Heidi-Great and not.
meemisma28 January 2021
When the first season came out, it was a great series. Even my teenage grandaughter loved it. Unfortunately, in the second season, the voices are all different and they don't even remotely match the original voices. They are terrible. I couldn't even get through the whole season. Also, compared to the first season, the episode stories are not as good, at least in my opinion. If the makers of the show had put some more effort into thinking this through, I think they might have tried to better match the voices. Heidi, alone, sounds like a chipmunk. I will still enjoy the first season and just skip the second season. My grandaughter has watched it several times and I believe she will watch again.

Entertaining for kids, but watch for profanity
btlotz10 January 2021
This show is generally safe or family viewing, but note that profanity is introduced starting at episode 58 (if nor before), wit several "Dammit!" curses by several characters.

The finest animated children's show out there
californiacotton21 August 2016
Having three young children I spend lots of time watching cartoons. Generally I find them unintelligible and often drift off, thinking about work or the weekend or whatever.

Not Heidi. I find this show captivating and well written. Heidi is a cute little orphan who is sent into the Alps to live with her Grandfather, a recluse man who casts a weary eye on his new arrival. However, as Heidi's character grows into the season, it's hard not to love her, and her Grandfather loves her most of all. Then there's Peter, the young goat herder who befriends Heidi. He's a little boy, and not unlike other boys he quests adventure and exploration. Many of the episodes revolve around Heidi and Peter learning something new or challenging each others' wits. Later on, Clara joins in from "the city" (Frankfurt) and along with her Governess, we have a show with character depth and charm.

Most of all, Heidi portrays a sweet girl living in idyllic Switzerland and promotes kindness, curiosity, and a sweet virtue that is missing in so many other children's programming today. In our modern age, Heidi fits the bill for wholesome viewing. I am hoping for a season 2!

Wish we could buy entire series in English on DVD

Warning: Spoilers
My daughter and I love this Heidi series. We first saw it on Netflix (streaming) and watched it over and over and never tired of it! Then, one day it was no longer made available on Netflix. I looked online to see if we could purchase the entire series. I only saw that Season 1 is available. I saw the entire series offered and shipped from Germany, but there was no indication what language it is in. I know it comes in different languages. It would be great to have the the entire series on DVD offered in English at an affordable price. We found some episodes in English on You Tube, but it is a hassle to find them all in in order. This animation series is beautifully filmed, written, with a touching soundtrack. It's a shame it is not more readily available in the USA.

A beautiful story of a beautiful little girl told beautifully.
Lilka20061990-569-75486313 October 2016
My little girl is never tired of this show. It's the most feel good show we've found. We always go back to it. It's a little emotional at parts and we love it. I got sucked into the story after watching one episode with my daughter and that's rare when it comes to children programming. I had no idea Heidi story has been told before. We absolutely love it and recommend to anyone. Props to the creators and everyone involved, it's a beautiful show, I'd give an award if a was in a position to. Heidi is a great character, unlike in other cartoons she's not a character who always makes the right choice, she makes mistakes sometimes but always follows her heart and that's how kids can relate to her.

Wonderful viewing

Started watching this with my 4 year old daughter, and we both love it. Beautifully written and animated. Only real real shame is the change of character voices on season two! Spoils it completely.

A beautiful show
the_rd_amego9 March 2019
I can not fault this show. It's a beautiful story that adults can enjoy too. It's a nice change from the over-the-top shows that are on TV for kids these days. It teaches values and kindness and also encourages adventure and curiosity. It has a nice, calming quality that is great for just before naps too.

Heidi season 2
babitain-412411 September 2020
Heidi season 1 was way better and amazing and the voice overs were very good. But in season 2 everybody's voices changed and it is annoying. And it is not very good as season 1 and Heidi's voice is terrible like when she calls aunt Dete, aunt Dete with a deep 'e' and even the grandfather said once Aunt Dete with a deep 'e'. I hope if they make a another season of Heidi they should make it nice and proper as season1 but in reality I still like Heidi. Heidi talks very fast and her voice doesn't match her personality and her expressions are not too good. Wish they had chosen voice overs for this season as close to the voices in season 1. New character voices are okay!

Nice story
abhilashbose3 January 2020
I grown up watching Disneys cartoons in th 90s. I live in India, now most cartoons shown here are created in India which are too bad. My brothers daughter is 5 years old even she is not interested in idiotic indian cartoons. Thanks to kochu TV to telecast this cartoon. Its is telecasted as lily in malayalam. She watches it every day. Even I watch this cartoon.

My 3 yo and I enjoy watching this together, especially before bed. It's a thoughtful adaptation of the story and would love to see more episodes.

Wish I could find it on DVD.

Charming
Bendoza2 March 2021
This series wasn't meant for us - we're a couple of 60-year-olds. But we find it utterly charming and don't want to miss any episode.

Loved the first season but not the 2nd
mpouliot-6682114 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First of all the 1st season had all the positive messages and sweetness you can imagine from Heidi. The 2nd season got a little disgusting. For example in episode 06 "Bridget's Secret" it's revealed that Peter's father a watchmaker is alive and living in Frankfurt (in the original version he was a goatherd that passed away when Peter was young). Peter becomes distressed when he realises that the watch his mother "Bridget" gave him has the name of another man Anton Bendorf, and not Pablo ( a made up story of his father that was a Spanish Soldier) he then becomes upset and demands to know who is his real father is. Bridget eventually tell him the story on how her and his father fell in love one summer when he came to Dörfli, she even states that though he never hid the fact that he was already "married" they didn't care as they were so "in love", after multiple affairs he decides to return to his wife and not get a divorce and she finds out she's pregnant with Peter, but never tells him as they never saw each other after that. His father then appears in other episodes and has absolutely no remorse of having cheated on his recently deceased wife. Basically implying that infidelity, cheating, adultery and lying is all okay. That is not religiously, morally and socially acceptable. I find that appalling and disgraceful considering the age group on which this show was intended for.

Maybe the worst adaption of the book
patrickfilbeck21 September 2021
Heidi is a classic German-language story, the plot of which takes place between the city of Frankfurt am Main and the Swiss Alps. The wonderful novel has already been adapted in large numbers for cinema and television and it was not uncommon for these variants of the story to be really nice to look at. For example the American film from the early 90s or the European-Japanese anime series. This CGI series can't keep up with any of these adaptations. Who wants to see a computer-generated forest, CGI-infested mountains or wild animals in a stupid representation? The plot follows relatively (!) Close to the original book, but the wooden conversations, the invented characters and the (German) voices are just not fun. In addition there is the fact that the German amusement park "Holiday Park" has changed its design after this lousy series and was thus also negatively affected.

Stupid show about an idiotic and idealistic girl and her annoying animal friends
Aleta_Nook6 July 2016
This is the 2D cartoon of Heidi, set in the Swiss alps but was made in French/Australia.

First, let's talk about Heidi and the story surrounding her, I've seen the anime version of Heidi and thought that Heidi was a bit too temperamental but this adaptation, the writers are trying to aim for a less annoying Heidi. She's like a typical five-year-old kid, inquisitive and chill but not enough self- discipline due to her young age.

Still, though, they seem to be trying to make her too similar to her playful anime counterpart.

Still, though the series, in my opinion is saccharine in a childish sort of way. Such as when Heidi befriends an innocent rat when in general belief, rats are supposed to be contagious. Though, this may date back to Madeline (1998) when she convinced the boy that the mouse was innocent and that she wasn't afraid.

Heidi's voice may have been a little too old for her age.

The aunt is not a very good character either, she doesn't seem to take much time to control Heidi's impetuous behavior. Also, her emotional parts were forced and the show didn't take much time to make me care about her character.

The animation is pretty good for the most part, though Heidi's character animation felt generic but that's the only high part of this cartoon. Everything else such as the script, which added in some elements that the book didn't have from and the flawed characters could've been better.
