Definitely, this show is among the best ever and with only 12 episodes each season, it's really quick and we are left begging for more !
But, it it's the price to pay for this incredible cast and amazing locations, well it's OK with me. Just take a look at the last scene of Frank and you'll agree that shooting live in Chicago was a great choice : NYC or LA haven't this identity to taste all-American as Chicago offers the electricity of those megalopolis as well as the proximity to nature of a small town.
To describe this 4th season, i would say that it has mixed all the three previous ones : it happens on winter (as the first), it welcomes new characters and have dragging plots (as the second), some episodes succeed to be self contained (as the third). For me, it's one of the two big defects of this show : it's like a car stalling : it takes a lot of episodes to put the plot in shape and then, they all explode in the same time episode. The other big problem is that they use to much of the scarecrow trick : they are indeed confronted to serious threats (for example this year, death, prison, overdose, cheating, beating, expelling) but at the end, they escape nearly without a scratch! So, they should be more strict on this reality law if not it could be their demise !
Nevertheless, the show stays an absolute watch : the cast is always incredible and it's really cool to see them get mature ! It's cool that Franks gets a nomination to Emmys this year but it's a shame that Emmy still runs after it ! The new addition, Sammi, has been a great pick ! In addition, the social subtext of the show has never been seen before on TV as it diagnoses accurately that the American Dream has reach a cancerous and potentially deadly level : a lot of citizens are left to themselves in a society that values more money than human ! this year, we have dramatic highlights : teen violence, human trafficking, prison as a social solution, paying health-care and education, elite vices and exploitations.
As my best episode, i choose this 4.4 as Lip and I faced the same problem of getting late in University ! we were both expelled by teachers and we have both tried to discuss it with the dean : i remember clearly her answer that I was getting into really bad ways ! My case was all the more legitimate as i argued discrimination against this famous Law teacher, because he would agree to let enter late girls but not me !! After those 2 two clashes, i was just left alone as my parents, my brother, my then friends don't feel concerned. The only discussion I got was with a blind and useless therapist who said that it was interesting as it looked like a Parapraxis. Finally, unlike Lip who gets support from Kevin, i decided to indeed pause my law studies to ponder about my life (as Liam also) as it's this sabbatical year could count as my year of military service for which i had get an exemption ! So, i'm a bit a Gallagher too and in all cases, this family is close to me ! See you next year !
