extraordinary

Astounding in so many ways.

First of all, makes Sopranos, a pioneer in the "new drama" that transformed the very nature of episodic TV, look like a Saturday morning kids show.

The core idea of a man who fixes everyone else's problems but cannot fix his own .. brilliant.

Acting, direction and writing, brilliant.

Interesting also is that Elliot Gould was not in this one at all, not even for a walkon. Gould is excellent but he has played the same one-dimensional character for literally decades. Somehow the absence of Gould elevates an already great episode, and allows the core cast to shine.

Took the writers just over one full season to get us comfortable enough with these people ... to really make us wince when it all comes apart.

Brilliant observing of a totally dysfunctional family
eulchen510 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the best Ray Donovan episodes yet. The writer(s) have brilliantly caught in how unsolved conflicts build up between members of this family, how anger and hurt grow in combination with selfishness and narcissism and now finally the bomb explodes on a forced birthday party for 14-year old Conner. Anybody who comes from a only half-dysfunctional family background will probably find this extraordinarily good. This episode shows why the word family doesn't necessarily mean your blood -related family really is what your family is supposed to be. And what happens over and over again if you don't find the strength to sever ties with such people, family or not. Brilliantly observed by the writers, brilliantly played by the actors, and yes let's be honest, it is a bit unfair that Liev Schreiber doesn't only look and sound good, he can even dance.;)

Happy birthday Conner

Greetings from Lithuania.

"Walk This Way" is the reminder of why i love "Ray Donovan" in first plays: terrific writing, directing (bravo to Liev Schreiber), superb acting. This is a birthday party for the ages. I was laughing from the first idea of this party, and it didn't let me down to say at least. Eventually everything came down to where it should be.

Overall, if you have enjoyed this show so far, "Walk This Way" is just another reminder of how great and sometimes hilariously fun / exciting this show can be.

Can't wait for the last 5 episodes of current season of one of my favorite TV Shows ever.

The man can dance!!
noelleinc7 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Damn this was such a great episode from the get go. I loved watching the family just fall apart in every way possible. And poor Bunchy just sitting there. All around this episode was amazing but that final scene with Conor and Ray...EPIC! The man is beyond good looking and he can dance like nobody's business!

I enjoy the intricacy of the plot lines and the strong acting. The tension builds up and makes you feel uneasy at times. Great writing.

This is Drama

Those House Party scenes were the most awkward bits of television I have ever seen in my life, and that's a huge compliment because that was the purpose of it! Superb television. Just started this show, I am surprised Ray Donovan isn't really as popular as The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad were, but I hope there's more high quality drama like this in the coming seasons.

Currently Binge Watching for its 10th anniversary. Best Episode So Far!
neilgr-7665514 February 2023
The title says it! I'm still watching the series but this may be one of the definitive TV episodes of all time. A confrontational centerpiece which brings together all the conflicts in the series, while still retaining a sense of black comedy...especially when the tension is broken in one particular scene, where it is both uncomfortable & funny, then just plain uncomfortable. This is a series that maturely builds up to a showdown like this, unlike most shows which hit soap opera from episode 1.

And the ending is perfect. Affectionate, wild, and fun. A wide variety of tones (as the series demonstrates consistently) culminating in a masterpiece of a TV episode. Goes to show it was written by Ann Biderman & filmed by Liev Schreiber, which especially makes it definitive.

Happy Birthday Con! One of my favorite episodes of the series.
CHUDMasterPatriot23 August 2021
All the Donovan men are screwed up in the head because of Mickey but Ray is the most sick. He loves and helps everyone but himself. It's sad.

The Donovan Brothers are amazing and love their family so much no matter how dysfunctional they all are.

Big Wow! Great filmmaking on every level. Congrats to Liev for his powerful performance & direction. His dance at the end is a treat that surpasses all the dance moves in movie history.

Best Episode of an Amazing Series!
valgal-9058213 November 2023
Of course it's the episode that Schreiber directed! It's perfect. Shows the intricate and totally screwed up dynamics of the Donovan family and finishes with the best scene in any television series I've seen. From the moment of the first chords of Walk This Way, you know you're about to watch something spectacular. Ray begins with the head bob in rhythm and for the next 30 seconds I can't stop smiling and laughing so hard. I had to rewind several times and rewatch. Thank you Liev and Voight and all the amazing characters that make this series incredible. Third time watching it and still in awe.

Great show - except the typical b* of a daughter
Fargomoviecritic30 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ray Donovan kids have everything and his daughter is another crying little baby. Bridget is annoying and bad things would end up happening to her if she really acted this way. She is annoying and the worst part of the show. Great job Showtime! You have created an annoying character that people wishes would be killed off b/c of her annoyance.

Liev Schreiber IS the show and the last few seconds showed it completely.
ansharora-1263831 July 2020
The ending of the episode was a much needed shake-off after the complex and disruptive episode where the deep seated issues of the family came up and may or may not have destroyed the family once and for all. We won't know until the next episode. Liev Schreiber's character is very much layered and that is a good thing in most tv show characters but eventually here and there their layers open up but Ray's no layer has come up yet which makes his character a little less satisfying and that's why the show is not well rated I think. But will see.
