A childish and mindless entertainer which you better skip
SAMTHEBESTEST2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
SINGH IS BLING REVIEW- Just watched SIB and first thing coming in my mind is,'Why did i watch it...? Seriously did they read the script or thought about it.. I am Akshay Kumar but i am writing this honestly without any diplomacy. Even i was excited when saw the trailer and heard that blockbuster Jodi of Prabhudeva and Akki coming back after a long time since their last successful venture Rowdy Rathore. After hearing their interviews and thoughts about movie i got more excited and started expecting too much from movie. And now i am feeling like why didn't i skip it..? Really a mindless entertainer which you cant tolerate at all. Lets talk about every field separately. Acting- Akshay and Amy gave their best but sadly their role and dialogs were pathetic but still i say both were only 2 shining stars of this movie. Akki looks very handsome Sardaar and Amy was even hotter and more heroic than Akshay. Lara Dutta came back after a long time and strikes very badly here. Her role was even worse than movie. Other star cast was OK OK. Music- its could have been most important part of this kind of entertaining movie but here music also fails to impress. Tung Tung Baje was energetic,Dil Kare Chu Che sounds irritating at the start but then catches a tempo till its finishes, Mama song was also strictly average. Only Aaja Mahi rocks but then we realise it was a remake. Story and Screenplay- Really should i write on this? I mean was there anything like story and screenplay in a movie. Story was below average we can understand but what's wrong with screenplay maker..? Even you can give verdict of the screenplay when interval appears. Obviously the main reason of the failure of this movie is its pathetic Screenplay. Dialogs were funny sometimes and also childish sometimes. Some siti maaru dialogs are also there. But overall strictly OK. Camera work was good but in some scenes it looks very old style. Those predictive same angles again and again. Direction - ''What the hell..? '' the only verdict coming out from my mouth for Director. Really Prabhudeva what have you done? Made an average script to look like a headache. I was Prabhudeva's direction's fan when watched his directed ventures like Wanted,Rowdy Rathore, Ramaiya Vastavaiya but don't know what happened to him now..? Another crap by him after Action Jackson. Animals were talking so you can imagine what is the quality of his direction. So one thing is clear now that Prabhudeva can make good movies only if its a remake. Only when he copy pastes it. With fresh story and script he is zero. Thumbs down.. Final Words- Overall a childish, mindless entertainer. Really i am feeling like how did i tolerate it. When i think about watching it again i feel scary. Can watch it again only for Akki but that would be like Height of fan following so i am not gonna watch it again not even at home. So you can skip it for many reasons. You can watch it only if you are an Akshay Kumar fan. Watchable only for Akki and Amy otherwise skipping it is strongly recommended. * * * * 4 stars by me :) (y)

Watch it for Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson !!!
ketgup834 October 2015
There is a overdose of masala entertainment films by Akshay Kumar in 2015 - Baby, Gabbar Is Back and Brothers. Good news is that Singh Is Bliing is better than his previous film Brothers ... bad news is that it is yet another typical action-melodrama with nothing new to offer. Singh Is Bliing was a typical bran-less , nonsensical entertainer which was certainly an improvement over Prabhudeva's debacle Action Jackson

A young girl Sara ( Amy Jackson) from Romania lands in Goa to her father's friend to search for her lost mother after her parents separated few years ago. Enters good-for-nothing but gem of a person - Raftaar Singh (Akshay Kumar) whose job is take care of Sara. Raftaar Singh becomes Sara's only hope to find her mother in Goa.

After giving of string of masala films like Wanted , Rowdy Rathore, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, R..Rajkumar and Action Jackson, Prabhudeva is back with yet another popcorn entertainment with strong first half but diluted second half. The film begins with a bang with vibrant and tuneful song "Tung Tung", comedy scenes at Goa especially from Lara Dutta and the chemistry and comic humour between Akshay and Amy will keep you engaged throughout the 1st half. However, the film goes down the rabbit hole and is completely lost in the dark in the later part. Direction is lame with minute focus on screenplay at all. Screenplay is weak. Cinematography is amazing. Art direction is good. Background score is better. Editing could have been better. Despite weak merits, it is the performances which makes the film watchable. Akshay is fantastic. He will make you laugh with his superb dialogues and funny antics. Amy will surprise you as tough chick. The gorgeous actress emotes expressively and should go a long way. Lara Dutta makes a good comeback and does well in a minuscule role.

Overall, Singh Is Bliing promises to deliver but is letdown by wafer-thin 2nd half. Watch it for Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. Decent 2.75/5

Evokes laughter at places due to enjoyable performance and witty dialogues
dineshprakash2 October 2015
Director Mr. Prabhu Deva has some unique sense of weird shot taking, which looks fresh and interesting some how. In this film, it is in plenty. Story is very routine. Approach in screenplay is good. Dialogues by Chintan Gandhi is very good. It is one of the major plus point of movie. Especially the dialogues of English to Hindi translation are very good but for laughter, audience must have little bit familiar with English lingo, like moron, kick a*s but surprisingly, how can one imagine that any person in India would not understand the meaning of I love you, which is exaggerated a bit. Even illiterate person understands at least, sorry, thank you, I love you. Scene like, walking in sleep is so old but good performance easily creates humor. Girl triggering the remote control bomb, while standing on that, is comic due to timing and placing. They have tried to insert some emotional angle rather than love, like searching her mother, over caring mother, angry strict father but most of the scenes fall flat. Major drawback of this film is its last half an hour, which is slow and boring. No humor, no intrigue value. Scenes in climax are badly stretched. Performance wise Akshay Kumar is very impressive. He has justified the character very well, with correct expression and emotion. Leading girl Amy Jackson is very good. She never goes overboard and shines in action scenes. Surprise factor is Lara Dutta, her comedy timing and expressions are just fantastic. She succeeds to create laughter in most of her scenes. Actor, #ArfiLamba and #AnilMange, who played lead male friends are very good. They lend apt support. Music is just foot tapping without any melody or meaning.

save your time and money Skip this one
joshivinay2 October 2015
Just like any other Akshay Kumar movie. You see you have a couple of laugh and then you forget about it.. Silly CONCEPT silly dialogue. The Only good thing about this movie is Amy Jackson and Romanian Landscape.. Akshay Kumar aka Raftaar Singh is not good in anything and leaves everything without finishing it. His dad gives him a choice either to marry or go to Goa where he will working for his dads old friend and Amy Jackson comes there to find her mother. The leading lady Amy doesn't even have more than 15 dialogue in whole movie.. The screenplay makes you Bored and helps you to get a nice sleep Save your Time and Money Skip this one

forget it as soon you can
amazing_amy-408432 October 2015
Being a big fan of Akshay Kumar i went to watch this movie, but forget all recent performances by him, this one is to be missed. I am greatly disappointed in him and Prabhudeva. 0 script lots of songs and awful jokes(If they can be called 1) Only Colours used in songs are nice, Amy Jackson is used as an eye candy. No story at all, I anticipated a lot more from Akshay. Kay Kay Menon is a saving grace. If you have some free time to kill, instead watch his old comedy movies but skip this one. My entire score is just for Akshay's performance only. I never saw Singh is King but now i would like to just to compare if this was worst than This excuse of a movie. Skip it at all cost.

Akshay as singh is blinging all around
Manish19892 October 2015
People who always try to find some kind of logic in movies please stay away from singh is bling because this movie is not for you.its a hardcore comedy where you are going to see Akshay at his best as Raftar singh from the very first scene of movie you start smiling and then that smile is going to convert in strong laughter while typing this review I am also smiling at the silliness of the movie which definitely is the idea behind making this movie.in first half there are some scene where u will not able to control your laughter for long where second half is more about action(which is not as good as first half).Akshay is main center focus of the movie but stars like Lara Dutta(surprised by this Avatar of her),Yograj Singh, Reti Agnihotri and other supporting cast did what is required for movie Amy Jackson was not good with her acting skills but she was there to look good or you can say hot and she did that perfectly.some scene was well written and actors made those scene laughable direction was good considering Prabhudeva was making a movie without logic.could have been better but still a good family entertainer.

Do watch it for only Akshay Kumar. Okay! You can go for lovely Amy Jackson too.
husichan2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Singh Is Bliing is an action comedy film directed by Prabhudeva. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson and Lara Dutta in the lead roles. And it's not sequel of 'Singh Is King' as far as story-line is concerned.

Okay so the film tells the story of Raftaar Singh (Akshay Kumar). Raftaar Singh is living happily in his village. But he is the biggest irritant of his father (Yograj Singh). And an emotional mother. As it is common in Punjabi films (not in real), he is irresponsible and always looking for fun with his friends. One day his father feds up and asks him to go to Goa and do some work for his friend there. Upon reaching in Goa, he impresses his new boss with his enthusiasm and out of the box thinking. Soon he meets his lady love Sara (Amy Jackson) there. But the problem is that she cannot speak Hindi while Raftaar cannot understand English. Then he is joined by the lovable Emily (Lara Dutta) as a translator who almost ruins their budding love.

Will Raftaar Singh, who can't even communicate properly be able to win her over in a distant and dangerous land? Watch the film to find out. The only surprise element so far has been Sunny Leone.

Performances:

When it comes to comedy, no one can beat Akshay Kumar. This film is all about Akshay Kumar. He rules the character from the first frame itself. Amy Jackson does a decent job. She still needs to improve her dialogue delivery. Lara Dutta as Emily, acts well in comedy scenes. Hope, this film will help her to get new projects ahead. If I do consider other films of Prabhudeva, this film does not even touch that mark. But still it's watchable. It includes comedy and action too. Screenplay is decent. Editing could have been done in a better way. This movie has a boring second-half.

Wrapping Up:-

Go for: • Akshay Kumar • Comedy

Bypass it for: • Second half of the film • Overall Story

For me it's: Being an angle I'm giving it 6*/10

Raftaar's Swag.. A complete Roller coaster Ride
ytanwani10 October 2015
this is the second film by prabhudeva thats Stars Akshay Kuma. They were seen in Rody Rathode that really did good at box office. this movie is about Raftaar Singh a villager who hasn't completed any work in his life. The film revolves around akshay as Raftaar and Amy Jackson (Sara). they both cant understand each others language so they hire a translator Lara Dutta (Emily).Lara duta plays important role and her efforts in this movie play a important role in comic punches. Akshay has been always all rounder entertainer whether its comedy movie or action movie he always knows how to pick up script. Akshay will be seen in avatar we have seen him before in Singh is King but this time he is more charming and cute than ever. and Lara Dutta plays a very crucial role and she is one of the reason you will not get bore because how she ruins their relationship is a major reason that will make you laugh. I would say its a full time entertainment movie you wont get bore for sure because how one can forget that Kay Kay Menon is the main Antagonist and he is just too good. its a family movie and you will definitely fall in love with Raftaar's Swag

"You Went Full Retard, Man. Never Go Full Retard." ♦ Grade F
nairtejas2 October 2015
I am not going to dignify this film with a review. So I'll sing a song instead. Thanks to Lou Bega.

A little bit of harmony in my life, a little bit of good books by my side; a little bit of good films is all I need, a little bit of bad films is what I see; A little bit of Akshay Kumar in the sun, a little bit of Amy Jackson all night long; A little bit of EXIT here I am, a little bit of therapist makes me your man

Once again!

A little bit of harmony in my life, a little bit of good books by my side; A little bit of sense is all I need, a little bit of nonsense is all I see; A little bit of Prabhudeva in the sun, a little bit of Sunny Leone all night long; A little bit of Mars here I am, a little bit of "a female Martian" makes me your man.

I know you guys (Indians) have a longer weekend this October 1st week and want to spend your money on films. But I beg you not to consider this film. Even if you are mad about the Khiladi, or want to catch a glimpse of Prabhudeva in his idiotic cameo, or want to dive into Miss Jackson's you-know-what, I beg you, I beg you not to watch this film. Try The Martian (2015) or Talvar (2015) instead.

BOTTOM LINE: Prabhudeva's Singh Is Bliing is pure balderdash, and why someone like Kumar would act and go full retard in it is beyond me.

GRADE: F

SINGH IS BLIING is a slapstick comedy that offers paisa-vasool entertainment.
srivastava-ritesh551 October 2015
Seriously, it is a PAISA VASOOL entertainer. Akshay Kumar steals the show from the first frame as he gets into the skin of his character perfectly well. One can't image any other actor playing the role of Raftaar Singh with Akshay's style and outstanding comic timing. Walking shoulder to shoulder with him, is the surprise package (read 'revelation') of the film: Amy Jackson. Even though she hardly has any Hindi dialogue in the film, she manages to play the Bollywood lead actress with full conviction. Amy has a number of action scenes in the film, in which she excels and how. Her swift action moves while beating the bad guys are very impressive. Lara Dutta, who features mainly in the first half, surprises with her very strong comic timing. Kay Kay Menon is decent as an evil but funny villain. Anil Mange and Arfi Lamba are hilarious as Akshay's side-kicks. So, it will not going to upset u... so, just go & watch it for making weekend more entertaining. IT IS A MUST WATCH MOVIE. Thank You

Singh Is Bliing - Akshay yet again shines as the lovable SARDAR
vbvigneshbala3 October 2015
As we have all come to know what to expect from this kind of a film! Expectations if kept in check, the film can be easily enjoyable. Some films are seen for their sheer story telling, casting, screenplay and of course strong characters. And, the other films are seen only for their Lovableness and their way of providing entertainment. SINGH IS BLIING falls into the latter.

TBH, you can't except a story in such a film. If you go on looking for some in such a film, then you yourself are making a mockery of you. SIB is a fun film to watch whose sole intention is to entertain its audience (read Mass). And, it rightfully succeeds in its job. It has gags coming at a good speed which can be enjoyed by all classes of audiences. The film has its share of concerns but still it never bores you. You are constantly entertained with its jokes and dialogs.

The film's biggest asset is undoubtedly Akshay Kumar. Back with the Sardar getup and he never disappoints. His antics,Goofiness and Comedy-Timings are well known and he lives up-to the hype - Extremely entertaining. Amy Jackson, beautiful and keeps the audiences' engaged with her Action avatar. Lara Dutta, back after a long stint is super energetic on the screen and gives you a hearty laugh with her timing. Dialogues are really good. Cinematography is amazing!(you don't expect in a Comedy film)

Comedy is a serious business as 'making people laugh' is the toughest job and the team SIB succeeds in it. Prabhu Dheva comes back in style.

Note: It's not a sequel to Singh is Kinng but, it is so great to see Akshay back as a Sardar. Entertainment galore. Don't miss!

Singh is Bliing review
ahwaan_padhee7 October 2015
If I am asked to evaluate Prabhudeva's credentials as a director, I would say the box office outcomes of two of his last outings - Rowdy Rathore and Action Jackson has made him smart. One was an uproarious hit and the latter was excruciatingly disastrous. Singh is Bliing which marks the second collaboration of Akshay Kumar and Prabhudeva, has the right recipe for raking the moolah with smart placement of mindless humor, silly jokes, exotic locales, NRI heroine and of course the hero, playing a Sardar, with immense crowd-pull.

And he certainly knows how to maneuver Akshay in his comfortable space.Give him a hollow script and challenge him a bit.Your job is mostly done! So Singh is Bliing sees him playing Raftaar Singh, a slacker who spends all his time either dancing to the tunes of 'Tung Tung' or performing stunts or wrestling for fun.In a sequence involving a lion in the cage , Prabhudeva brings out the disarming goofiness of the good-natured simpleton, who has such extreme reverence for his Bauji(Yograj Singh) that whenever he appears, Raftaar squats. Fed up with his good-for-nothing son, he sends him off to Goa to work for his friend, Kripal(Pradeep Rawat)who runs a casino. The plot switches to Romania where we see two dons at loggerheads,Kunal Shashi Kapoor who has a beautiful daughter Sara(Amy Jackson) and Marc(Kay Kay).Marc has a roving eye for Sara and therefore her dad sends her to Goa, Kripal's den. Upon her arrival, Raftaar is asked to provide her 24X7 security but the problem arises when he learns that Sara doesn't know Hindi and Raftaar can neither understand nor speak English. He appoints a translator,Emily(Lara Dutta)to make the job easy but on the contrary, there ensues a comedy of errors with Raftaar's bumbling buddy duo(Arfi Lamba and Anil Mange) and some hilarious situations.

The first half of the film is breezy and Prabhudeva whips up the wafer-thin plot with 'Punjabi' tadka and generous dose of humor which include some wacky pieces of comedy and sexist jokes. However, they don't appear vulgar and are not meant to be.He employs a myriad stereotypes but presents the colorful vignettes of the hinterland which captures the various flavors and fervor of the Punjabis. We see Raftar's gang of 'balle-balle' friends appearing from nowhere and dancing in revelry whenever he gets down from train, a stern father who is soft from within , and a mother sharing warmth and eye-ticks with his son.The lush greeneries,wide-angle shots of the mustard fields of Punjab, the exquisite landscape of Goa and Romania play to the film's cinematic benefits. Its the amateurish writing that plagues the second half. This is further jeopardized by some unnecessary songs acting as speed bumps.Amy's search for her long- lost mom doesn't evoke any sentiments because it is so flimsy and I was shocked with disbelief when Akshay survives Kay Kay's bullet below his chest in the climax. No logic provided!

Prabhu has utilized the star cast prudently, concealing their limitations. Example,Amy who plays Akshay's love interest, is shown as a martial-art champ decimating the goons to pulp, much more proficiently than Akshay does.Lara Dutta's comic timing is exploited judiciously. The supporting cast comprising of Yograj Singh,Rati Agnihotri and Kunal Shashi Kapoor( seen after a hiatus) does a decent job who are relatively understated among the crowd of actors who perform over-the-top.Kay Kay Menon is completely miscast in the role of the mafioso, and it's a shame to watch the actor in such a cardboard caricature uttering the seemingly cool punchlines repeatedly ,"I am too good na" or "Easy is boring!". He certainly deserves better as per his acting prowess. Yet the film is not unwatchable because of the sheer energy that Akshay Kumar projects on the screen. His tomfoolery is infectious, his antics are endearing and he is the cool Punjab-da- puttar donning the turban and the vibrant costumes.

It's agreeably a film with very low IQ, but strong EQ. Definitely , not boring.

Light hearted and full of laughter
aashishhfire5 October 2015
Amazing comic timing! Akshay Kumar is improving at this in every comedy movie that he does. This year this is the fourth movie for Akshay and switching gears from Baby to 'Gabbar is back' to Brothers to 'Singh is Bliing' all four movies have different characters played to the fullest by Akshay. Singh is Bliing has an amazing opening song!! Very light hearted comedy. Amy Jackson does justice to her character too. Lara Dutta is a big surprise!! The dance moves in the movie complement the theme of 'comedy'. Almost everything about this movie makes you laugh. One thing that makes this movie believable is that Raftaar does not eventually speak in English / Sara does not eventually speak in Hindi. Overall it is a complete entertainer. We do not need to expect stories out of any movie these days!

Awful
wertogg3 October 2015
This was ridiculous. I enjoyed the jokes but I couldn't bare to watch through this rubbish. Don't put non-indians in my Indian movies. And then you put the non-Indian in there and make them be like super power. indians are super power. and to top it off this was so fake you cant stand it. I can stand fake of Akshay flying around beating up baddies, but you put the pretty princess as the action hero? The priness beating up the goons? Oh and then the goon had a princess of his own that was action hero. What the hell? And stupid messages of promoting lewd disgusting and crude behavior from women this is ridiculous. And they tried to validate this behavior. I couldn't stand that and couldn't enjoy the Akshay style comedy. Completely ruined. Whatever "loveliness" the actresses had was ruined. Very poor movie. Lara's role wasn't so bad but still she got a bit of the same treatment.

Songs were completely littered with English, i couldn't bare it. They sounded catch but it was ridiculous how much English they put.

Ludicrous. Extremely disappointed.

Akshay Kumar's SINGHgiri is just too entertaining and funny. A mindless film, but a masaladar one!
jmoneyjohal2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
FUN is the word that is emphasized in Singh Is Bliing, the film doesn't have a serious note in it. SIB is 2hrs and 30 mins of just laughter, and enjoyment. Even the most serious scene has a comic flair. The deadly combo of Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva is back after the success of Rowdy Rathore. But unlike RR, SIB is a masala entertainer, where comedy is has been given importance, and action is just a under current(RR was the opposite). However Id just like to state to all that Singh Is Bliing is not a sequel to Singh Is Kiing. Prabhu Deva makes a comeback of sorts with SIB after that disastrous Action Jackson, and he has redeemed himself with SIB. But mostly thanks to Akshay Kumar, who shoulders the whole film on his back, and he is in amazing form, he is just so entertaining to watch on screen. The underlining messages of SIB is what makes film above average, those of women empowerment (they should learn self defence), that a Singh always respects his parents, that he always helps the needy and that however the circumstances he always protects his honour. In short Singh Is Bliing is a simple, yet a very masaladar entertainer that the whole family can watch, and laugh there heart out.

Story wise the film is about a Sardaar named Raftaar Singh who lives in a village in Punjab. Raftaar's parents especially his dad is feed up with his happy go lucky life, where he just fools around and does nothing. Raftaar's dad knows his son is of good character, and has a heart of gold, but he wants him to mature up. Therefore he sends Raftaar (with his two best friends)to Goa to work for his friend (also a Sadaar). Running parallel is the story of a girl named Sarah who leaves Romania to go to Goa after her dad who is a arms dealer is worried about her safety from a goon named Mark, who is after her. Raftaar therefore is given the job of taking care of Sarah while she is in Goa but she understands no Hind and he doesn't understand English. What ensues after that is a comedy of errors between both of them, and how they fall in love, and the repercussions form the rest of the plot.

Acting wise Akshay Kumar is back, and his Singhgiri is the best. Watching him in his comic flair is just too entertaining, and the way he shoulders the whole film on his back, is just outstanding. Amy Jackson I must say is a revelation in SIB, the way she pulls of action is just superb. Lara Dutta is a laugh riot on screen as Emily, her sleepwalking scene is one of the best scenes in the film. KK menon is good. Both of Akshay's friends Anil and Arfi are superb. Yoraj Singh and Rati are also apt.

With a film like SIB, the negative points are those that plague most masala entertainers. The film is mindless at times, and the film has no real proper story, its rely's more on different situational comedy tracks. Also there is stereotypical villain etc.But I must say compared to Welcome Back ( a recently released masala entertainer) this film is eons better, in every which way, its not as logic less as WB. But at the end of the day its a Prabhu Deva film and if you have entered the cinema hall knowing this, you get what you expect. He is no Raju Hirani. Therefore Singh Is Bliing works because its a laugh riot from the first frame to last, the film never has a dull moment. The songs are superb, the production vaules are top notch, and most importantly the hero Akshay Kumar is at his best. The climax action scene gave me goosebumps and is superb also. And I must add that Punjab has never looked so beautifully and colorful in any film before.

Overall SIB is a family entertainer, that the whole family will enjoy. It makes no qualms about what it is, and if your a fan of funny masala entertainers then rush to the theatres, because the movies singh is blinging all over the screen.

Limited Laughter!
namashi_19 October 2015
Prabhu Deva's 'Singh Is Bliing' is a lighthearted entertainer, that offers some genuinely funny moments. However, the laughter & the entertainment are limited to the first-hour, as the second-hour fizzles in comparison.

'Singh Is Bliing' Synopsis: Raftaar Singh, a kindhearted, yet good-for-nothing man, is sent to Goa by his father for work proposes. While there, he falls for a Foreigner, who's being chased by a thug. Chaos Follows...

'Singh Is Bliing' works nicely in the first-hour. The humour, though non-sense, it works & some sequences leave you in splits. The Lara Dutta track, especially, is very funny. Sadly, the story stagnates in its second-hour. The pace drops & the humour stops being fun. Also, the track of the villain, lacks meat. In short, the first-hour is a hit, while the second-hour takes a hit!

Shiraz Ahmed's Screenplay is good to a point. Even the dialogue are quite enjoyable. But, the second-hour is a downer. Prabhu Deva's Direction is over-the-top. Cinematography is well-done, capturing the exotic locales, perfectly. Editing isn't tight enough. Music by Various Artists is energetic. Action-Sequences are nicely executed.

Performance-Wise: Akshay Kumar shines as Raftaar Singh. He's in good goofy mode, delivering a yet another comedic act. Amy Jackson looks gorgeous & does some serious ass-kicking. Acting wise, she's strictly okay! Lara Dutta is fun to watch. Kay Kay Menon hams as the villain. Rati Agnihotri is cute. Pradeep Rawat is passable. Anil Mange & Arfi Lamba leave a mark.

On the whole, 'Singh Is Bliing' entertains in doses.

Raftaar Singh (Akshay Kumar) .. Fast Moving .. Made it Once Watch at least
sagargaur3 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I like to start with Akshay, I am his big fan. Great Actor. Matured with years. super comedian. Movie all together is a great watch. Perfect timing by all characters. I watched 1st Day 1st Show. Prabhudeva is a great comedy- action Director, no doubt. Prabudeva and Akshay chemistry also work this time. The maximum songs are both in Hindi and English, English conversion is funny. 60% movie is both in English and Hindi. The songs are in Punjabi mixed with Hindi and English. Prabhu sir put one South style song as well. Song is nice but don't go well with punjabi dance. Amy, new comer is great. Nice action by her. Good acting. Lara Dutta add the charm to the movie. No doubt, she is a great actress. Her perfect timing and lovely acting make the movie more funny and watchable. Kay Kay Menon looks too old for the role of a son. Nevertheless, he is a good actor. ArfiLamba and AnilMange played there part in a nice way. Good friends to Akshay and add beauty to the comedy with few nice lines. Script is OK. There is one car chasing scene, hilarious !!! Overall, its a comedy with action pack family movie.

A blatantly lifted comedy that delivers fair entertainment in its first half but nothing at all in the second, following the set format of SINGH IS KING.
bobbysing2 August 2016
Offering nothing new of any sort, this is again a comedy presenting everything with an over the top Punjabi feel, blindly following a foreign source exactly like they did in SINGH IS KINNG.

  • As an individual film of Akshay directed by Prabhudeva –

The initial sequences of SINGH IS BLING do occasionally make you smile, especially the scenes with a lion that are sure going to appeal the kids. A fair amount of entertainment is offered with Amy entering the scene superbly and Lara surprising one and all in her new hilarious avatar. PlusSunny Leone provides the pleasant shock along with Kay Kay having a strange get up (not suiting him at all) speaking in a wicked tone. A series of jokes portraying Akshay Kumar as a comedian (or a silly person) get evenly placed in the film's first hour engaging the viewers partially. But what eventually turns out to be a winner is the stunning action sequence featuring Amy as the beautiful killer just before it says intermission.

In the second half the film starts sinking with simply nothing to say or deliver either in its story content or execution. In fact the moment the team steps into Punjab it all becomes quite dull with the same old 'seen before' sequences reminding you of Akshay's own NAMASTE London. Amy's added plot with her mother falls flat affecting the film badly and only a few deliberately written dialogues (catering the Sikh sentiments) work marginally post interval along with the action.

To be brief, with everything looking clichéd, served with an unexciting soundtrack and many stale jokes, SINGH IS BLING becomes unbearable post interval and overall cannot be rated as something great coming from the stable of Prabhudeva who is not getting into the 'delivering mode' since his last few films. Moreover revealing it as a 'completely copied product' in the next part of the review, I seriously doubt Prabhudeva had really got anything to say of his own as a director in this particular project.

In the performance section, God knows why Akshay Kumar is so determined to present himself playing such ridiculous characters, whereas he can easily carry a fast paced crime thriller much better as per my personal opinion. Yes, the actor has certainly got a terrific comic timing proved many times before, but serving the same in a poor (repetitive) disguise of a funny Sardar purely points towards his greedy profit motive and nothing else. Thankfully this time we have both Amy Jackson and Lara Dutta making a much better impact than Akshay due to their splendid acts. At one end Amy simply wins over the viewers with her gorgeous looks as well as killing instincts and on the other Lara undoubtedly proves to be the surprise package of the film playing the witty translator. The two equally silly friends of Akshay are not able to contribute much with their forced acts and the same can be said about the supporting cast too including the supremely talented Kay Kay Menon (who remains wasted).

Shot at a lavish and colourful scale, SIB's background score is a bit loud, hugely depending upon the Punjabi theme. Yet it was indeed surprising to hear the identical notes of golden oldie 'Sau Baar Janam Lenge" playing in the backdrop in its second hour. In the soundtrack department SINGH IS BLING doesn't have a song that could lead from the front as it was there in SINGH IS KINNG. The OST heavily relies on two borrowed tracks with 'Tung Tung' being a redone version of the original track created by Sneha Khanwalkar in her MTV program of 2012 that also introduced 'Nooran Sisters' two years before they became famous with the HIGHWAY 'Jugni' track.

Besides, "Aaja Mahi" remains a reworked version of RDB group's more than 6-7 years old song that was also performed by Akshay in a Bollywood award function a few years back.

  • As a blatant copy of the Korean film -

Questionably directed by Prabhudeva this is a complete scene to scene lift from the Korean film MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER 3 (2006) as if made by a loyal follower of Korean cinema. Now whether this is an official remake or not, that has not been disclosed. But it better be, since only an official remake can go on adapting the original so shamelessly as seen in SINGH IS BLING.

  • Addressing the Punjabi community -

Watching films like SINGH IS BLING, I am forced to ask a question from my fellow Punjabi (Sikh) community, that often in social networks and in real life too I meet people who feel offended when someone cracks a joke on Sardars with the reference of names like Santa-Banta and more. The feeling of getting offended is not completely wrong if the matter goes beyond control projecting Sikhs as just clowns, laughing at anything and everything like some dumb characters.

But I frankly fail to understand that what happens to those people when the same kind of fun is being made by a known name so bluntly in a Bollywood film? In other words why they don't get offended watching a Hindi film star making fun of their personality on the screen just like it is done in all Santa-Banta jokes. (For reference just check the "Aa Mamma" song with proper bearded Sikhs moving their heads in an idiotic manner sitting behind the romancing Akshay.)

In all, walking on an identical path, SINGH IS BLING is nothing but a similar re-packaged (copied) product made just to earn some quick weekend bucks at the box office. However it still deserves a few extra brownie points in comparison just because of Amy & Lara alone, to give them their much deserving due.

A one time watch for Akshay Kumar fans
superindrajit16 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Akshay Kumar is one of the versatile actors of the Hindi Film Industry. He started receiving more appreciation ever since he did films like Sangharsh(1999), Hera Pheri(2000), Khakee(2004), Garam Masala(2005), Namastey London(2007), Special 26(2013), and Baby(2015). These are not his only noteworthy movies but these stand out the most. Unfortunately, Kumar has done quite a lot of films which did nothing much for him. He acted well in such films but they were very average in terms of content. Singh is Bling(2015) is an addition to the list of the average films Kumar has done. The film is not as bad as the 12 year delayed Akshay Kumar film Hatya(2004). However, it is nothing great.

Singh is Bling has the same done to death plot of a Singh. In fact, Singh is King(2008) did a better job with this typical story. There are some funny moments in the film but they cannot save the film. The first half is still bearable because of some hilarious scenes. However, some of the comedy scenes like Lara Dutta sleep walking is just too stupid. The comedy works in parts in the first half but in the second half, the it gets tiring. There are some good scenes like the mother and son bonding between Akshay Kumar and Rati Agnihotri. However, this does not make the second half watchable. In fact, the second half fails to entertain as much as the first half.

PrabhuDeva has tried really hard but his direction leaves a lot to be desired. His Wanted and Rowdy Rathore were nothing great but they still maintained the entertainment in the second half to an extent. PrabhuDeva's direction is better than the terrible Action Jackson but it is nothing great. The film has not been well edited because post interval, it just drags and it becomes really unbearable.

The film can only be watched once because Akshay Kumar does a good job. He still has the good comic timing and he rises above this mediocre film. As a die hard Akshay Kumar fan, I love watching all his movies but now, I realize that Akshay Kumar deserves better. Even a Gabbar is Back(2015) or a Brothers(2015) is better than a silly Singh is Bling(2015). I know he will continue to do such films as Housefull 3(2016) is on the way. I will continue watching all his movies but I will always like it more when he does a Baby(2015) or a Airlift (2016), his next release.

Amy Jackson looks good but that's about it. The girl just cannot act. In future, she may improve but she is not an actress yet. However, it must be said that she can kick some butt. Her action scenes were amazing. Kay Menon was wasted and his dialogs were ridiculously bad. He overacts and is unbearable as the chief villain here. Rati Agnihotri and Yograj Singh are good as Akshay's parents in the movie. They have their moments. The rest are functional.

The music composed by Sneha Khanwalkar is average. The Cinema Dekhe Mamma song was unnecessary and it's lyrics are crass. Singh and Kaur is a decent song with good beats but it is very repetitive and gets boring. Dil Kare Chu Che is okay and the dance moves by Akshay were funny. However, the song has silly lyrics and is nothing great. The only songs that I liked the most were Tung Tung Baje and Aaja Mahi. They were well shot and the tunes were catchy.

The action which I was looking forward to was not that good. A few of the kicks and punches were good but it was not that real. The action in Gabbar is Back(2015) was better. In addition, the action does not get along that well with Akshay's character. He did not know how to fight throughout the film and suddenly at the climax, he fights well.

On the whole, Singh is Bling is a below average film which has been loved by Akshay Kumar fans. It opened big at the box office but then came crashing down. In the end, it was an average at the box office.

It was okay

Warning: Spoilers
Since this was Akki's movie I have to endure myself till the end. But seems like no one has any idea that this movie is a remake of the Korean movie "my wife is a gangster 3" ... Korean n Chinese mixed. The original movie has got its perfect charms n the comedy timing is perfect too but can't say much about this movie. Try watching the Korean one and compare with this. OK I ain't gonna say much but watch this movie first and then watch the Korean version otherwise if you watch the Korean first n this one 2nd then you will stop watching it after 5 minutes. The Korean version ratings 10/10, singh is bliing 5/10. I gave 5 just for Akki n Amy
