Many of the cast and crew had a difficult time maintaining their composure during the scene involving the talking toilet prototype. Several takes were ruined by people randomly bursting out into laughter every time the toilet spoke.
In keeping with the running theme of the each title in Season 1 ending with the letter "o", the original name for this episode was "Jell-O". However, possible conflicts from using the brand name caused the episode to be renamed "Alpine Shepherd Boy".
The restaurant where Mike (Jonathan Banks) has breakfast in this episode is the same restaurant he frequents during the run of Breaking Bad (2008).
