I have stopped guessing what's next.. Just keep them coming Homeland
tombombadil115 December 2014
This episode of Homeland has made me sit and wait for the drama which would unfold in the finale of the fourth season.

Forty five minutes of anticipation and it has only been prolonged by one more week, after a cliffhanger which has been shadowing through all the seasons of Homeland.

I really do not want to say anything because then I will be dishing out spoilers. But I am glad that the writers have been doing something which would really fulfill their long term goal to explain all that has been going on in the past seasons. This episode has clearly started the ticking of a clock which will lead to a major blowout.

Quinn goes off the reservation
Tweekums26 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After the overrunning of the US embassy and the subsequent order to leave Pakistan one man decides to stay behind and hunt down the man responsible on his own… Peter Quinn. Carrie won't leave him behind and sets about searching for him. Quinn isn't entirely on his own; he has a friend working at the German embassy and also recruits the former girlfriend of Haqqani's nephew. Having found his target he has a plan to kill him but none to get away; unless Carrie finds him he won't leave Pakistan alive. Away from the main plot Carrie has to deal with the death of her father.

This was another solid episode; it was good to see Quinn taking centre stage as Rupert Friend puts in a fine performance in the role. When the character was first introduced I didn't care for him but he has developed well and as the episode approached its end I was concerned for his safety. Raza Jaffrey also impresses as the ambiguous Aasar Khan; sometimes he is helping Carrie but at others it looks as if he has a different agenda. There isn't much action in this episode but it is still exciting as the tension is raised right until the end.

Thrilling
Abdulxoxo27 September 2020
Imagine an episode that Peter Quinn was Carrie and Carrie was Peter Quinn, well, this episode is it. Carrie is the one who always ignore orders and do what she deems fit and Peter at times, tries to prevent her from her stubborn self. the case is reversed here.

A really good episode, full of suspense and great acting. Homeland always manage to deliver.

unsatisfying and frustrating

Warning: Spoilers
after having to watch for 10 episodes how the entire cast of protagonists is continuously being destroyed and humiliated by the enemy, the taliban and the pakistani's, you'd expect some rewarding moments AT LAST. but no. quinns efforts are blown away by carrie who is untrue to her character in this episode and does, for some reason, for the first time in her life does NOT want to complete the mission. In the end haqani is driven away like a god standing on a vehicle. It makes me wanna smash my television. I hate homeland. If the next (and final) episode does not deliver a satisfying end, it's not worth watching the fifth season in my opinion.

Another predictable episode where losers continue to loss and director trying to up the hype but ending up disappointing.

Not so great episode
jeroen-10615 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After two great episodes, this one was pretty weak.

1 - Why would Carrie try to shoot the bad guy after preventing Quinn to blow the guy up? Even after showing a quick flashback it didn't make sense to me at all.

2 - The demonstration started too soon after they realized the murder-video was released. It didn't feel right... it's impossible to organise a decent demonstration that quickly.

3 - And why would the evil terrorist leave a highly secured building? Because of a demonstration? And why would Quinn know that guy would leave the building?

4 - Why didn't Quinn - an excellent Sniper as he proved before - didn't just shoot the frigging guy when he decided to get out of the car, waving his arms around? That chain of events would have been just as realistic as expecting him to drive away because of a demonstration. And careless of a terrorist who is smart and very much aware of any danger (including drones).

5 - Lazy writing to introduce a new character at this point just to serve Quinn's little quest for revenge. It's just too convenient to have an ex-girlfriend working at the German Embassy around. Come on...

6. - When the girlfriend from that kid who got shot by the evil terrorist is in the protest helping out Quinn, she's not doing anything. She's just protesting. When Quinn mentions 'now it's time', she just walks away. What was she doing there in the first instance? She didn't create the chaos Quinn needed - that just happened.

Disappointing and sloppy writing. Really annoyed because it's confusing to watch after such great episodes.

After a couple of GREAT episodes you might be getting a bad one, just for balance.
Dr_Sagan15 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I really really liked the last 2-3 episodes of "Homeland". Good television. The producers could have continue in the same fashion and build to something GREAT but they chose to do "Krieg Nicht Lieb" instead.

This is an episode about Quinn being 007 or something. It is completely cut out from the dramatic events that took place in the last episode. Mandy Patinkin's character is absent. What happens next for the Ambassador and her husband (2 characters that the show build several exciting subplots), actual reactions from the U.S. government etc.

You only get some, obviously forced, dramatic news, like a personal tragedy for Carrie and the removal (soon) of Lockhart from his position. Plus some naive plot about ...bombing Haqqani in broad daylight and killing dozens of innocents with him.

After a couple of GREAT episodes you get a bad one. Just for balance, I guess.

It continues to surprise on the downside
schatel5 April 2022
I keep hoping for this series to stop nose diving, but instead it goes from worse to worse. Ratchet up the tension, toss in some family drama, set up some incredible coincidences and then let it all deflate yet again so we can go again. Perhaps next season 5 will have a better script, we live in hope!

Exceptional and Well-Rounded
RyanCShowers22 December 2014
"Kreig Nicht Lieb" was next and was a fairly large upgrade from the ridiculous previous episode. Rupert Friend is hit or miss with his acting as Quinn, so I was wary of placing too much expectation on "Kreig Nicht Lieb" knowing Quinn would be the catalyst for the plot. Friend's acting was killer in this episode though, as was the typically arresting Danes. The writing "Kreig Nicht Lieb" was in a lower key of suspense—and for its own good—and the heart-pounding tension still found its way to the surface. This was an exceptional "Homeland" because it was so well rounded; it delivered on the character end, the action impulse and the element of surprise, and it held itself with poise while firing on all of those cylinders.

Grade: A
