- Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham: [to Mrs. Crawley] You must know by now I never answer any question more incriminating than whether or not I need a rug.
- Thomas Barrow: [upon leaving Downton for new employment] I arrived here as a boy. I leave here as a man.
- Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Don't be mysterious. It's the last resort of people with no secrets.
- Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: [referring to the Marquess] He's painted himself into a corner.
- Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham: I know. Why can't men paint themselves out of a corner?
- Miss Denker: Well, if I'm not wanted...
- Spratt: When were you last wanted?
- Miss Denker: [going out the door] I shall ignore that.
- Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: I just think it's a bit hasty.
- Lady Edith Crawley: Hasty? I think I've been about as hasty as a glacier.
- [Larry and Amelia Grey have tried to prevent Isobel from seeing Lord Merton, but she and Violet push past them; Lord Merton sees them]
- Lord Merton: [to Isobel] Why have you stayed away?
- Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham: She didn't stay away. She was denied entry.
- Lord Merton: What! Is this true?
- Amelia Grey: Of course not.
- Isobel Crawley: Right. Here's what we'll do. We'll go up now and speak to your valet. He can take everything you need to my house this evening.
- Larry Grey: [patronisingly] Father, this is all unnecessary and unpleasant. Might I suggest...
- Isobel Crawley: No! I've let you steer us long enough. In future *I'll* look after your father.
- Larry Grey: Surely it will be better for us...
- Lord Merton: No! Larry, as my son, I love you. But I've tried and failed to like you. Will you please leave me to get on with what remains of my life.
- Larry Grey: Bu this is your home.
- Lord Merton: Not any more. Take it. And may you have joy of it.
- Isobel Crawley: And furthermore, I intend to marry him as soon as it can be arranged.
- Amelia Grey: This is ridiculous. Father, Mrs Crawley wants to take you away from your son and your family, and kidnap you into marriage. What do you say?
- Lord Merton: How perfectly marvellous.
- Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham: And who can argue with that.
- [Spratt is busy writing his magazine column when Miss Denker comes in; Spratt hastily hides what he has been working on]
- Miss Denker: What are you doing?
- Spratt: [evasively] Mind your own business.
- Miss Denker: Mr Spratt. I know you resent me.
- Spratt: Why would I resent you?
- Miss Denker: Because I'm interesting. Because I'm exotic. Because I'm attractive.
- Spratt: Oh dear me. This is worse than I thought. Do you always have trouble distinguishing fact from fiction?
- Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: I think the more adaptable we are, the more chance we have of getting through.
- Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: We'll do it!
