- As the doctors continue to tackle an unfathomable crisis, they are reminded of what is important and brought closer together.
- The doctors try to save the man who's pinned in his car, whom they couldn't help in the field so April brought him to the hospital. And the man's girlfriend just gave birth and she's still hanging by a thread. Pierce is preoccupied with something. Edwards is tired of being the one who has to take care of the new interns. Bailey awaits to see if she's going to be the new Chief. Richard and Catherine's wedding is still uncertain. Jo is not happy with Alex because he's making a decision without asking her.—rcs0411@yahoo.com
- Keith, the guy trapped in the car, is now trapped in his car outside the doors of the ER. Joan, the mother of his new baby, is bleeding heavily after giving birth and is still being kept still for fear that she'll be paralyzed. Arizona has to take the baby to the NICU while they continue to work on Joan.
Pierce's parents are going through something that she's having to deal with by phone calls, and Amelia is telling Meredith that she can find some other place to live now that Derek, who invited her, is dead.
Callie kicks Stephanie off Joan's case because she left Joan unattended with first-day interns. Catherine and Webber are still arguing because Webber thinks that Catherine is acting like a dictator, and he yells so loud at once point it overcomes the noise of Keith being cut out of the car. Meredith cheers Keith up with some news about his baby boy, and tells him that Joan is going into surgery. Jo relays the news to Joan that Keith at the hospital and alive, and being worked on. The firefighters continue cutting the car apart, but Keith screams in pain. Meredith says they can't keep cutting without tearing Keith apart.
The surgeons make a plan to wheel Keith across the whole hospital. They're going to have to literally sprint of he'll bleed out. Webber tells Bailey that he is going to make her chief of surgery.
Keith is feeling discouraged, like he's not going to make it through the transfer from the car and into the hospital, and Meredith decides to get his baby boy and bring him outside for a minute to give Keith a boost. Keith tells his baby that he's going to make it through the surgery so he can see him. Keith tells Meredith it was a bad idea, "because I'm going to be really pissed if you don't pull this off."
"Me, too," Meredith says.
Alex asks Jo about Meredith and the kids moving in, and she gets upset because she feels like he's making all the big decisions on his own.
Hunt and April are starting Keith's surgery outside before he's going to be moved quickly into the O.R. She tells him that being out in the field, with the Army, is all she ever thinks about. Meanwhile, Jackson is getting Stephanie and the interns to clear the path inside the hospital where they're going to wheel Keith. If anything goes wrong, Keith will die. One intern is told to hold the elevator until Keith is inside, but she steps away for a second while yelling at someone else to get out of the path. The elevator closes and she races down to the next floor to kick everyone out of it and bring it back up to the right floor. It opens just in time and Keith is wheeled in.
Amelia tells Hunt that Joan is out of surgery, awake and not paralyzed. Then they have a bumbling conversation where neither of them is being clear about where they stand. Alex, meanwhile, pleads with Jo to believe that he wants to have a whole future with him. She leaves and says she has to think about what she wants.
Jackson talks about his mother and Webber having a "clash of the titans," and Pierce tearfully chimes in that they shouldn't just throw their relationship away. Obviously, her parents are getting divorced.
Meredith gives Amelia her old cell phone, which she says has one voicemail on it. She gives her the password and warns her to be alone when she listens to it.
Stephanie and her interns go to check on Joan, with one of the interns reminding Stephanie that she was told not to go near Joan anymore. Stephanie asks Joan to squeeze her hand and she does, weakly. Joan's vitals start to drop. Stephanie starts to do a tracheotomy.
Callie and Amelia operate on Joan while Callie gives Stephanie credit for catching Joan in time. Stephanie, meanwhile, is annoyed with her interns in the gallery because they're asking questions. Bailey tells her to raise her "ducklings," and that her job has changed to being a teacher, and it's a part of the job she needs to do better.
Meredith finds Catherine and Webber giving each other the silent treatment and gives them a big speech about how they should feel lucky to be able to be with the person they each love. She admittedly plays the dead husband card and tells them to figure out what's coming between them. They say nothing.
Outside, Jackson tells April she should be proud of herself for saving Keith, and she gets sad. She can't figure out how to tell Jackson that she wants to go back with the Army, so he says it for her. She says she feels like she's been called, and he seems to get it. He says that when they lost their baby, "a light went out" in her and he misses it. Clearly something "over there" helped light it again, he says. He says he loves her, but he doesn't think he'll be there when she gets back. He says she never asked how he was doing during the year while she was gone. He says he had to silence himself so she could grieve. She asks him if he's telling her that he's "calling it" if she goes back.
Joan wakes up from surgery and she asks about Keith -- and he's laying next to her. He tells her he saw the baby, and makes her laugh by saying it looks like him and is beautiful.
Catherine and Webber go point by point on how to run the hospital. Webber wants Bailey to be chief, and Catherine says Bailey should be judged against an outside candidate of her choosing. After going through all of these points, he tells her he will provide a safe harbor, where she doesn't have to be on as the ever-accomplished Catherine Avery all the time. We next see them getting married and getting cheers from everyone.
As the party is going on, Jackson says he doesn't know where April has gone. Jo pulls Alex aside and tells him she needs to show him something. Webber tells Bailey that she's going to have to beat an external candidate, and she says she feels sorry for whoever has to go against her for the job because she is ready.
Jo shows Alex a run-down loft space, which she is buying with everything she owns -- but she's a little short and wants Alex to buy the loft with her. She tells him to sell Meredith the house back so she can have it and they can make the loft into whatever they want.
Stephanie debriefs her interns on Joan's case, then opens it up for questions.
April, meanwhile, is sobbing while Arizona consoles her.
Hunt finds Amelia sitting alone, hesitant to press play on the voicemail. Hunt sits down with her and presses play for her, and she listens to Derek's voice as he talks about how beautiful his ferry ride is and how they're going to do more enjoying of Seattle when he gets back from D.C.
Meredith finds Pierce crying alone, and she reveals that her parents are getting a divorce because her mom has been having an affair for 11 years. She says her dad knew for years but didn't leave because they wanted to stay together for Pierce. She says she didn't tell Meredith because her husband died and she didn't want to cry about "mommy and daddy." Meredith tells her she should always come talk to her. Pierce puts her head on Meredith's shoulder. Amelia comes out and finds them and sits with them for a moment. Meredith says Derek would have loved the party -- which is happening at Meredith's house -- because he always wanted it filled with noise and happiness. She wants that to be the last memory in the house. Meredith tells Pierce and Amelia that they have to "dance it out,"
And they do.
