- The true life story of Rick Smiciklas a successful purveyor of chicken wings, who turned $100 into a 100 store chicken wing chain , only to lose it all.
- The show follows the incredible true-life story of Rick Smiciklas, aka "THE WINGMAN," a successful purveyor of chicken wings, who turned $100 into a 100 store chicken wing chain, only to lose it all to his staff of misfits. In the first episode, he announces a significant milestone, the opening of his 100th chicken wing restaurant. With the same breath and consistent with his nature, he then decides to tell his franchisees that he will be shifting gears and playing himself in a fictitious mockumentary for a change of pace. The show was influenced by the incredible events surrounding his personal life.
- After selling his chicken wing franchise, Rick Smiciklas decides to tap into the entertainment industry with his acting debut. It's important to know the man in the show, because ... he's in the show. He is "The Wingman" in his own show, WingMen. The show is as much of a mystery as the man pulling the strings because the premise is hard to nail down. WingMen shapeshifts from season to season. Each season could be its own series! In fact, described as a trilogy. Rightfully so. The story from one season completely disappears in the next. What makes it interesting is that the format changes too! Without warning, the life of the characters rapidly twists and turns. Characters enter and exit, abruptly. The show is fast-paced and frenetic in Season 1. It bounces around between Rick's friends, a boisterous bunch of castoffs. These loud-mouthed wise guys are hilarious together. They throw out zingers left and right off the tip of their tongues. Dynamic situations and crude jokes make for hilarious television. You feel for Rick. He is so in deep with these guys that he even drives his driver. Mild Ricky, the driver, is just as inept as Franco, a man who is continually running Rick's businesses into the ground. The comedy allows you to really engage with these misfits. Eventually, you feel for them when things go south. "You're not a drug dealer," the witless bimbo asks. "I'm workin' on it." The show mostly consists of a cast of middle-aged men with beautiful bombshells sprinkled into the mix. A lot of the attention is given to the women in the show because they are the objective goals the men are striving for in life. When the women enter the scene in the second season, the world of the show becomes a little cartoony. The unassuming Johnny Kim is roped into so many sexual circumstances you think he might die of confusion. Mickey becomes the shows focus, and the money becomes the show's story. The second season dabbles in the weird and outrageous. We follow new characters who thrive on dramatic dynamics. WingMen is more a show about the "who" than the "what." There's no need to get swallowed in the storyline. Simply enjoy the screwballs on the prowl. As easily as we become acquainted with Rick's intimate feelings on life and friendship in Season 2, we lose Rick's presence in Season 3. WingMen shifts again. Without giving too much away...Season 3 centers around Mitch Wolfe, the Executive Producer of the show . Mitch casts himself as Ricks replacement , he is a character who represents a commentary on the Hollywood scene. The superficial perception of everything bad about Hollywood comes out through his character. In WingMen and in real life , Mitch is an executive producer whose sole function is to take the show to a new, entertaining, moral low. His pants come down, the women are turned off, but he remains his sleezy self and doesn't bat an eye. Forever smiling, you eventually realize that he may be a broken man on the inside. There is a nostalgic magnetism in the true reality show format, but WIngMen throws us for a loop. The characters are a lovable group of troublesome playboys. They light up the screen, and you wonder what they will do next. In the end, it's a show based on the exploits of the characters referred to as wingmen.
