  • There is sexual content includes partial nudity, characters kissing, wearing revealing clothing, and making sexual innuendos.

Violence & Gore

  • In a torture scene, the main protagonist gets his fingers and toes cut off, but all it shows bloody tools. However, no severed fingers or toes are shown.
  • This show is extremely violent, and it gets even more violent towards end of the season. Don't watch it if you're sensitive to things like human torture and violence. It is bearable if you were able to handle Attack on Titan or Re:Zero.
  • In the start of Season 1, you see a corpse pressed against a fish tank (the corpse is covered in blood).
  • Sometimes, when a scene gets too gory, the color ch he's to make it look less graphic. So it's not as bad as it seems
  • Graphic violence throughout of the series, as well as scenes of blood and gore.
  • Excessive violence and scary imagery, as well as disturbing scenes include ghouls, blood, gore, body horror, dead bodies, torture, cannibalism, impalement, dismemberment, and decapitation. It's common to see characters die in a grisly manner with lots of blood sprays and gore.
  • Although most of the episodes are very violent and gory, there are some lighter episodes as well.
  • The anime is about ghouls, which are similar to zombies. They survive through eating the flesh of human beings. However, these ghouls also fight against one another and humans with strong abilities and enforcement, created to combat all ghouls. This had caused the amount of violence to be extremely plentiful.
  • The opening scene depicts a female ghoul eating the bodies of several people she attacked. A man comes up behind her to stop her, and is presumably a ghoul as well by the bloodshot eyes and the mask he is wearing. There is a lot of blood shown, but the bodies are covered by shadows. Just as the man is about to attack the woman, crystalized blood spikes come between them and she gets away.
  • A sheet-covered body is shown in the the street, with blood seeping out from underneath the blanket. It is the body of another person killed by a ghoul, presumably the same woman in the beginning.
  • A boy follows the scent of human flesh and finds another ghoul (1) feeding. It doesn't openly show him eating the body of the human he killed but you can see blood. He offers some to the boy and you hear a tearing noise. Someone (ghoul 2) comes up behind them and kicks the other ghoul (1) in the head. Blood flies and you assume he's been decapitated. A female ghoul (3) enters and her and the 2nd ghoul fight. She cuts him, blood flies, and he runs away.
  • A ghoul shoves a fistful of flesh into another ghoul's mouth to force him to feed.
  • A ghoul was stabbed by another ghoul in his stomach, and the attack was relentless as he continuously pierced the ghoul's chest as well and a lot of blood is seen splashing everywhere.
  • Thinking of nothing regarding someone's privacy, a boy barges into a room without knocking in order to invite the one's inside for an event but discovered that the girl within is feasting on a human's finger. Not much blood is shown here, but the act is really creepy and detailed.

Profanity

  • In the English dub, Language are occasionally, not often. Several uses of "damn", "piss", "hell", "bastard", "crap", "bitch/son of a bitch", "ass". "Shit" was used a couple. 1 use of F-bomb.
  • The English subtitles has many severe language. "Fuck" and "shit" are frequently used. The dubbed version of language is much tamest. This version of dub was edited the strong language to mild/moderate to make the profanity less.
  • Despite bearing of such a terrifying theme, the amount of cursing in the original Japanese version is mild.
  • In the sub, use of words like "fuck", "bitch", "shit", "bastard","ass" and other profanities to heighten the atmosphere.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Kaneki is given sugar cubes that maintain his craving for human flesh.
  • Multiple adult characters are seen smoking and drinking alcohol.
  • The story revolved around the participation of numerous adult characters, and this event has caused the popping up of scenes involving smoking and drinking alcohol.
  • A boy was drugged before he was tortured.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a scene with a girl eating human organs. There is so much blood on the table and the plate, but this scene is shown for a short time. The rest just shows the main character, Kaneki, getting scared and falling back.
  • Ken becomes a ghoul in the first episode, and his eyes are black and red. He has vein marks next to his eyes which is very creepy.
  • A few torture scenes, but the worst one being of a child being forced to murder humans for the ghouls to feast upon.
  • In season 1 episode 4 (Supper) Kaneki is in a room filled with ghouls about to eat him and a giant guy called "The Scrapper" comes in to cut him up and then a ghoul comes behind the scrapper and pulls him apart with a lot of blood showing can be frightening for some viewers
  • The series is filled with moments of extreme brutality, gore, body and psychological horror. The torture of Ken Kaneki is very upsetting and horrific.
  • If this were made into a movie it would be rated R: for strong bloody violent content including torture and body horror, gore, aberrant behavior, and brief nudity.
  • The show is about ghouls who eat people and tear them apart, which can be a frightening concept, so the show has a lot of blood and violence.
  • One of the first things you see is a body being thrown against the side of a fish tank, which is a jump scare.
  • The first fight is between two ghouls and shows blood dripping from the fingers and mouth of a female ghoul, which can be disturbing.
  • The ghouls have red irises and the whites of their eyes are black, which can be creepy.
  • There are many scenes where someone's eyes are wide and bloodshot; the way the screen vibrates and the music is low can make these scenes intense and maybe even disturbing for younger viewers.
  • There is a scene where a boy is trying to eat human food but can't because he is becoming a ghoul; he frequently shoves things in his mouth and vomits. The music and fast-paced screen shots can be intense and disturbing.
  • A boy tries to stab himself with a kitchen knife, but the blade breaks against his ghoul skin.
  • Ghouls fight and hurt each other; blood flies. There is a lot of yelling and bodies get torn apart.
  • The overwhelming psychological effect suffered by a boy is really intense as he is trying to convinced himself of being nothing but a human.
  • The ending scenes of the last episode of season 2 are extremely saddening and are very emotionally intense.
  • There is a sequence of a boy being tortured through different means. There are blood splatters on the floor, and he screams often. The torture itself is barely shown, but it could be considered disturbing and unsettling.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • If you watch the anime on Hulu, or even Funimation, there is a pretty big amount of violence censorship. However, it doesn't make the series unenjoyable. The torture scene in the final episode is removed, and the scenes of ghouls eating human flesh. Also, it still has all of the cool fight scenes.
  • In one scene, one ghoul takes a bite out of another ghoul's shoulder for survival purposes. This might disturb some viewers.
  • A ghoul savagely twists his foot. There is blood, and it's really gross.
  • In the first episode, Kaneki and Rize are walking through an alley when Rize hugs the Kaneki and suddenly bites deep into his shoulder. It turns out she is the ghoul from the opening scene and tries to kill him. She attacks him with her crystalized blood spikes, stabbing him. He spits out blood and she smashes him against a wall, asking if he is dead. Metal beams fall on top of the girl, presumably killing her. There is a lot of blood in this scene.
  • There is a prolonged and terrifying torture scene spanning over a few episodes in which a young man gets his fingers and toes hacked off with a pair of rusty pliers. However, in one scene, he gets a centipede forced into his ear and we then hear what that would sound like. This will scare and shock some viewers.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A woman and her daughter are attacked by some investigators and they kill the young girl's mom, but all you see is the young girl's mom's chest area where she was sliced open and you see blood but nothing further than that.
  • About halfway through one of the final episodes, there is a scene in which a young man is kidnapped from a coffee shop. An extended sequence shows him, as well as a few others, being brutally beaten and thrown around the room. His head is violently bashed against various objects (countertops, tables, glass panels) at least 15 times, all while being mocked by the antagonist. Extremely graphic and disturbing.
  • Very frequently, in numerous episodes of Season 1 and most likely further seasons, many characters are slashed across the eyes. Blood and aftermath is shown.
  • Throughout a couple of episodes near the end of season 1, a main character is seen tied to a chair and is being tortured very gruesomely. At the beginning, bloody scissors, a scalpel, and tools for injecting drugs or taking blood samples. The room is bloody, dark, and quite terrifying.
  • In one scene, while the main character is being tortured, a centipede is put in his ear and the audio soon after is quite piercing, meant to sound like there is a centipede in the viewers ear. Might upset some of the watching.
  • Most season 1 is Kaneki struggling to accept he is now a ghoul and we mainly see him feel psychologically tortured by this fact towards the end of the first season he is tortured physically by Jason
