- We start in Fairy Tale Land, where Belle's mother is frantically packing things away to flee her city, which is under attack by ogres. Belle wakes from this nightmare and discovers that her mother died.
In Storybrooke, Belle finds Mr. Gold in his shop and tells him Emma needs to see them right away. Emma is showing Regina, Mary Margaret, Elsa, David, Hook, Belle, Mr. Gold and Henry the video she found showing her crossing paths with The Snow Queen when she was younger. Emma can't remember it happening, though. They realize they need to figure out what The Snow Queen is hiding. Henry suggests they look for her ice cream truck. Belle suggests she stay at the library, and Elsa offers to work with her there.
Back in Fairy Tale Land, Belle is trying to remember what happened to her mother. Belle tells her father about creatures who can restore lost memories, but he warns her that "magic always comes with a price" and he doesn't want her to have to pay it. He tells her to forget it and not leave her chamber until the doctors say she's better. After he leaves, Belle vows to find the answer in Arendelle.
Back in Storybrooke, Belle tucks away a map of Arenedelle as Elsa talks about how the library doesn't seem to have anything about it.
In Arendelle, Anna and Elsa talk about Anna's quest to find out what happened with their parents. Elsa also reveals that she's been practicing controlling her powers with some training from The Snow Queen, who she calls her aunt. Anna is surprised at the news that their mother had a sister. Anna goes and tells Kristoff she's wondering if The Snow Queen is up to something. She wonders why The Snow Queen isn't in any family portraits or records. She wants to ask Kristoff's family for some background. She also confides in Kristoff that she didn't tell Elsa that her parents were trying to figure out how to take away her powers. We see that The Snow Queen was listening in on the whole conversation.
In Storybrooke, The search crew finds The Snow Queen's ice cream truck and Emma finds folders in a locked freezer showing that The Snow Queen has been following her since she arrived in this world.
Elsa tearfully tells Belle that no one in town seems to know about her sister or has ever been to Arendelle, and Belle doesn't admit to her that she's been there and met Anna.
We next see Belle outside Arendelle, asking Oaken for help finding the rock trolls. Anna is there and offers to help Belle.
Regina tells Robin Hood she's not sure she can figure out how to reverse the spell on Marian. She urges him to find a way to fall in love with his wife again if he wants to reverse it himself.
Mr. Gold is working alone in the woods and The Snow Queen meets him. He warns her that Emma is on to her, and The Snow Queen says it's all part of Emma's plan. Mr. Gold offers up a deal, but The Snow Queen realizes that he wants something from her. Instead, she warns him to stay out of her way because she has the leverage.
Belle, meanwhile, vows to herself to find Anna.
Back in Arendelle, Belle and Anna bond over having each lost their mother while they head out to look for the rock trolls. They get to the mountain face where they're supposed to climb, and Anna falls. Belle finds the box holding the sorcerer's hat, and Anna doesn't want to explain many details but says she hopes Belle will never cross paths with the man she stole the hat from.
Back in Storybrooke, Mr. Gold walks in as Belle is preparing to find The Snow Queen to fix a mistake she made years ago. Mr. Gold tells Belle he doesn't want her anywhere near The Snow Queen. Belle pulls out the (fake) dagger and, despite Mr. Gold saying he only gave her the dagger because he thought she'd never want to control him, she holds it in front of him and commands him to take her to The Snow Queen.
In the folder from The Snow Queen's ice cream truck, Emma finds a bunch of her school drawings, and finds a card she gave The Snow Queen thanking her for being the family she never had. They also find a piece of paper with hieroglyphs on it.
Belle and Mr. Gold get to The Snow Queen's cave, and Belle says she wants a hat that can strip someone of his or her magical powers. Mr. Gold is intrigued, but wonders why Belle is so interested in helping someone she's never met.
In Arendelle, Anna and Belle get to Pabbie, who gives Belle a stone from which she should brew some tea and drink in order for her memories to return. Anna asks Pabbie about her mother's sister, and he tells her that her mother had two sisters but he was sworn to secrecy about them. Pabbie tells Anna about Helga and Ingrid, her mother's two older sisters. The three girls were quite close until Helga and Ingrid vanished one day, and the royal family wanted the memory erased. Anna takes off and tells Belle she thinks her aunt is up to something.
In Storybrooke, Belle is inside The Snow Queen's cave and uncovers a mirror in which her own reflection talks to her.
Back in Arendelle, a storm approaches as Anna and Belle walk back. Anna thinks The Snow Queen is brewing the storm. A rumble knocks them both down and Belle drops her stone while Anna falls off the edge of the cliff and hangs on for her life. Belle hesitates to save Anna while reaching once more for the stone, which falls and shatters into pieces. Belle finally goes over to Anna, who slips and falls down to the ground, losing consciousness. The Snow Queen shows up and takes the sorcerer's hat box despite Belle yelling from above for her to leave Anna alone.
In Storybrooke, Belle's reflection reminds her about how she chose the stone over saving Anna, and how it wasn't her "most heroic moment." Her reflection says she's a "pathetic coward" and says "the dark one" sees it, too. Belle holds up the dagger and says he gave it to her because he loves her, but her reflection questions whether it's real. Mr. Gold shows up and Belle swings the dagger at Mr. Gold's neck and they're whisked away back to his shop. Belle tells Mr. Gold that the mirror said the dagger was a fake, and she admits that she's the reason Anna is missing. She asks Mr. Gold to forgive her for questioning the dagger. He does and they hug, with Belle telling him she's sorry for keeping a secret from him specially because he'd never keep one from her.
In Fairy Tale Land, Belle gets home and finds her father waiting. He's upset that she left without saying anything. She admits she didn't find what she was looking for. He reveals to her that he knows what happened during the ogre attack. He tells her that her mother stepped in the path of the ogres to save her. She discovers that the ogres are still attacking, and says that there's a wizard who might be able to help. Belle's father doesn't want to get involved in magic, but Belle wants to use her mother's selfless example and summon Rumpelstiltskin.
Mr. Gold and The Snow Queen have a face-to-face confrontation in her cave when Mr. Gold tells her that he does have the leverage she thought he lacked -- he reveals the sorcerer's hat and tells her she's lost her leverage.
Back in Arendelle, Anna wakes up in a cell kept locked by The Snow Queen, who thinks that Anna was going to use the sorcerer's hat to take Elsa's powers. Anna says she wasn't going to use it on anyone, until The Snow Queen attacked her. She reveals that she knows that The Snow Queen and her mother had another sister. Anna asks what happened to her and The Snow Queen says some secrets are best kept that way. The Snow Queen tells Anna that she wants a family that will accept her for who she is, and she tells Anna that she -- Anna -- is the odd one out among the two of them and Elsa.
In Storybrooke, Elsa shows Emma and Hook a book that shows her mother's two sisters. Elsa also reads the scroll, which says Emma is the savior and "the savior will become Ingrid's sister." Belle gets to the station and tells Elsa she's been keeping a secret and that she does know Anna and that The Snow Queen kept her years ago. But Belle goes on to tell them about The Snow Queen's mirror, which can help her cast a spell that would make everyone in Storybrooke turn on one another. Emma realizes that she and Elsa would be safe because she'd want to keep three of them together.
