What's the deal with Polly?
eunbi053023 July 2018
The first season Polly wanted to pass as the "matriarch" of the family, however as the season passed she seemed as spoiled as Ada, and she is supposed to be what in her early 20s?

In 2x01 she once again had shown she isn't suited to be on a role of relevance, the only compliment we heard for her is that she "always understands matters of the heart", but that ain't what their business is about, and now on episode 2x02 we are reinforced of her inability to take any responsibilities.

Aunt Pol is a bigger hassle than Arthur, because the latter still has brawls that can be used on battles. I really wished they made her a more reliable character, specially after Tommy said they believe in women equal rights. (BTW Ada could suit this role, like a Michael Corleone kind of thing, being a natural even though nobody knew that)

Saved by a copper

Decent storyline in terms of making moves and developing Polly's subplot. However, the over exaggerated crazy weird crime boss trope is just a bit too much.

Alfie Solomons becomes one of the best characters on Peaky Blinders
Neptune16517 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The pacing of this show is very different than an American show. British series typically have only 6 episodes per season, which means there's no time to dawdle or spend time on non-essential scenes. Every scene has to move the story along in a significant way. It actually makes the pacing quite brilliant. Alfie wasn't actually talking about the cabinet when he talking about cutting it in half. He was saying that if he killed Tommy, he'd cut him in half and stuff him in barrels to get rid of the body. That's why he asked of Tommy wanted to go to Timbuktu. He was asking if Tommy wanted to die..

Damn! This was a great episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Damn! This was a great episode! It was nice to see Tom Hardy's character show up, Alfie Solomons was a very fun character, his one scene in this episode was episode was incredibly enjoyable, and a highlight. As for the other characters, it was very nice to see Finn to get a little bit of a spotlight, and his relationship with Arthur was very nice, and would love to see more of it. Isiah seems interesting, even though he only got a few moments of screen time. Tommy is a very interesting character to watch... I'm a sucker for normally ambiguous characters and Tommy is one of the best I've seen. His relationships with the other characters are so interesting, and I can't wait to continue watching him. Polly was exceptional in this episode. She was acted to rawly, emotionally, and honestly, realistically. The situation she's in is gut-wrenching, and the cliffhanger at the end of this episode was very interesting, and I'm honestly excited to see what Micheal's character will be like. Campbell and Tommy's interaction was quite interesting, and Campbell is probably the character I like the least in this show. Ada was good in this episode, she's a character I wouldn't mind seeing more screentime from, and I would love to see more of her realtionships. The other characters in this episode were also stellar, they just didn't get much to do. I'm much more invested in the story now, and this episode was totally a step up from the last one. The cinematography was great, especially in the party scene towards the end. The last few scenes were some of the best in the show (so far) and the soundtrack is complementing them so well. The scene where Arthur had cocaine and Arctic Monkeys was playing in the background... That was pretty epic. The party scene was also great, and the Garrison is a very fine-looking set piece. So much of the period is reflected here, and it's so much fun to watch on screen. Great episode.

So bad it's tough to watch
yavermbizi19 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My overall rating of "Peaky Blinders"'s Season 2: 3/10.

It is incredible how the two new main players in this season, Solomons, the Jewish gangster, and Sabini, the Italian one, both have these mind-numbingly long dialogue scenes which carry next to no meaning and are just torturous to watch. Their characters are not only revolting, they are also incredibly boring. It would've been much more entertaining to watch Thomas, or Moss, or Campbell, or absolutely anybody with at least a microgram of charisma talk to a literal wall! It's just tough, man, I was exhausted (Apparently Solomons is played by this Tom Hardy that people have been hankering for - I'd seen him in "Taboo", which is one of the worst series I'd ever watched, but I'd honestly rather watch "Taboo" over scenes with his character here, that's how bad it gets. I wonder if I'm ever going to see Tom Hardy actually act, maybe change a facial expression or something, but for what it's worth he has the market cornered on "moody, whisper-growling tough guy" characters, bless him).

As for the rest of it... Arthur's all messed up, he's not the interesting character we'd seen in S1 - a dimwitted brawler who loves his brother but resents him for running the show all on his own. The plot is nearly nonsensical (Thomas' recovery; Esme immediately betraying her promise to Polly; Michael just immediately being so immensely invested in this strange woman, his biological mother...). It's just tough.
