Run of the Mill Episode

In this next to the last episode of the series, it's pretty old hat. You've got your psycho of the week, some semi-clad women, a deadline, and a bit of pretty extreme forensics. Stokes is the focus here as he is trying to recover the daughters of the head of the CSI in San Diego. I think the problem for me was that the bad guy wasn't convincing enough. Well, let's see how it all wraps up.

Hope this isn't the ending (SPOILER WARNING)

Warning: Spoilers
Kinda sad to realize that this may have been the very end of CSI, but if this was it, they went out right. I was so worried the entire time that they were going to kill Stokes - that seems to be the thing to do on every TV show since 2000, and at this point that doesn't shock or stir emotion, it just feels contrived...so great job of not falling in line with everybody else on that matter.

On a side note, I loved that they used Brooke Candy's "Opulence" over that long establishing shot of the city that leads into the scene where Lexi picks out a dress for her sister - that song just screams "big city" and "shopping" to me!

The Daughters of the Director of the San Diego Crime Lab
claudio_carvalho1 January 2024
The teenage sisters Lexi and Cara go to a mall, where Lexi uses her father's credit card to buy new clothes for her sister. Then they meet Lexi's boyfriend Axel and his friend Pete. Lexi leaves her sister with Pete and hangs out with Axel. Soon Pete is found dead with a slashed throat bend over a toilet that drained his blood. His cell phone shows a picture of Cara and him, and Sara sees a bag from a shopping. The CSIs find out that the girls used the credit card of John Nolan, who is the responsible for the Crime Laboratory in San Diego. Nick knows him since he invited Nick to work in San Diego years ago, and John explains that he is in Las Vegas for a wedding. The surveillance camera shows Axel, who was arrested for many crimes including drug trafficking and kidnapping, and they bring him to the police station. However, he has an alibi and is released. Morgan locates Lexi and Cara's cell phones and they find that they were dumped in the desert. However, there is a footage of the criminal filmed by Lexi. Soon they find Lexi's body in a dumpster, and Nick promises John Nolan that they will save Cara.

"Under My Skin" is the great penultimate episode of CSI, with a great story of madness and obsession. The plot is well-written, and it seems that the fate of Nick is decided in this show. His decision to save Cara's life from her kidnapper is excelente. My vote is eight.

I wanted to blame the director, but...

Warning: Spoilers
Definitely not one of the best episodes from the acting standpoint. Early on, I wondered if maybe there was a guest director from daytime soaps or something. The acting and writing just didn't sit right with the norm. Guess we'll have to blame it on the moon or sun-spots or ??

Nope. I wasn't too far off. Apparently, a couple of the actors are actually from the daytime serial-dramas. Either the directing was unduly influenced by their presence or, just maybe, there was a conscious decision made to adjust things a little so the daytime audience wouldn't be led to expect better acting on the soaps. hmmm.

Still, though the acting here was not bad enough to wreck the memories of everything before it, there will be a negative impression. I'm looking forward to the possible return to excellence next time.

Nick's not going to stick around? Maybe it's time for another spin-off to So Cal? CSI San Diego? Could be time to cue the Simon brothers. They'd probably make good consultants for Nick in his new role, right?
