The crew filmed at Lesya Gongadze's apartments in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Lviv (Ukraine). It also visited Sachkhere in Western Georgia where her husband was born, also interviewing the grandmother of Georgiy Gongadze, then in her 90th.
In 2018 «Mama's Heart. Gongadze» was selected for «Golden Dzyga», known as «Ukrainian Oscar».
Lesya Gongadze died on 30 October 2013 before the film's release. Her death at 4 a.m. coincided with the start of a violent police attack on peaceful pro-European demonstrators in Kyiv which intensified the Revolution of Dignity.
Lesya Gongadze never accepted that the beheaded body found during the investigation into the disappearance of her son, was that of her son's.
Lesya Gongadze kindly hosted the film crew in her apartment in Tbilisi.
