"The Captain" episode 10/10. Review of the 2nd season: overall 9/10

Greetings from Lithuania.

"The Captain" ends the second season of "Ray Donovan" with as expected some big things. This episode was great, maybe not as good as last episode, but overall a great follow up to that one and great introduction of what to expect in season 3. The stakes are higher than ever, and it will be interesting to watch how (or in this case "if") Ray Ray will come up from this mess.

Overall, season 2 was very good, but not as good as the first one. Thats also understandable, because i think there isn't shows, who's second season is better or at least equal to the first one - probably only "Breaking Bad" was exceptional in this case. Anyway, those who enjoyed the first season will definitely won't be disappointed in second one, it has as usual great acting by everyone involved, great realistic and gritty dialogs, situations as real as they gets. There were couple of coincidences in this season that i found absolutely unbelievable (one is where Kate McPherson watches the movie and spots Mickey's name in the end of the credits - really..? come on...), but overall it wasn't overdone in stuff like that i that is one of the reasons why i love this show - interesting, realistic, not overdone in coincidences / mysteries and revelation greatly acted written and directed. Overall 9/10 for season 2 and will look forward for "Ray Donovan" next year.

Great season, gripping episode.... except for one really stupid flaw

Warning: Spoilers
Come on! If you be a gangsta, man, and you have your homies check everyone who visits your home for weapons.... especially a big bad killa like Ray Donovan.... don't you check the bag full of money that he's bringing you for a weapon? How did Cookie live past his teen years letting his crew make stupid mistakes like that? I can't even let this go without comment for the benefit of the story since there are probably two dozen ways Ray could have snuck a weapon in, or found another way or spot to kill Cookie, without having to rely on Cookie's thugs being that stupid.

Overall, though, Season 2 was a non-stop roller coaster ride---even better than Season 1. Writers did a great job of maintaining a breakneck pace loaded with twists, turns, surprises and suspense. Which makes dropping the ball on a plot device like this all the more glaringly lame.
