This is another fight that’s awfully close due to the fact that Scorpion and Ghost Rider have such a similar power set that it’s believed that neither of them can really hurt each other in a permanent way. There are plenty of fans that are going to lean heavily toward Scorpion’s side simply due to the fact that he is an undead ninja and has a bevy of powers at his command, which do make him a formidable opponent without a doubt. But discounting the Ghost Rider is a really bad idea since the devil’s bounty hunter is essentially a

Even though Chloé Zhao has gone out of her way to explain how much of a comic book nerd she actually is, when it was announced that the Oscar-winning filmmaker was going to helm Marvel Studios’ massive blockbuster, “Eternals,” film fans were confused. The Recording Academy announced Wednesday the introduction of an inclusion rider for production on the 2022 Grammy Awards telecast, a step to ensure that the production staff on the ceremony will be diverse at all levels of the show’s production.
The inclusion rider, which generally offers provisions to insure that a film or TV production’s hiring of cast and crew will be equal and diverse and draw from a wider pool, is in development now between the Recording Academy and Color of Change and is part of the Recording Academy’s larger #ChangeMusic campaign.
The rider will be an agreement between the Recording Academy and the production company for the Grammys, which will become the first major awards show to implement one. It will require the production company to audition, recruit and hire from a diverse pool for both onstage and offstage talent who have been historically and systematically excluded from the industry.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures Television has acquired Faust, the superhero horror comic book from writer David Quinn and artist Tim Vigil, to develop as an animated series. Godkiller writer Matteo Pizzolo will write the adaptation under his first-look deal with Spt.
Released by Quinn and Vigil’s Rebel Studios in 1987, Faust follows John Jaspers, a tormented vigilante who sells his soul in exchange for super powers and must then rise against Mephistopheles to rescue his lover Dr. Jade DeCamp and win back his soul.
Comic’s creators Quinn and Vigil will serve as consulting producers on the adaptation, with Black Mask Entertainment’s Brian Giberson executive producing.
Faust was a deconstructed superhero comic contemporaneous with Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns and The Crow. The first issue sold over 100,000 copies, with later issues averaging 50,000. Kamen Rider may not have the international recognition of Godzilla — yet. But Toei, whose first “Kamen Rider” live-action TV series aired in 1971, has announced an ambitious project for raising the profile of its motorbike-riding, insect-faced cyborg hero both at home and abroad on the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
Unveiled in April at a splashy live press conference in Tokyo, the project is headlined by a new film, “Shin Kamen Rider,” directed by Anno Hideaki, the creator of the Evangelion sci-fi franchise and the scriptwriter and co-director of the 2016 smash “Shin Godzilla.” Details about the film, including story and casting, are still sparse, though Toei has penciled in a March 2023 release date.
When Variety met project producer Shirakura Shin-chiro at Toei’s Tokyo headquarters, he reaffirmed that his aim was to make “entertainment that viewers can enjoy,” while “targeting a wide demographic.” This is hardly the first time Toei has courted...

It is hard to know where to begin and what to say first when it comes to Dennis Hopper, both on screen and off. As an actor he began in the late 50s with small roles in films like Rebel Without A Cause (1955) and numerous TV performances. James Dean was a hero and friend to Hopper. A great way to view Rebel Without A Cause is to watch Hopper’s intense studying of and admiration for Dean on screen in that film. Hopper was witness to so many periods of American culture, a complex masculine figure much like his friend and contemporary Harry Dean Stanton, the whiskey, cigarettes and American highway mythology follows his legacy. This mix scratches the surface of an iconic figure of 20th-century popular culture and a great artist, it is a time capsule with no linear trajectory, bending back and forth across genre and feeling.Coming...

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers.
We still don’t know how much of an antagonist John Walker – the new Captain America – will be on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So far, Wyatt Russell’s Walker seems like a guy trying to do the right thing, and a decent enough fella, although his final interaction with Sam and Bucky at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2 hints at a darker side. Still, he isn’t what we would exactly call a villain
And while we do know that Helmut Zemo will be popping up in the next episode, right now the biggest threat is the Flag-Smashers, a terrorist group who feel that Earth was better in-between Thanos snapping out half of the population and Hulk snapping them back in. The existence of a pro-Thanos terrorist group does make me wonder if...

It’s about time. For the first time in its nearly hundred-year history, the Oscars have nominated a pair of female filmmakers in its Best Director category, with both Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell earning nominations for their films “Nomadland” and “Promising Young Woman,” respectively. Both filmmakers also received screenplay nominations for their films, and each feature landed on the list of eight nominees for Best Picture.
In the Academy Awards’ 93-year history, only five women have ever been nominated for Best Director: Lina Wertmüller (1976′s “Seven Beauties”), Jane Campion (1993′s “The Piano”), Sofia Coppola (2003′s “Lost in Translation”), Kathryn Bigelow (2009′s “The Hurt Locker”), and Greta Gerwig (2017′s “Lady Bird”). This year marks the first time the Academy handed out nominations to not just one woman in the category, but two. Zhao also becomes the first woman of Asian descent to pick up the nom.

What happens when a Cold War-era superweapon considered lost decades earlier suddenly reappears, throwing the life of the man who rediscovered it into utter chaos? That’s the hook behind Awa’s new thriller Chariot, launching next year.

Chloe Zhao’s “Nomadland” is poised to be named Best Picture at next year’s Oscars, if you track the very early momentum for the bleak meditation on America’s disenfranchised citizens. A pair of nominations at New York’s Gotham Awards on November 12 for Best Picture and Best Actress (Frances McDormand) comes after the film already won the Audience Award at the virtual Toronto Film Festival—a sure-fire indication that you have the inside track to take it all, judging by past winners “Green Book,” “12 Years a Slave” and “The King’s Speech”—and the top prize at the Venice Film Festival have paved the way for the Hollywood elite to anoint the film.

November can be a slow month for streaming services. Amazon, however, is entering into 2020’s penultimate month with some steam.
Amazon is really beefing up its TV library in November 2020. Both Community (which arrives on Nov. 8) and Scrubs (Nov. 14) will be added to Amazon Prime this month and in the process complete the streaming trifecta: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu. That’s pretty impressive stuff for both shows. And then on the film side of things, November 1 sees the arrival of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Twilight, and the Underworld franchise. Somebody didn’t tell Amazon Spooky Season was over and bless them for it.
As for the originals, Alex Rider is the most intriguing TV series here. That is based on the British spy novel series and premieres on Nov. 13 on IMDb TV (which is available to all Prime subscribers). That will be followed by Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series on Nov.

“Mulan! Take control of yourself!” These shouts greet young Mulan as she runs and leaps across her village, attempting to catch a wayward chicken. Set during the time of China’s Han Dynasty, Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated favorite Mulan is, in many ways, a film about characters attempting to control gender roles, internal conflict, and even warfare. Control, of course, is an element completely lost as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the world of cinema is no exception. Disney realized this after moving the film from its original July release date to another in August, and then, finally, to its Disney+ streaming service.
While watching Mulan at home, it is almost impossible not to wonder what the experience would have been like on the big screen. An ambitious, large-scale epic directed by Whale Rider’s Niki Caro, Mulan is without question a well-made success. Yet...

Continuing my trawl of picking up books I haven’t checked in on in a long while, I have found myself with issue 33 of The Avengers. Couple of reasons I chose this. One, I’ve loved The Avengers for over 40 years now, having a near complete run from the late 1970’s to the late 1980’s, The Avengers heyday. Two, it both features Moon Knight, a character I’ve a lot of time for, and seems to be the beginning of a major storyline revolving around Moon Knight, The Age of Khonshu. Looks promising. One quick observation though. Like at least a few other readers I’m guessing, I’ve been out of the loop on this book, so have no idea on current members, recent events etc. It would have been helpful to give a decent text piece...

Marvel Studios have had the rights to Ghost Rider since 2013, but they’ve seemingly had little interest in rebooting the character as part of the McU. The Robbie Reyes version showed up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4, with star Gabriel Luna initially set to return to the role in a spinoff show on Hulu, but that got the axe last year.
Still, the rumor mill surrounding the beloved antihero has been running at full speed, especially following the news that Keanu Reeves might be in talks to play the character. Kevin Feige has already told fans that the studio speaks to the actor for just about every project that they make, and Reeves’ screen persona makes him the perfect choice to bring the McU’s Ghost Rider to life.

This spoiler-free Alex Rider review is based on episodes 1-4.
For UK kids born after 1990, and parents and teachers of the same, Anthony Horowitz’s bestselling Alex Rider books need no introduction. School libraries keep multiple spine-cracked, Sellotape-repaired copies. ‘Stormbreaker’ posters decorate classroom walls, and in schools around the country, tie-in ‘Scorpia’ key stage worksheets are photocopied by the hundredweight. Booksellers asked by customers how to entice a young, reluctant, usually male reader into fiction don’t even wait for the question to end before plucking an Alex Rider off their shelves. When Harry Potter has done all he can, reach for Alex.
For everybody else, the Rider books tell the phenomenally popular story of a 14-year-old London schoolboy recruited by MI6 as a spy. Armed with comically age-appropriate gadgets including metal-dissolving acne cream, a grappling hook disguised as a yo-yo, and a Sony Discman that turns into a circular saw,...

It’s no secret at this point that Marvel has been trying to get Keanu Reeves in the McU for some time now. Studio president Kevin Feige has even admitted that they talk to him for almost every new project that they have. But despite the actor starring in countless action and blockbuster movies, he’s yet to appear in a superhero film, save for Constantine in 2005.
Two weeks ago, however, we reported that Reeves is in talks to play Johnny Blaze Aka Ghost Rider in the McU. And while nothing is set in stone just yet, and the two parties are only in talks, we can at least get some idea of what he could look like as the character thanks to the awesome new fan trailer above.
As you can see, it features footage from the first Ghost Rider movie starring Nicolas Cage as well as the character...

Diversity-focused nonprofit Gold House is launching an entertainment advisory council made up of industry leaders and a Golden Rider initiative to incentivize diverse representation in film, starting with the Asian diaspora. Both the council and rider are through the organization’s #GoldOpen venture, which supports the opening weekends of multicultural films.
The council — whose members include Albert Cheng, Abhijay Prakash, Kim Yutani (Sundance Film Festival) and Franklin Leonard (The Black List) — will advise on which films will receive #GoldOpen support in the form of theater buyouts for screenings, social media and press campaigns and global distribution opportunities. Movies that have received such support since the venture’s inception in 2017 include “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Parasite” and “Just Mercy.”
In an announcement, the organization stated that #GoldOpen films will need to sign the Golden Rider, an educational agreement that acknowledges the significance of multicultural audiences.

If you're a fan of Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Punisher) I've got a trailer for a new film of his that you've gotta check out. It's called Sweet Virginia and it looks like a wickedly intense and brutal thriller. The movie also stars Christopher Abbott (Girls), Imogen Poots (Green Room), and Rosemarie Dewitt (Poltergeist).
The movie follows two outsider-type strangers that start up a friendship that seems to go very bad as a wave of violence in the community in which they reside begins. It looks like Bernthal gives an incredible performance and I'll definitely be checking the movie out!
A mysterious stranger sends shockwaves through a close-knit community in this nerve-jangling slice of raw suspense. In the wake of a triple murder that leaves the residents of a remote Alaskan outpost on edge, tightly wound drifter Elwood (Christopher Abbott) checks into a motel run by Sam (Jon Bernthal...

A zombie film set on the battleground of World War I? That sounds like the kind of movie I'd enjoy! Today we have a trailer for a film called Trench 11 that centers around that setting and it actually looks a lot better than I was expecting and I'm excited to watch it. Trench 11 could end up being a really fun flick! Here's the synopsis:
In the final days of Wwi a shell-shocked tunneller must lead an Allied team into a hidden German base...100 hundred feet below the trenches. The Germans have lost control of a highly contagious biological weapon that turns its victims into deranged killers. The Allies find themselves trapped underground with hordes of the infected, a rapidly spreading disease and a team of German Stormtroopers dispatched to clean up the mess. The only thing more terrifying than the Western Front... is what lies beneath it.

Christopher Abbott essentially has two modes: Intense, and way more intense. The former “Girls” star, whose blooming career is still often seen as a response to his brief time on (and tumultuous exit from) that epochal HBO show, has spent the last few years playing one brooding knuckle-dragger after another, like he’s trying to rid himself of whatever cooties Lena Dunham may have left behind.
From “James White” to “Katie Says Goodbye,” the Greenwich, Ct native seems exclusively drawn to characters who could punch a wall at any moment — you can’t take your eyes off the guy, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that he picks his roles by imagining what might happen if Marlon Brando’s Stanley Kowalski walked off the screen and started wandering through the modern indie landscape.

Production has started over in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on the upcoming Wwi war horror flick Trench 11. We have our first look at the film's lead, Rossif Sutherland (River), of the Clan Sutherland, decked out in Canadian military garb, ready to get at whatever he finds behind enemy lines. Military horror films are plentiful. Having one of our own, as Canadians, is a good thing. We wonder what our filmmakers and talent will bring to this sub-genre that will set it apart from the rest. We shall politely wait and see. ★★☆☆☆ First-time filmmaker Jamie M. Dagg directs Rossif Sutherland in this Canadian crime-thriller as American volunteer and doctor John Lake, whose residency at a Laos hospital is cut short after disobeying his superior. He later encounters a sexual assault on a local beach and intervenes, which leads to staggering and life-altering consequences as he attempts to reach the Thai border. River begins with Lake constructing a patient leg amputation, confirming from the get-go that this is a rebellious, no-holds-barred American that we are dealing with here. Its lead actor derives from a long line of acting royalty most notably brother Kiefer and father Donald, who remains one of cinema's most commendable and cult veteran actors.

This review was originally published during Fantastic Fest 2015. River is now available on VOD.
Good intentions can backfire, and a vacation can be hell. These are lessons learned in Jamie Dagg’s feature debut River, which he wrote and directed. The film feels real enough to be a true story, which it isn’t, and that makes it even stronger.
Dr John Lake (Rossif Sutherland) is sent on a vacation by his superior after he tries extremely hard to resurrect a trauma patient during surgery. He travels to Laos where he speaks very little Thai, and on a very drunk evening encounters two douchebag Australians getting two local ladies rather intoxicated. After intervening, John stumbles upon one of the guys on his way walking home. As children, we are often taught that, when someone is in trouble, we should try to help, or if someone is being bullied, we should intervene. But sometimes, there can be unforeseen consequences that would endanger ourselves. Jamie M. Dagg's first feature film, River, takes this endangerment to the extreme in a taut and exciting, if somewhat narratively sparse thriller. The first North American film to be shot in Laos, it uses its location to great advantage as it follows one man's desperate run from the authorities. John Lake (Rossif Sutherland) is an American doctor working at an Ngo clinic in Vientiane. With stress taking its toll, he goes on holiday to the south, where he can sit in the sun and drink to his...

Jacob Tremblay has taken over this awards season, and now he has a "Candy" to go along with it.
Last night at the Canadian Screen Awards, host Norm MacDonald proposed that the trophy should now be named the "Candy" in honour of Canadian comedy legend, John Candy. It was definitely an appropriate suggestion, and the first to go along with it was nine-year-old Room star, Jacob Tremblay, who continued to win all of our hearts, especially after beating out the likes of Christopher Plummer and Rossif Sutherland, for the Best Actor in a Leading Role trophy for playing Jack in Room.
Room swept the night, as it also took home Best Picture, Best Director for Lenny Abrahamson, Best Actress forBrie Larson, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Emma Donoghue. The film was a Canadian/Irish co-production, which also saw much love from the Oscars, where it was nominated for Best Picture,...
