- In the aftermath of the Snow Queen's curse; Emma looks for a portal so Elsa, Anna and Kristoff can return to Arendelle, Regina makes a difficult choice, and Gold's quest for power reaches a dramatic conclusion.
- Just like that, the ice wall The Snow Queen built around Storybrooke is destroyed by Elsa. But the magic is still there blocking the boundary. Elsa needs to find a way back to Arendelle, which has been conquered by Hans and his brothers.
Mr. Gold seems concerned that Anna is still "running around town," and Killian realizes that Anna knows what Mr. Gold is up to with the dagger. Mr. Gold sends Killian out to keep an eye on Anna, but vows to crush his heart later. Mr. Gold says he'll eventually show Belle the world, which is what she's always wanted. Back in the fairy tale world, we see Mr. Gold as Rumplestiltskin handing Belle a gauntlet to clean. He says its magic is that it can reveal anyone's weakness.
Marian is brought back to life and tells Regina that she knows Robin Hood is in love with her and that Regina's in love with him. She says she'll step out of the way.
Looking for a portal to the fairy tale world, Mr. Gold takes Killian to the sorcerer's house and finds one.
Henry brings the book to Belle, who asks him to call her "Belle" instead of "grandma." Henry climbs up to get Belle another suitcase and the gauntlet falls down. Belle is surprised to see it.
Back in the fairy tale world, Rumple is tired of Belle's questions about what he's missing in his life, so he snaps his fingers and she's back outside hanging clothes on a clothesline. She sees a dalmatian puppy and follows it into the woods for a moment -- before she's grabbed from behind and taken away.
Killian comes and tells Emma about the portal. But it's really Mr. Gold talking to her through Killian's heart.
In the fairy tale world, Rumple goes looking for Belle gets a message through an amulet from Belle saying he needs to bring the gauntlet or she'll be killed.
Robin Hood tells Regina he chooses her, then he shows her the image of them from the fairy tale book page that was torn out, showing the two of them kissing. Suddenly, Marian -- who was standing around a pond with Robin's son -- collapses and her face starts to freeze. Regina says there might be some of the spell still in her. She suggests the only way to save her might be to take her out of town. And that means Marian and Robin could never come back.
Mr. Gold and Regina have a chat about why Henry's been around the shop lately. She tells him that he was looking for her "happy ending," but that villains don't get happy endings. He tells her he's going to take his own happy ending. Regina prepares Marian, Robin and their son to cross the town line. Marian and her boy go, but Robin stays behind to give Regina a final kiss with a tearful goodbye before backing across the line. Regina takes the page from the book of their kiss and tears it up.
Rumple, who is not very happy, shows up with the gauntlet and finds Maleficent waiting for him. With a spell, he grabs her and threatens to kill her, but she's not alone. The Sea Witch sends out some tentacles to grab Belle by the throat. And our steps Cruella De Ville. Rumple continues the threats, but The Sea Witch starts to crush Belle and Rumple relents, tossing the gauntlet. The trio vanishes and Belle is pushed back into Rumple's arms. She's confused as to why he cares about her enough to give it up.
Anna and Elsa come to the portal in the sorcerer's house and say some goodbyes. Elsa and Kristoff step through first, but before Anna walks through, she cheerily stops and asks who Mr. Gold -- who seems great and helpful -- is in the fairy tale world. David tells her he's Rumplestiltskin and she freezes. Emma wants to know why Mr. Gold was playing them.
We see Mr. Gold preparing to crush Killian's heart in a dramatic ritual in the clock tower involving the sorcerer's hat, but Emma and Mary Margaret walk in. Mr. Gold freezes them, but he can't crush Killian's heart and he doesn't know why. Suddenly, Belle appears behind him, holding the dagger and saying that she's commanding him not to crush the heart. She commands him to unfreeze Emma and Mary Margaret, which he does. She commands him to give back Killian's heart, which he does, then says he needs to get them to the town line so they can be alone for what happens next. He does. Mr. Gold begs her to put the dagger down, but she doesn't. She tells him she found the gauntlet in his shop and realized that he'd never give up power for her. He insists that he can change, but she says it's too late. She commands him to leave Storybrooke, backing him toward the town line. He says he's afraid, and he cries after he's backed over the line and can no longer see her on the other side of it.
In Arendelle, Anna and Elsa have their big hug before Anna's wedding and that seems to close the book on the "Frozen" crossover.
Emma jams Killian's heart back into his chest, then she meets Regina at the diner and offers to be her drinking buddy. Henry shows up to tell them "something big." It's a secret door to a library full of blank versions of the fairy tale book. Regina thinks he might have found the author's house. Regina tells Emma about "Operation: Mongoose," in which she and Henry were looking for the author.
It's six weeks later and we see Mr. Gold walking through New York City and eventually meeting Ursula, The Sea Witch, who has a job feeding fish in an aquarium. He wants to work together with her to find the author who can change their story. But they have two more stops to make.
