The story says the wives got new station wagons and the astronauts got new 1960 Corvettes. However, that wasn't true. Alan Shepard already had a 1957 Corvette and received a 1962 Corvette as a gift from Chevrolet after his first flight. The new car plan was actually a $1 per year lease for two cars from Jim Rathmann Chevrolet that started in 1962, so none of them would have been driving this group of 1960 Corvettes.
In the description of the Sputnik launch, a hammer and sickle overshadowed an American flag. The flag depicted is a 50 star flag which did not exist until 1959. Sputnik was launched in 1957.
