The end justifies it. TV writers love this stuff and apparently so do viewers. An episode or two ago, the two patrol officers survived incredible stupidity and equally incredible circumstances. In this one, the Sarge and crew keep their jobs despite following a course that was guaranteed to cost them. Other shows push this envelope to varying degrees, but Chicago PD tears it to pieces.
