- April's visiting sisters get on her nerves; when Matthew and Jackson witness an accident, they must work together; Callie and Arizona work on their relationship.
- Derek and Callie are ready to try their brain mapping project again while Meredith and Stephanie prepare to put a portal vein into a sheep. Cristina, meanwhile, has just finished having sex with Shane. She's impressed with his skills.
Callie and Arizona are trying to be civil to each other, and Callie is trying to be civil to Leah, who is "dying" in their presence at the hospital. There's competition over which procedure is going to be more interesting to watch: Shane and Cristina's 3-D printed graft for their infant patient's heart or Meredith and Stephanie's portal vein in the sheep. The heart is winning. Hunt asks Meredith if she's going to watch Cristina's surgery, forgetting that she's putting her portal vein into a sheep.
Webber gets a round of applause as he leaves the hospital to go home. He thanks Bailey on the way out for getting him better. Bailey seems to have a therapist following her around due to her apparent OCD.
April's three sisters are in town and they're out having brunch when Jackson walks by. Matthew is annoyed when one of the sisters notes that he's "the Jackson," and the girls all get up to leave. Jackson and Matthew are left behind at the cafe.
Alex's dad is back at the hospital, apparently struggling and Jo tells him he can't get clean at the hospital. He has some kind of seizure and falls unconscious.
Jackson and Matthew walk out of the cafe and watch a hurried businessman-type jump into a cab that another, "hippie"-looking guy had flagged down. The hippie's tie is caught in the car door and the businessman tells the cabbie to drive away, dragging the hippie alongside the car.
Jackson and Matthew tend to the hippie guy, who is not breathing, while a crowd gathers around them. The businessman comes back and says it was an accident. While Jackson turns to move the guy out of the way, Matthew takes a straw, cuts a hole in the unconscious guy's throat and uses the straw to make an airway. He's breathing again.
The parents of the baby Cristina is going to operate on are getting cold feet about cameras that will be feeding a live stream of the surgery online. Cristina walks in and seems surprised to hear about the cameras but assures the parents that nothing is more important to her than their baby. Outside the room, Hunt tells Cristina that Shane suggested it. She reluctantly agrees.
Derek and Callie's brain mapping subject is having trouble controlling the robotic fingers she's supposed to be controlling by concentrating.
Alex's dad refuses methadone, saying he has to get totally clean. Hunt tells Jo to watch him, but she suggests sending him to a rehab facility. She tells Hunt that the man is Alex's dad, but Hunt doesn't budge. He tells Jo to watch him.
Bailey comes over and asks Hunt to clear her for surgery, but the psychiatrist refuses to clear her. Bailey asks the psychiatrist what hoop she needs to jump through to be cleared.
April brings her sisters to the hospital and she gets annoyed as one of her sisters makes a comment about Arizona's missing leg.
Jackson and Matthew bring their accident victim into the ER and Jackson isn't pleased about Matthew's incision with his "Boy Scout knife," saying he's going to need to fix the horizontal incision. Matthew says he had to do it that way and Jackson will see why. April helps with the patient and asks Matthew to leave and take his sisters.
Jo tells Alex that is dad is at the hospital going through withdrawal. Alex goes to kick Jimmy out of the hospital and freezes when Jimmy says, "Hey, son. How you doing?"
Jimmy tells Alex that he's been trying to "get right" since Alex stood over him at the bar, just like he did when he was 15. Alex walks out.
Derek and Callie wonder what they're doing wrong with their patient.
The psychiatrist challenges Bailey to do five sutures without engaging in any OCD behavior. Bailey says, "Game on." The psychiatrist messes up all of Bailey's tools and this seems to bother Bailey, but she doesn't react right away.
In surgery, Jackson calls April "Ducky," which is what her sisters call her. She doesn't like it. It's short for "ugly duckling" because she grew up with braces and such, and they still see her that way despite the fact that she's a trauma surgeon. Jackson admits to her that Matthew did the right thing with is incision.
Meredith and Stephanie set up their own video camera in an O.R. by themselves as they put the portal vein into the sheep. Stephanie keeps saying Meredith is "changing the face of medicine." Meanwhile, Cristina has large crowd around her and a videographer shooting for the live stream as the online audience is growing. Mereidth's portal vein seems to be working while Cristina's 3D-printed conduit seems to be smaller than expected and not fitting quite right. Meredith talks into her camera explaining her experiment's success, while Stephanie celebrates in the background. Meredith doesn't know that in another O.R., Cristina's heart graft is failing and the baby's vitals are dropping. She asks for the cameras to be cut.
Cristina has to answer to the baby's parents, who are frustrated with the process. The baby is on an oscillator and she says they have to wait. Alex doesn't seem too confident.
Jimmy seems to be hallucinating a moment in which he got angry with Alex for breaking something as a child. Jo tries to talk him through his hallucination. She ups his meds to stop it.
Meredith asks Shane how it's going while they're in the elevator together and he glumly tells her not to be smug, saying, "You won, we lost; I get it." Meredith tells him he can't talk to her that way, but he walks away.
April's sisters show up with flowers and Arizona has to explain to them that April might be late because a trauma came in and April is busy saving someone's life.
Bailey has two sutures done and three to go, but she can't get through them without crying a bit and getting shaky. The psychiatrist suggests to Bailey that she should take medication to keep the OCD under control, but Bailey doesn't go for it. The psychiatrist steps out to use the restroom, but takes a picture of the trays for reference. While she's gone, Webber seems to walk in, saying he was bored at home, and appears to rearrange Bailey's tools.
Derek and Callie's brain mapping subject, Becca, still can't get the robotic hand to move. She yells at her husband John a lot. John leaves and Becca starts to cry, saying she snaps at him because he does everything for her and she agreed to the experiment because she wanted to be able to do one thing for him and she can't even do it. She asks for the sensors to be taken out of her head. Callie says they should schedule the surgery to take them out but Derek asks Callie to step outside to discuss.
The sheep is flatlining when Stephanie walks in. Stephanie tries in vain to save it, but it's dead.
Stephanie is crying over the sheep, but Meredith says they'll keep trying and failing "because that's what progress looks like."
Derek and Callie argue about Becca and Callie says she's tired of fighting with Arizona, tired of fighting with Becca, and now she's fighting with Derek. Derek grabs a bottle of water, then says they need to talk to Becca.
Arizona talks to one of April's sisters, who reveals that her husband had an affair but they're "getting through it" (which she pours herself a massive glass of wine) for the sake of their three children.
Bailey again refuses to take the pills -- this time more angrily -- and Webber offers to take Bailey for a walk to get something to eat. She declines and says she needs to get back to surgery.
Meredith finds Cristina at the 3D printer. They commiserate for a moment about their experiments, even though Cristina had thought Meredith's sheep thing had gone smoothly. Mereidth tells Cristina that Shane "seems different." Cristina says she hasn't noticed. Meredith says Shane is suddenly "aggressive and mean" and asks whether he's trying to be more like Cristina. They argue about whether Meredith is suggesting Cristina messed him up. Cristina says her job is to work on Shane's surgical skill, not his personality.
Cristina leaves to see the baby, who is showing good signs and can come off the oscillator. The parent are relieved. Cristina and Shane leave, then, down the hall a ways, do a little celebratory dance.
Jimmy has another hallucination and Jo comes in to help. In the midst of his hallucination, Jimmy slams Jo against a wall, hitting the back of her head on it. Alex storms in, pulls Jimmy off of her and tells her to leave.
Alex puts his dad back in his bed and tells him to "sleep it off." Jo apologizes to Alex, but he tells her she shouldn't be sorry. He says his mother was crazy and his dad was a junkie and he "started running interference for them" when he was 6. "It's like riding a bike," he says.
Derek asks Becca to try one last time and she reluctantly agrees. John goes to leave, but Callie says they need him to stay. Derek asks John to stand in front of Becca and asks Becca just to think about what she wants to say to her husband, without actually saying it. The robotic hand starts moving, and eventually reaches out to touch John's hand. He cries and says he never thought she's "touch" him again.
April's bridal shower is happening and gets annoyed again with her sisters after they call her "Ducky" again. She declares that she's grown up now and is "a swan," and a "kick-ass surgeon," and admits that she's had sex before. She tells her sisters they're "fired" from being her bridesmaids and announces that "these" are her people now, referring to Arizona, Cristina and Meredith, saying they're going to be her bridesmaids.
At the hospital, Jackson and Matthew have a brief macho showdown about who was right and wrong about the incision. Jackson says he told April that Matthew did the right, but the truth was it took him eight hours to fix the damage. Jackson then asks if Matthew is threatened by him. After a bit of silence, Matthew admits he has no problem with Jackson and Jackson says the same. They shake hands and Matthew tells Jackson it would mean a lot to April if he can make it to the wedding. Matthew says now that he and Jackson are "good," he'd like for Jackson to be there.
Webber reminds Bailey, who is still struggling with her OCD, that she called him "a drunk" before his accident. She apologizes but he tells her she was right. He says he came back to the hospital because being home alone made him want to drink. He says he always wants to drink, "because I have a disease and it can't be cured, but it can be managed." He tells her to accept that she has a disease and accept the help being offered to her. She grabs the medication, pulls out a capsule and takes it.
That night, Arizona and Callie are fighting at their apartment. Callie grabs Arizona and kisses her, having taken a lesson from Becca and John, and suggests that they might be talking too much. Perhaps they should be talking less. They kiss some more.
