'Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 2 (2014)' is arguably more disturbing than its predecessor. Seriously, it's scary. Though its song isn't as catchy as the one in the first film (none of the sequel songs are), it's still a deceptively friendly and fun piece of music. The aesthetic is just as authentic as it was last time, too. It's a fantastically dark affair. This one is about the concept of time and (beware mild spoilers for theming) the fact that it eventually runs out for all of us. You can't escape it. The flick is a satire about the way in which children's programming sugar coats this fact, inverting the dynamic by having its characters be forced to face their own mortality. Yes, it's about time, but its true horror is death. It's a relatively basic theme, for sure, but the way in which it's handled is effective. The glimpses of gore we get are just as disquieting as ever, and the forced facing of perhaps humanity's greatest collective fear is sure to provoke a reaction. In the end, you'll be just like its characters: begging for it to stop. He can't make it stop, he's just a clock. 8/10.
