Kelly Reilly made a lot of heads turn and jaws drop as Beth Dutton on Yellowstone. The British actress really took the character written for her and made it her own. In doing so, Reilly managed to leave a lasting impression in the minds of fans, throughout the five seasons of the show.
Playing Dutton was no easy feat for the star. However, as an artist, she let another extremely popular character from a timeless classic inspire her: Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth.

Screen finance company Great Point Media has appointed administrators following the death of its founder, Jim Reeve
Great Point Media, which was founded by Reeve and Robert Halmi in 2013, has invested in films including “Asteroid City,” “Lady Macbeth” and “Blue Jean,” among other projects. Its last available accounts, filed in Jan. 2023, reported a turnover of £20 million ($25 million).
Halmi stepped down from the company in 2018, although stayed on as as non-exec chair at Reeve’s request, before going on to found a separate entity called Great Point Studios.
At the time of his death, Reeve was the majority shareholder in Great Point Media. His shareholding transferred to his wife, Laura, an agent for film and TV crew, following his sudden death in February at the age of 64. Reeve’s cause of death has not been disclosed.

At the beginning of David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of "Dune," Princess Irulan (Virginia Madsen) narrates directly to the camera, laying out the mythology of Frank Herbert's psychedelic universe as concisely as she can. She talks about the Pashisah Emperor Shaddam IV, the valuable spice Melange, the planet Arrakis, the Fremen, and the foretold coming of a Messiah. "A beginning," she says, "is a very delicate time." Her sentiment is reflected by the filmmakers, who have their work cut out for them visualizing everything Irulan talks about.
In Denis Villeneueve's 2024 adaptation of the same text -- "Dune: Part Two" -- Princess Irulan is played by Florence Pugh, and she, too, finds a beginning to be a very delicate time. One of the first times audiences see Irulan in Villeneueve's version, she is likewise dictating the events of the film, this time into a strange cylindrical dictaphone. Chicago – One of the great perks of entertainment reporting is the encounter with a movie pro earlier in the year who eventually gets nominated for an Oscar. Last year it was “The Daniels” (eventual Best Director winners) and this year it’s the odds-on favorite for Best Costume Designer, Holly Waddington of “Poor Things.”
British native Waddington – who appeared at the 2023 Chicago International Film Festival – describes her early journey in the Podtalk below, and in her career she has moved up the ladder in her chosen field with costume work on such films as “Happy Go Lucky,” “First Night,” “War Horse” and “Lincoln.” She was Costume Designer on “Lady Macbeth” and TV’s “The Great,” where she worked with Tony McNamara, the co-writer of “Poor Things.”

If there is one actress in the film industry that perfectly embodies what it is like to be a true talent, it is Florence Pugh. Since the very beginning of her career, she has been turning the heads of the critics in the best ways possible becoming the center of attention as nothing but an extra.
Versatility is one of her strongest suits, dominating the indie-film genre, while simultaneously starring in some of the biggest films of all time.

Renowned for her versatility and captivating performances, actress Florence Pugh has become one of the most remarkable performers in Hollywood. And as much as she loves acting and bringing new characters to life on-screen, Pugh fully enjoys her time on the film sets as well, as the actress has shared that she prefers to rest while surrounded by the crew rather than relapsing to her trailer.

British actress Florence Pugh made a name for herself in the movie industry with projects like Little Woman, Midsommar, Lady Macbeth, and, of course, one of her most famous movies, Oppenheimer. Her talent in acting is beyond compare, as she molds herself into her characters, becoming a part of the role she portrays. Last seen in the Christopher Nolan flick as Jean Tatlock, opposite Cillian Murphy, albeit in a short role, Pugh managed to wow audiences.

Guy Pearce has recently wrapped production on “Inside,” an Australian crime thriller and coming of age drama film. The picture is the debut feature of Charles Williams, whose short film “All These Creatures” won the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
The story sees after a young man transferred from juvenile to adult prison, where he is taken under the wing of both Australia’s most despised criminal, and a soon-to-be-a-paroled inmate. A paternal triangle grows between them, suggesting that even the worst of men may have a little bit of good inside them — that will be their eventual undoing.
The cast is headed by Pearce, Cosmo Jarvis and newcomer Vincent Miller. Supporting actors include Toby Wallace, Tara Morice, Chloé Hayden (“Heartbreak High”) and Michael Logo (“Colin From Accounts”).

Chicago – One of the great “characters” in Yorgos Lanthinmos excellent new film “Poor Things” is undoubtably the costumes that Bella (Emma Stone) wears. The costume designer behind those works of art is Holly Waddington, and HollywoodChicago.com talked to her at the Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff) in October.
“Poor Things” begins with Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), a doctor whose procedures are revolutionizing operations in the early 1900s. When a pregnant woman (Emma Stone) attempts suicide by throwing herself in a London river, Godwin fishes her out, takes her baby’s brain, transplants into the distraught woman’s body, re-animates her Frankenstein-style, and raises her as an experiment … renaming her Bella. Godwin recruits his student Max (Ramy Youssef) to observe and record her as she develops her new consciousness, and the hapless man-boy falls in love with her. Are disaster movies about climate change getting more realistic, or is the real world simply starting to resemble a disaster movie about climate change? To judge by Mahalia Belo’s “The End We Start From,” a despairing and all-too-conceivable thriller in which an unnamed woman (Jodie Comer) struggles to protect her newborn baby after a massive flood makes the whole of England go a little “Children of Men,” the answer to that question is regrettably “both.” Ah, how I long for the days when a Hollywood blockbuster about Jake Gyllenhaal trying to survive a now-routine New York weather system was marketed as a piece of escapism.

Plot: Eileen (Thomasin McKenzie) is a depressed young woman living a dreary existence in 1960s Boston. She’s stuck taking care of her cruel, alcoholic father (Shea Whigham) while working as a secretary in a boys’ prison. Her life changes when the prison’s new psychiatrist turns out to be an alluring young woman (Anne Hathaway), unlike anyone Eileen has ever met.
Review: Based upon the above synopsis, one might expect this to be a companion piece to Todd Haynes’ excellent Carol, which told a period love story between two women shackled by their repressive era. Eileen isn’t that movie. You would not call Eileen Dunlop “innocent.” A twentysomething with a little college under her belt — even if she’d hadn’t dropped out when her mom died, she still would have become a secretary, what with this being the early 1960s and all — Eileen has her hands full taking care of her permanently drunk, ex-cop dad. She works at a prison for juvenile offenders in a blue-collar Massachusetts burg. If she spies a couple in a car parked near hers, she may shove a fistful of snow down the front of her skirt.

It’s the final month of the year, which means much of our attention will be turned to sharing various best-of-2023 rundowns throughout December. The month also brings many of the year’s most noteworthy films, which we’ve rounded up before––some of which will be opening in a more limited capacity and expanding next month.
We should also note some top November picks like The Boy and the Heron and May December are finally getting in front of wider audiences, with the former getting a wide release on December 8 and the latter arriving on Netflix this Friday. For this round-up we’re also not including films getting limited one-week-only runs this month, such as Noora Niasari’s Shayda on December 1 and Ava DuVernay’s Origin and Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera on December 8.

This post contains spoilers for "Eileen." Seriously. If you haven't seen the movie yet, please check it out and then return to this article.
I fell hard for "Eileen" when I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with director William Oldroyd to mark the film's wide release. This is his second feature film, and he's now made two movies about young women who feel restricted by the worlds they live in and dramatically lash out as a result. That's certainly true of his first film, 2016's "Lady Macbeth," which helped catapult a young Florence Pugh to stardom, and for a significant portion of its runtime, it seems as if "Eileen" is going to be a much different kind of story -- a lush but low-key period romance between a mousy young prison employee played by Thomasin McKenzie...

Novelist Ottessa Moshfegh is still in the midst of adapting her hit novel “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” into a feature film.
The sensational 2018 book follows an unnamed woman who, just after the turn of the millennium, escalates her use of sleeping pills to try and stay mostly unconscious for a full year. So far, it’s only been turned into a 2020 stage play in Switzerland.
After Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap optioned the rights to the book in 2018, rumors swirled of “Poor Things” auteur Yorgos Lanthimos being attached to direct. (IndieWire has reached out to check up on this.) Moshfegh with her partner Luke Goebel more recently adapted her own novel, 2015’s “Eileen,” for the forthcoming William Oldroyd film starring Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie, out from Neon in December. “Eileen” premiered at Sundance in January and centers on two women who form a dark bond in 1960s Massachusetts.

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the opportunity to watch Lady Macbeth director William Oldroyd’s “terrific potboiler” Eileen at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (you can read his 8/10 review at This Link), and soon a wider audience will have their chance to check it out. Neon will be giving Eileen a theatrical release in December, starting in New York and Los Angeles on December 1st and then expanding across North America on December 8th. With those release dates drawing near, a trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Described as a “wild Hitchcockian noir,” Neon has released the trailer for Eileen this afternoon, which stars Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho).
The psychological thriller opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 1, followed by a wide theatrical release nationwide on December 8, 2023.
An adaptation of Ottessa Moshfegh’s acclaimed novel, Eileen was directed by William Oldroyd (“Lady Macbeth”). Moshfegh wrote the script alongside Luke Goebel.
In the film, “Set during a bitter 1964 Massachusetts winter, young secretary Eileen becomes enchanted by the glamorous new counselor at the prison where she works.”
The official plot description continues, “Their budding friendship takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret – throwing Eileen onto a sinister path.”
“Seeing my book come to life on screen has always been a career goal. The premiere at Sundance was a beautiful glimpse of what is to come,” Moshfegh said in a recent statement.

Need a twisty, genre-bending thriller this holiday season? Look no further than “Eileen,” William Oldroyd‘s first feature since 2016’s “Lady Macbeth.” And Oldroyd could do much worse for his latest film than adapting the debut novel of Ottessa Moshfegh, one of the premier female novelists in contemporary American literature.

After delivering Florence Pugh’s breakout role in Lady Macbeth, director William Oldroyd returned earlier to Sundance with an adaptation of Ottessa Moshfegh’s Eileen, which was picked up by Neon and set for a December 1 release. The first trailer has now arrived for the 1964-set story of a young secretary Eileen (Thomasin McKenzie) who becomes enchanted by Rebecca (Anne Hathaway), the glamorous new counselor at the Massachusetts prison where she works.
As Jordan Raup said in his review, “In the cold, dreary outskirts of 1960s Boston, Eileen (Thomasin McKenzie) spends her days hoping for a better (or at least more sexually active) life, splitting her time working at a juvenile prison ward and caring for her ailing drunk of a father (Shea Whigham). When the elegant, mysterious Rebecca (Anne Hathaway) glides into her work as the new psychologist on staff, Eileen’s dull world is suddenly brought to life and an unspoken attraction sparks.

It begins as a spatter of heavy rainfall — nothing out of the ordinary for acclimatized Brits, for whom an actual storm can even be cozily welcome after days of noncommittal drear and drizzle. But then it doesn’t stop, deep-set wet turns to invasive flooding, and what seemed a mere bout of inclement weather has swept you — and countless others like you — out of house and home. Megan Hunter’s speculative novel “The End We Start From” was a neat metaphor for the larger threat in seemingly minor signifiers of climate crisis; briskly adapted by screenwriter Alice Birch, Mahalia Belo’s fine film version matches its pragmatic, coolly urgent vision of a world coming apart slowly, gradually, and then all at once.

Speaking to fellow actor Jodie Turner-Smith for Elle magazine’s style awards, Florence Pugh railed against the backlash she often gets for exposing skin either in movies or on the red carpet. It was over one year ago when Pugh seemed to break the internet by wearing a see-through dress at a Valentino couture show in Rome, which ignited online conversation about her body. The Oscar nominee took to Instagram at the time to condemn “vulgar” trolls who were who sought to “totally destroy a woman’s body.”
“I speak the way I do about my body because I’m not trying to hide the cellulite on my thigh or the squidge in between my arm and my boob: I would much rather lay it all out,” Pugh now told Turner Smith. “I think the scariest thing for me are the instances where people have been upset that I’ve shown ‘too much’ of myself.

Danger. That’s the crucial asset for a star. During Season 1 of Emmy-nominated Comedy Series “The Bear”, Brooklyn-born Jeremy Allen White, now 32, broke into major stardom, even though he had toiled away for ten years in indie films and as Lip Gallagher on “Shameless”.
Stardom can hit fast. “Dream Scenario,” a bizarre comedy starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, will be one of 10 films competing in the Platform program at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, TIFF organizers announced on Wednesday.
The films will be competing for the Platform Prize, a $20,000 Cad award that will be given to the film chosen as the section’s best by a jury consisting of directors Barry Jenkins, Nadine Labaki and Anthony Shim (who won the Platform Prize last year for “Riceboy Sleeps”).
In a statement released by TIFF, programming director and Platform lead Robyn Citizen singled out “Dream Scenario,” which will serve as the section’s opening-night film, and said, “This surrealist satire-comedy has sharp, timely observations about social media culture — especially ‘going viral’ — and its impact on the way that we interact with others in our day-to-day life. Actor Cillian Murphy has said his sex scenes with Florence Pugh in ‘Oppenheimer’ are “perfect”. The ‘Peaky Blinders’ star, who is from Cork, Ireland, plays the lead in ‘Oppenheimer’. Murphy said the sex scenes with co-star Florence Pugh, who plays love interest Jean Tatlock, actually have a good reason for appearing in the film.
Jean Tatlock is a young Stanford Medical School student and Communist Party member and Oppenheimer’s lover.
While Florence Pugh had a shorter screen time than expected, her scenes definitely have a huge impact in the movie. Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald about the sex scenes, Murphy said: “Those scenes were written deliberately. He knew that those scenes would get the movie the rating that it got. And I think when you see it, it’s so f***** powerful. And they’re not gratuitous. They’re perfect. And Florence is just amazing.”

To say July is a big month for movie releases would be an understatement. As Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" competes with Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" movie in the battle of the July 21 box office, the films boast equally impressive casts of A-list stars. But they differ in their content ratings. While "Barbie" is rated PG-13, meaning it's suitable for children aged 13 and over, "Oppenheimer" is rated R, in part due to the movie's "infrequent nudity and sexual content." And Cillian Murphy, who plays the lead role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, has discussed filming those very sex scenes.
In a recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Murphy said the sex scenes with costar Florence Pugh, who plays love interest Jean Tatlock, are "perfect" and actually have a good reason for appearing in the film. Speaking about Nolan's directorial angle, Murphy said: "He knew that those scenes would get the movie the rating that it got.

Of all of the intellectual property to mine for a contemporary reboot, David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller Dead Ringers could not have been at the top of many people’s lists. Inspired by a true story of twin gynecologists who died mysteriously in a filthy Manhattan apartment, the film (doubly) stars Jeremy Irons as Beverly and Elliot Mantle, and is a stylish and gruesome look (complete with mutant genitalia and metallurgical instruments) at two devoted brothers whose codependency leads them to ruin — particularly after a beguiling woman (played by Geneviève Bujold) comes between them.
Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz says she’s always been a fan of Cronenberg’s film and identified it as a possible project to develop for herself. In collaboration with playwright and Succession scribe Alice Birch, as well as directors including Sean Durkin and Karyn Kusama, the resulting reboot is a gender-swapped interpretation of Cronenberg’s Toronto-set tale,...
