To Catch a Killer
taystar1320 March 2014
The show is based around the investigative skills of everyday professionals, not actors. The cast comes from different intellectual backgrounds and work together to bring new light to old cases. These cases are interesting and hit close to home. It is nice to see someone investigating cases that would otherwise be forgotten.

The host is a police officer and criminologist, and these two complementary professions bring a diverse perspective to these challenging, yet fascinating cases.

If you haven't seen the show yet, give it a watch. Definitely worth the time.

Controversial, Momentous

Nothing like has really been tried in Canada and it already has been having some controversy brew up. Shows like this are old hat in US but this one certainly has some twists. The reality format rather than just re-enactments puts a new spin on things. Will be interesting to see when it goes to Netflix/iTunes and airs on pay TV in Europe what the feedback is. Its sort of a newer version of shows like Crimewatch that used to be on the BBC in England when I was a kid. Even if some the scenes like all reality TV seem a bit staged this is a very meaningful and powerful show. Oprah and her network are used to pushing the envelope and this series is a good fit for OWN. Even if you don't like crime or reality shows you would have to be a pretty heartless and worthless person to not appreciate what this show is doing for these families and the public!

Finally!

The team has the work ethic of the old school cops with the technology of today. They give much deserved hope to families looking for answers and peace and forward all their findings to law enforcement with hopes the case can be solved and closed.

These real cases are begging to be solved and these fresh eyes are exactly what they need. Fantastic topic, fantastic team and well produced. Each case is painstakingly chosen from the vast number of unsolved cases in Canada and family are kept well informed and kept in the loop at all times. Unlike the police, this team is willing to share any information they can with the family. This show has a vast supply of cases to choose from already and will be bringing peace to so many people

Show spends a lot of time on people already ruled out by DNA but I hope it brings attention to old cases
tippy2-484-74353330 March 2014
Show does bring attention back to those cold cases, I hope that brings some tips or clues to the murderers. The OPP and police are not wanting this type of thing. The Police officer running the show is leaving the force. I wonder if that is just due to his lack of time to work on the force, or is he being asked to leave, as this show is causing them to get many unwanted tips that they would not have to deal with. I don't like that the show spends a lot of time on suspects that have already been ruled out by police through DNA. The Show that most interested me, was the Jackie English show. Marilyn Hird has no idea who killed Jackie, she would be going on a guess or here say, and she is mentally ill. I spoke with Marilyn and she told me that Art Dunleavy and Sandy Wright did it. One is a police officer who's daughter was also murdered in London Ontario. She also told me that this police officer who has since passed, met Jackie and herself at Victoria Park and gave the girls wine on a blanket in the park, and then had sex with the girls. I don't like that people think this woman is holding back Information, she is so confused and screwed up that she doesn't know what she is saying most times. I am confused as to why she told me that information 6 different times in emails that I have saved, She is sure that is who did it . I also asked her about her brother or any other relative and she said she has no idea where they get that idea. She is no longer a credible witness so why bother even interviewing her. Marilyn Hird has not become mentally ill due to guilt, she was mentally disturbed when and before Jackie died. Marilyn had a tough go of things with her family.

I hope the shows brings some help to the families, other than that, it is a big money making game, and people should not be fooled by all the great things these folks are doing. Everyone wants there 15 minutes of fame. I also have an issue with making huge amounts of money of Sensationalism, calling London Ontario The serial killer capital of the world is sensationalism to sell books and TV shows. These families deserve more respect than to make their loved ones money making products. This may be a fact, but I can assure you, they are facts based on one mans idea of how to make this a fact. So far I can find only two serial killers that have been proved to work in the London area. No one Knows who killed these girls so how does it become a fact that they were killed by a serial killer, just because they have some similarities to other murders. I send my heart felt best wishes to the families, who have no more now than they did before the show, except maybe some hope.

Groundbreaking
kellykellyb2 March 2014
I work in a courthouse on the West Coast & there was a lot of buzz about this show last week among cops, lawyers, and what not. Caught the debut on Sat night & was blown away. Looks different than any series on TV and was very emotional. Recreations are chilling and family scenes very powerful. The cast like any reality show is regular everyday people and not actors but they all have some special skill that is of use when looking at cold cases everyone else has forgotten about. They all try experimental methods to try to get new momentum or uncover new evidence on the case over a 6 week period before making the reveal to the family and releasing new info to the public to try and get tips going again. The host is intense & stunning and apparently this started as a university class based on the publicity I've seen. Looking forward to this being avail as a box set.

Moving
mayaruins29 April 2014
I've seen every ep of this series' first season and it is very moving for a true TV show. Really interesting stories for those of us who have a fondness for history and social justice. Pace is quick and the family scenes heartfelt. Will probably buy the season on iTunes to re watch but am hoping for updates on cases soon, either through the show's FB page or media coverage. There is a big range of victims who's cases the crack team of experts with their young professor leader look at and dig into. There are the usual young co-eds killed by psychos but also elderly victims, middle aged men and more. The show does not discriminate and does their best to not make the police look lazy. I actually think they are more respectful to history than they need to be but they also have old cops appear as guests on the show so I guess they need to be diplomatic. The host is also a cop (or was) and no doubt doesn't want to show up his friends. Very emotional and stylish and actually very hard to believe this was produced in Canada considering how slickly cut it is. Being in HD and having major US network backing obviously helps. Not your typical Canuck show that's for sure!

Entertaining AND smart to boot!
goldiloxx-965-2294163 April 2014
Very cool premise. Pretty looking cop with lots of letters after his name becomes prof and writer and turns to mentoring young scientists in solving cold cases. No doubt some cops have some explaining to do once these cases get looked at again *but the show is very respectful and is not tabloid armchair quarterbacking cases like other show. all in all a very emotional show. A lot of bleeping like other reality shows but in this case its not b/c of swearing but to keep the info under wraps so killers don't know the show/cops are on to them.if you like anything to do with cold cases or forensics this show is prob more real than any of the; My only complaint is that there needs to be follow-up episodes on what happened with tho info and tips!!

Phenomenal! Gives you your inner sleuth fix!
honey_eyes_1227 December 2014
This show needs to air more often because I just can't get enough of it! The whole concept is so intriguing and fascinating. Using other members of the society to help solve cold cases is a creative idea and one which allows for everyday people to make a difference in their communities. The victims of these families only ever want one thing: for the offender to be caught and for justice to be served. Michael Arntfield has allowed for this hope to not be empty, but instead be fulfilled. There is no such thing as a cold case for Arntfield and his team, it is merely a "yet to be solved" case, as they take all the steps necessary to find the culprit. Through their ingenuity, they take fighting crime to a whole other level. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. They really show the meaning of what true perseverance and hard work entails as they attack an old case with fresh eyes. Highly recommend watching!
