The ultimate victor in the streaming wars has been the audience, which now enjoys the spoils of a content-starved environment in which death is never final, and any familiar TV franchise has a good shot at being resurrected. For proof, as if any more is needed, look to the motley crew of psychopath hunters from the long-running procedural “Criminal Minds,” now back in action on Paramount+ less than three years after CBS took them off the case.
But this is not quite the show viewers watched for 324 episodes. This is “Criminal Minds: Evolution,” a 10-episode-long soft reboot clearly intended to push the franchise into a more mature territory with deliberate pacing and a renewed focus on the profilers solving the murders, rather than the perpetrators committing them. It’s a logical progression for the show, which for all its success on CBS, always felt a bit too dark for the network,...

Amazon Studios is shaking up the leadership of its TV programming operations under Head of Television Vernon Sanders, I have learned. Marc Resteghini is stepping down as US/Global Head of Development, sources said. He is negotiating a producing deal with Amazon Studios. Nick Pepper, Head of Studio Creative Content, and Laura Lancaster, Head of Series, are expected to divvy up Resteghini’s responsibilities and co-run development and production of TV content, reporting to Sanders. MGM TV’s operations remain separate and do not factor into the current executive changes.
A rep for Amazon Studios declined comment.
Resteghini, Pepper and Lancaster were named to their most recent roles in early 2021 as part of an Amazon Studios TV restructuring that created the layer of three top programming positions reporting to then-Amazon Studios co-heads of TV Sanders and Albert Cheng (who also was COO).

“Criminal Minds” is officially coming back, with the fan-favorite series getting a 10-episode order for a Paramount+ revival that will reunite many of the show’s original cast members, according to reports.
The news, first reported by TVLine, comes after a long-winding back-and-forth about the status of the revival.
Yesterday, Joe Mantegna — who starred in the CBS procedural as FBI Special Agent David Rossi — tweeted a behind-the-scenes photo on a set that seemed to tease the revival, writing, “Just doing a little inspection today for an upcoming project #criminalminds.” The post was then retweeted by the show’s official Twitter account.
In addition to Mantegna, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, Paget Brewster and Kirsten Vangsness will be reprising their roles, though Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney will not be back, per TVLine. TheWrap has reached out for comment about the revival and returning cast members.

Exclusive: Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, who created the CBS series The Equalizer based on the 1980s show, are stepping down as showrunners of the hit drama starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah after two seasons. Joseph C. Wilson, who has been on the show since the first season, and Adam Glass (The Chi) have been named new showrunners for Season 3.
CBS is yet to renew any of its Universal Television-co-produced series, The Equalizer, the three FBI dramas and Magnum Pi. All look good to continue, with the highly-rated FBIs and The Equalizer considered a slam dunk. The hire of new showrunners further solidifies The Equalizer‘s outlook as networks and studios usually go through the process when a renewal is expected.
“We are incredibly proud of the work we did to bring The Equalizer to audiences,” Marlowe and Miller said in a statement to Deadline.

Tyler James Williams credits one person for getting him back on a sitcom: Quinta Brunson. In an exclusive chat with E! News, the Abbott Elementary star shared that he wasn't seeking another network comedy gig after his tenure on Everybody Hates Chris, in which he played the sitcom's titular role between 2005 and 2009. Per Williams, he had "veered away" from that style of TV in recent years, instead exploring more serious roles on The Walking Dead and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. "A lot of times with network comedies, it can get very broad," he shared, "and, like, you'd have to pull a joke out of your ass every now and then. And that's what I attempt to...

Paramount+ is still on track with its reboot of classic procedural Criminal Minds.
This comes despite reports last summer, stirred by comments by series star Paget Brewster, that the project might have been dead at the streamer.
Nicole Clemens, President, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, said, “We are still very much in development on Criminal Minds. We’ll have more to share on that soon but it is alive and well.”
Clemens, who took on her new role at the streamer last summer, in addition to running Paramount Television Studios, said that the delay of the reboot was down to the executive shuffle at the company rather than anything to do with the project itself.
Paramount+ Renews ‘Seal Team’, ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’, ‘The Game’
Last February, the streamer revealed that it was bringing back the series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS, with the team coming back together to investigate a single case over 10 episodes.

13 Reasons Why Season 4 was made official by Netflix last September, setting up what will serve as the final season for the series.
After the series released its third season last year, it became clear that formerly controversial water cooler topic series 13 Reasons Why was running out of reasons to cite, thus putting a finish line firmly on the horizon. While the show typically runs 13 episodes, this final run will contain just 10. However, creator/showrunner/Ep Brian Yorkey remained onboard to see things through.

The trailer for the fourth and final season of 13 Reasons Why has arrived, previewing a series that must first pick up the pieces after Monty (Timothy Granaderos) was killed in prison at the end of Season 3. With the late Monty having spent the series as a bully and rapist, it made him the perfect patsy for the killing of Bryce Walker, whose real killer,...

Last month, ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke and Evp Development and Content Strategy Simran Sethi unveiled that they are ramping up their efforts to move its development process off-cycle, rebranding it a “second cycle.”
Today, the network handed its first second-cycle pilot order to medical drama Triage, which will be produced outside of the traditional pilot window. The 20th Century Fox TV-produced project comes from longtime Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer, Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu and Triage creator David Cornue.
The pilot order marks a culmination of a long journey for Triage and another example of a symbiotic relationship between labels of Disney Television Studios.
Triage originated as a spec script by Cornue written years ago. During the 2018-19 development season, it was used as source material for a medical drama, titled Triage, at Fox, written by Grey’s Anatomy‘s Zoanne Clack. The project, from Sonar Entertainment and OutEast Entertainment,...

Feb. 19, 2020, marked the end of an era.
After 324 episodes over 15 seasons, Criminal Minds drew to a close with a two-part finale, Criminal Minds Season 15 Episode 9 and Criminal Minds Season 15 Episode 10.
Suffice it to say, we're unlikely to see anything like it again.
Criminal Minds proved that unstable serial killers could be brought into America's living rooms.
Well, at least for an hour a week. No, more than an hour, thanks to cable. No, make that as much as you could stomach, thanks to streaming.
Debuting on Sept. 22, 2005, Criminal Minds was an acquired taste.
It was one never acquired by Mandy Patinkin, who left abruptly after portraying Jason Gideon for the first two seasons.
As Patinkin explained to New York Magazine in 2012, "I thought it was something very different. I never thought they were going to kill and rape all these women every night, every day, week after week, year after year.

Many times, things aren't what they seem to be.
That was certainly the case on Criminal Minds Season 15 Episode 5.
What appeared to be a copycat serial killing took a bizarre turn in which two agents were targeted for their actions before they even became members of the Bau.
So instead of the return of an old Criminal Minds killer, it featured an unsub that most of the squad didn't even know existed.
With so few episodes this final season, does that represent a missed opportunity, injecting a new villain rather than bringing back an old favorite?
When it's this well done, I don't think so. This season doesn't have to be just the greatest hits. There's room for new songs as well.
In this case (double meaning intentional), the Bau's little Band of Brothers were in the spotlight.
Yes, with such a large cast, it's hard to highlight every character...
