John Hamburg knows a little something about comedies where parents disapprove of their spawn’s dating choices – he wrote all three of the Meet The Parents films. He’s dipping into that well again for a new movie, called Why Him? and he has James Franco in talks to star. The script, which Hamburg co-wrote with Bad Neighbours director Nick Stoller and The Oranges writer Ian Helfer, finds a Midwestern father taking his family to visit his daughter, who is attending Stanford. But the Christmastime trip is soured somewhat when he meets her boyfriend, an ambitious Internet billionaire (probably think Sean Parker more than Mark Zuckerberg) – the role Franco is up for – and immediately takes a disliking to him. Thus kicks off a battle for his daughter’s attention as the dad tries to compete with this charismatic new rival. Hamburg, who most recently made TV movie Good Session, is...

Every actor will tell you that the TV pilot process is only predictable in its total and utter unpredictability. Last week, we ran a piece in which we spoke briefly to seven actors who had shot pilots that were up for possible series pickups at this week's network upfronts. Now that everything's shaken out and we know which shows are going to appear this upcoming fall, here are the extended transcripts of our discussions with Mad Men's Ben Feldman (the recently departed Ginsberg), whose A to Z will appear on NBC, and Rich Sommer (Harry Crane), whose Good Session will unfortunately not be on CBS. The two, interviewed separately, talk about the pilot dance, what it was like starting on Mad Men, and what life might be like after the show ends.Ben Feldman A lot of people have compared the whole pilot season situation to dating.Oh, absolutely.

In just four weeks, we’ll find out if Anthony Lapaglia and David Schwimmer will stage comebacks to prime time, or if Flash will really fly for the CW. Chances are it will, but what about those comic book-inspired dramas in the works at Fox and NBC?
Here’s your chance to see all the possibilities, but don’t get your hopes up too high: A majority of these pilots won’t make the cut for fall.

Fresh off all that media buzz about how HBO’s cult comedy The Comeback should get a comeback (sorry, I had to go there eventually), HBO is considering reviving it as a limited series. I’m excited and wary, The Comeback was an amazing, ahead-of-its-time series. It’s pretty dangerous trying to recapture that kind of magic, especially when one of the minds behind it now works on the aggressively regressive 2 Broke Girls.
It’s disappointing news but we were warned it was probably coming. USA has ordered a final, six-episode season of White Collar. Is it just me or have we been talking about a lot of USA dramas heading to their series finales, lately?
I’m going to miss these guys saving each other.
Marvel announced that Patton Oswalt will be appearing on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Agent Eric Koenig, one of the Howling Commandos.

Tracey Ullman seems like the perfect person to tell you whether or not you should bring a child into the world, so it makes sense that she's been cast as an "astute, straightforward, yet funny" therapist in CBS's single-cam comedy pilot Good Session. Psych star James Roday and an as-yet uncast actress will play a couple who consults with Ullman about their baby conundrum, an interesting dilemma with a variety of possible approaches, at least until the show gets picked up for a second season and they have to go ahead and pop one out regardless.
