Project Name: Snatoms
Asking For: $42,000 on Kickstarter
Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $59,061, though stretch goals will soon seek higher targets.
Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 41
Description: Usually, our Fund This column profiles hopeful content creators looking to get a new series or short film off the ground. This time, though, we're highlighting a science project. Derek Muller, the host of the Veritasium, is seeking funds for Snatoms, a brand of molecular modeling kits that he believes can replace the ball-and-stick models that have been used for 150 years.
Snatoms feature a simple, intuitive design. Balls of varying sizes--each one representing a different element--are filled with magnets and then cut to create multiple flat surfaces. By magnetically attaching, say, two hydrogen balls onto the surfaces of one oxygen ball, a Snatoms user can create a water molecule that comes together with a series of satisfying snaps.

Wired is looking into the future of consumer robotics, and along the way, it’s getting a little help from its friends. The tech publication run by Conde Nast has launched Cyborg Nation, a new web series sponsored by Reddit, hosted by Derek Muller of Veritasium, and produced by ad agency Acres.
Each episode of Cyborg Nation looks into a specific innovation in the world of cyborg technology. The premiere, for example, shows how bionic limbs are beginning to eclipse the capabilities of normal human appendages. You can find it on The Scene, where it lives next to other videos in the Conde Nast Entertainment network, or on the Wired YouTube channel.
Other installments within the six-episode series discuss topics like cyborg cockroaches and mind-controlled hardware. Amazingly, these developments all exist in real life. Somehow, they’re not concepts out of a science-fiction book. “It is an honor to tell...

For the first time, iconic cookie brand Nestle Toll House is sponsoring a series on YouTube, and in doing so, it has turn to a chef with a bright disposition and a charming demeanor. Ashley Adams, co-founder of the Feast Of Fiction YouTube channel, is the host of Bake My Day, a cooking web series that makes use of Nestle Toll House products.
On Feast Of Fiction, Adams and co-host Jimmy Wong craft recipes based on famous foodstuffs from fictional worlds. Bake My Day, on the other hand, is a bit more straightforward. Its recipes, such as chocolate quesadillas and “Scotcheroos,” are somewhat offbeat, but Adams’ presentation style, like many of the chefs on the Food Network, is full of smiles and energy. She even adds in a bit of Alton Brown-esque goofiness for good measure.
Upcoming Bake My Day episodes will throw some wrinkles into the show’s formula.

The Coriolis effect, which causes ocean currents to move in different directions across Earth’s two hemispheres, is a well-known scientific theory. What’s more regularly debated, however, is whether this effect causes toilet water to move in opposite directions in the USA and Australia. That particular factoid has been referenced several times in pop culture, but it has also been refuted, with Hank Green calling it “bunk” in a SciShow video.
Now, in an innovative new video, two members of YouTube’s scientific community have decided to test the Coriolis effect on a small scale. Destin Sandlin of Smarter Every Day and Derek Muller of Veritasium launched a collaboration in which they both perform the same experiment on opposite sides of the world before sharing their results in a fascinating pair of synchronized videos.
In his hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, Sandlin filled a large, circular tub with water. Across the world,...
