In his encounter with Rodrigo outside the concert hall, Thomas says "All the world's a stage," quoting Shakespeare's As You Like It. Later, after the concert, he reconciles with his former lover Cynthia. Only then does he finish the Shakespeare quote: "And all we men and women are merely players." By "players," Shakespeare meant actors, but it works equally well to describe the musicians of the orchestra.
