Treason
kingsx_647 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Carrie wants desperately to get back in the action via blackmailing the acting CIA director. In her speech to him she accuses him of treason, which we all know is bad. But apparently it's ok as long as she gets what she wants, the Islamabad post. The reasoning she uses to stay quiet as long as she gets her way, and to also get away from her child makes it hard to route for her anymore. Remember, it's ok to cover up treason, as long as you get the job you want in return smh

Carrie comes home
Tweekums20 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After the events of last week where a drone strike took out a wedding party along with its target and the CIA Station Chief in Islamabad's murder Carrie and Quinn are back in the US. Carrie assumes it is just to be debriefed before she returns to take over in Pakistan; her boss assures her that she is not going anywhere. This means that Carrie will have to start looking after her baby daughter; something it soon becomes clear she is spectacularly ill-equipped to do. Determined to get the decision reversed she gets in contact was a case officer who had worked in Islamabad before being transferred to a dead-end posting after raising questions about how information was being gathered there. Quinn is also having a bad time; he ends up in police custody after beating two oafish restaurant customers who had insulted the woman he was with.

This series got off to a fine start but I feared things might start to turn soapy now Carrie was back in the US dealing with her baby rather than in the danger zone hunting for terrorists… thankfully it looks as though that is what will be happened as she nicely turned the tables on her boss; whether Quinn will be joining her remains a mystery though. The family scenes nicely, if a little disturbingly, showed that Carrie is definitely not a good mother but also that she is well aware of that. There wasn't too much action but that didn't matter too much as it felt like this episode was primarily setting things up for the rest of the series and getting Carrie back to Pakistan. Overall; not as good as the season opener but still worth watching; I look forward to tensions rising when Carrie gets to Islamabad.

Divorced from Real Life? Not so sure anymore!

I find this Show interesting enough. But ... 1) When I started watching it a few months back, the first thing that struck me was : People may have issues with CIA's motives and actions; but no one doubted their professional competence. So .. How could an emotional wreck of a woman be placed so high up in CIA? Was it just to please women [and/or Woke] viewers?

2) In season 4 on, they have shown Afghan characters speaking chaste Hindi! A show which spends millions on production cold not take some real Afghan actors? Or, make the Indian actors learn rudimentary. Pasto or Farsi (languages of Kabul based Afghani) But wait... Seeing what's been happening in Kabul over past week plus, I think may be a person like Carrie may have been in charge of CIA there!

Danes is a terrific actress, but ...
... seriously? How can someone with as much emotional baggage as Carrie be working for the CIA? And as a station chief, no less! That just goes beyond believable. I am not a subscriber to Showtime but I recently downloaded all of the episodes out of curiosity. I really enjoyed the first two seasons, and some of the third season as well. But right now it looks like it is turning into a prime time soap opera with some occasional violence and intelligence work.

I was so impressed by Claire Danes's performances in the first seasons that I've continued to watch the series. But honestly, if she wasn't in the series any more I would stop watching.

My poor rating is for the content. Without Danes (who I honestly never heard of before I started watching "Homeland") I would rate it lower.

Dampened the Homeland premiere occasion
RyanCShowers12 October 2014
Showtime incorrectly planned the "two-part" event because the second episode, "Trylon and Perisphere", was not nearly as potent or smartly crafted as "Drone Queen". In fact, it considerably dampened the "Homeland" premiere occasion. The invaluable Saul was put to no use and floated in limbo for most this episode, waiting to be better utilized in future episodes. Inconsistent character work and plotting afflicted the episode's narrative, including one instance where "Homeland" challenged a sensitive topic that not even the deplorable season three would have risked. (For those who have seen it, I am referring to the bathtub scene. Maybe the writers were thinking, "Let's just throw our great character in Carrie Mathison completely down the drain with the baby's life?") "Trylon and Perisphere" felt like an orphan from early season three and let down the adventure "Drone Queen" built in the firm premiere.

Never seen a baby before
cmburton-2987523 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The writers for this show have clearly never had children. Car seat in the front seat. Baby gets not 1 but 4 lights in their room. Has a blanket AND a pillow lol. Also let's not leave out that psycho looney tried to Jill her baby. I don't know why I watch this.
