Doesn't even scratch the surface
While I applaud those who had the courage to speak out against a federal government controlled, one-size-fits-all curriculum, this film did not even scratch the surface of the idiocy - and lies - contained in Common Core.
Needed were some examples of how Common Core math was to be done. Examples that would utterly confuse and infuriate any who learned how to do math years ago. Learning some things by rote might have seemed difficult at first; but when the foundation was laid with the correct learning materials, "doing the math" was not hard at all. The irrational and utterly illogical way to figure math problems under Common Core is worse than bad, it is horrendous.
As to "Language Arts" under Common Core, it is my understanding that instead of teaching the "classics" of Western Civilization, geared for students' ages and ability, what is advocated instead are a tiny handful of "literature" examples (most of which have a "politically correct" bias), and the rest are to be government or business document oriented. There are enough children in this day and age for whom reading is a chore (thanks, in large part to their parent(s) dislike of reading). Forcing children to read what might otherwise put a normal adult to sleep as "language arts" is a horrible idea. Personally, I was reading Charles Dickens at age 7 - "A Christmas Carol". I loved it. Because I started reading (Dr. Seuss) at a very early age, I enjoyed reading; and I enjoy a good work of fiction - or non-fiction - to this day.
As to History... Well, let's just say that Common Core "advocates" who want children to "assume" that the Constitution of the United States and its Bill of Rights are outdated, antiquated documents; and who want children unacquainted with the reasoning behind the document to arbitrarily decide what they could remove and what they want to be included instead, are doing the children of the United States a grave disservice. In addition, understating or denying the benefits of the Judeo-Christian ethics in building Western Civilization, while whitewashing the 1400 years of the wars of conquest of Islam is not going to help those children see the dangers of a totalitarian regime thinly disguised as a "religion" when it becomes a danger. See what is happening in the countries throughout Europe if you don't believe me.
Well, I've probably run out of room to comment; but I'll leave this discussion with one further thought. Look at who are the ones promoting Common Core: Bill Gates, Pres. Obama, The Business Roundtable and the Chamber of Commerce, not to mention the Dept. of Education, which needs desperately to justify its continued (un-Constitutional) existence. One only needs to look at who is "pushing" this drivel to become more than somewhat suspicious of their motives. Advocates will claim that they are truly trying to do their best in furthering the "education" (read: indoctrination) of America's children. Just remember that the road to hell is paved with "good intentions".
