would like the show to finish, either with diehard Arsenal fan Alex Brooker wearing a Spurs football shirt, Greg Davies weightlifting Josh Widdicombe or Hills shaving his head.
Looking good @adamhillscomedy! #su2c #standuptocancer pic.twitter.com/PpDV5ZQmdP
— The Last Leg (@TheLastLeg) October 9, 2015
The poll was announced at the end of the show as 11% for the Spurs shirt, 23% for Greg's weightlifting and an overwhelming 66% voted in favour of Hills going bald.
Quick to pick up the clippers were Brooker and guest Russell Howard, who didn't take long to shear Hills of his thick head of hair.
The impact seemed to dawn on the comedian, who shrieked: "What have I done? What have I done?!"
Thanks for watching...

Josh Widdicombe's BBC sitcom pilot proved funny enough to be granted a full series.
The popular stand-up comic will lead the cast of Josh, following a successful Comedy Feed pilot online in 2014. The six-part series will air on BBC Three in November.
Co-written by Widdicombe and Tom Craine, it will be directed by frequent Steve Coogan collaborator David Schneider, and also stars Beattie Edmondson, Ellis James and Jack Dee.
Centred around grumpy and single Josh and his two flatmates Kate and Owen, his life is plagued with crappy situations such as a rubbish pool party and being played by his high school crush.
Jack Dee plays their bizarre landlord who inserts himself into their lives as much as possible, whether they want him there or not.
There will also be a host of celebrity cameos throughout the series, including Jennifer Saunders, Romesh Ranganathan, James Acaster and... The Chuckle Brothers!

Alex Brooker has hit out at Twitter for failing to protect its users after he was called a "cripple" on the site.
Speaking to Digital Spy to promote Scope's End The Awkward campaign, Brooker suggested that the social network needs to start tackling abuse more strongly.
"I do believe that the people who run Twitter really need to get a hold of it soon and start really enforcing some rules on it, because at the moment you can just say anything to anyone," he said.
"I had a guy call me a 'cripple' after I was on A League of Their Own. I reported that to Twitter and they said it wasn't against their rules. And then they said, 'If you disagree with this, please give further evidence'. I basically explained to them who I was, what I did - bearing in mind that I'm a verified account as well...
