Let us commence this week's box-office report in a very formal way, by stating the obvious- This Friday will witness the release of Kabir Khan's Salman, Kareena and Nawazuddin starrer, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which will commence on a hurricane like start and in all probabilities cross the century mark, before the Eid-ul Fitr weekend is over. On way to box-office triumph Bajrangi Bhaijaan will smash records, left right and centre.
Wrong and delayed timing means that the well-made Sunny-Kangana starrer, I Love NY, went unnoticed netting just around 1.75 crore during the opening week.
Meanwhile one can't help but mention the other film of the same week, S.S. Rajamoli's Bahubali (Tamil and Telugu), which also released in its Hindi dubbed version. The film created history by netting nearly 100 crore (for all versions combined including Hindi), during the opening weekend from India. The Hindi version too impressed by netting 20 crore during...

After the last bullet was spent, after the last dialogue said, hers was the face that I left the theatre with. The last scene in D-day was traumatic. She embedded herself in my mind with a performance very, very real.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Shriswara, the actor who, even in a brief role, leaves an indelible mark. Guddu Rangeela might not have rattled the Box Office, but, Shriswara left her mark, like she did in D-day.
In person, she is an enigma. When you walk in to meet her, she comes across like this stern school principal, almost intimidating you. So it takes a long while before you manage to break the ice with some mundane questions. She then comes alive like her character on screen. Then, there is no looking back as you realize that this actor has not one, but many funny bones.
Her replies are witty,...

The major release of the week, Sunny-Kangana starrer, I Love NY, was off to a dull start of around 15-20 percent (better in Delhi-ncr and East Punjab). Given the comparatively small release size and with Salman's Bajrangi Bhaijaan releasing next week, the film has an uphill task, despite good production values and music.
The other release of the same week, S.S. Rajamouli's Bahubali (dubbed), fared better with a 25 percent start, and with a higher release size it should see a decent first day.
Meanwhile, the Subhash Kapoor directed Arshad-Amit starrer, Guddu Rangeela, failed to consolidate after a fair weekend (6 crore), ending the first week netting nearly 9 crore from India, and is a box-office failure. The other release of the same week, Second Hand Husband, is a washout with around 3 crore during the opening week.

Three new films released over the weekend gone by – Guddu Rangeela, Second Hand Husband and Bezubaan Ishq. Out of the three, Guddu Rangeela was the only film that managed collections of some sort. Though reviews for the film were not fantastic across board, like it was for Arshad Warsi-Subhash Kapoor’s last collaboration Jolly Llb, they were still the best of the lot when compared to the other releases. The film showed some escalation in numbers over the weekend and collected around 6 crore.
The film benefits from the fact that its cost is 15 crore (including P&A) and since 9.5 crore have already been recovered through sale of satellite (7.5 crore) and music (2 crore) rights, only 5.5 crore remain to be earned back through theatrical revenue. That should be a cakewalk, hence allowing the film to sail through and get into profit zone.

He has been active in front of the camera for a decade now, considering his television sojourn. Around five years back he also made his big screen debut with Phoonk 2 (2010) followed by Maximum (2012). However, his real calling came with Kai Po Che (2013) where he was seen in a serious avtar and instantly noticed for his controlled act. Instead of jumping into every second offer that came his way, Amit Sadh decided to wait before picking up something worthwhile. This is where Guddu Rangeela came into picture. With director Subhash Kapoor at the helm of affairs and Arshad Warsi as the co-star, Amit was game. Now that the film has released, it has also turned out to be more of a dramatic action flick, instead of being a comic caper that seemed on the cards. As a matter of fact, with his character inspired by Jai (from Sholay), Amit is...

The new releases of the week, Guddu Rangeela, Second Hand Husband and Bezubaan Ishq, fared as expected and predicted. It was the Arshad-Amit starrer, Guddu Rangeela, which was the front runner with a dull 20-25 percent start, followed by Second Hand Husband (better in East Punjab). The third release, Bezubaan Ishq, saw a poor start.
Obviously, it is just the Subhash Kapoor directed, Guddu Rangeela, which has some chances, and for that it has to show a good pick up during the two remaining days of the weekend, though it will not come anywhere close to the director's last venture with Arshad Warsi, Jolly Llb.
Meanwhile, Walt Disney Pictures and Utv Motion Pictures' Remo Dsouza directed Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhu Dheva starrer, Abcd- Anybody Can Dance 2, saw a reasonably steady second week with about 25 crore, thus netting 97 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India, and is a super hit.

Two medium budget films clash this weekend – Guddu Rangeela and Second Hand Husband. Of course, former has more star value attached to it with Arshad Warsi leading the show. Moreover, he also returns with Subhash Kapoor after Jolly Llb, which lends further credibility to the film. While Amit Sadh (Kai Po Che), Aditi Rao Hydari (Murder 3) and Ronit Roy (2 States) are reliable actors, one waits to see how they have performed in a largely fun entertainer like this.
From the opening perspective, Guddu Rangeela should take a decent start since audience has been waiting for a new worthy film for a fortnight since Abcd 2. However, it would be growth over the weekend that would be the deciding factor as the film would need to sustain well over the weekdays too for bringing in good numbers.

This Friday will see multiple releases in the form of Guddu Rangeela, Second Hand Husband and Bezubaan Ishq. The front runner is likely to be the Subhash Kapoor directed Guddu Rangeela followed by Second Hand Husband and Bezubaan Ishq, in that order, though none of the three films carry much hype.
Both the releases of last week, Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho and Uvaa, failed to appeal to the audience, who preferred to watch the week old Abcd 2 instead.
After the best opening weekend of 2015 (46 crore),Walt Disney Pictures and Utv Motion Pictures' Remo Dsouza directed Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhu Dheva starrer, Abcd- Anybody Can Dance 2, maintained well during the weekdays as well, collecting 8.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.50 crore from Ahmedabad, 80 lakhs from Surat, 60 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 25.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.50 crore from Pune, 40.75 lakhs from Nasik, 41 lakhs from Goa, 15.50 lakhs from Belgaum,...

When a director of Subhash Kapoor's repute says, ''Watch out for Ronit Roy,'' http://www.glamsham.com/movies/news/15/jun/say-salaam-subhash.asp there has to be something in it. To be honest, I have been 'watching out' for you since I saw you on Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa a few years ago. I guess it was Season 2 in 2007.
You see, I am not much of a television person. The last time I was hooked onto television was in the early nineties when the skies opened up to India and Santa Barbara and Bold and Beautiful entered our homes. Santa Barbara was my favourite. I watched it religiously, sometimes twice a day, until, three years later I realized that I was being taken for a ride from the Lockeridge home to the Capwell home.

Just three films old, but Subhash Kapoor is today a name to reckon with where quality films are concerned. Moreover, he is still the affable, approachable guy who I have known since Say Salaam India released in 2007. Over the years, we have talked films and critiqued blockbusters in our private conversations.
With every film, Subhash has stamped his 'identity' and Jolly Llb was just what the lawyer, oops... Doctor had ordered. National Award Winning director of Jolly Llb, Subhash Kapoor's upcoming film Guddu Rangeela is comedy with a message. The director had a secret under wraps for long that a plot in the film is inspired by the famous Manoj-Babli honour killing case of Haryana. Subhash Kapoor was a political journalist before he became a filmmaker, and he had closely followed the case and got affected by the outcome. Commenting on the story, Subhash Kapoor said, "The honour killing case was about a girl called Babli and a boy called Manoj, who got married in 2007 and were killed in 2009. Even though both of them came from one caste and community, the khaps said that all of them who came from that one community were like sons and daughters of one man and so, everybody within this khap were like brothers and sisters. Therefore, in their view, how could Manoj marry...

Aditi Rao Hydari, who plays deaf and mute in her upcoming film Guddu Rangeela, did something unique to get into the skin of her character.
To get the nuances of her character right, she visited the school of deaf and mute, and spent time with the students there. She learnt a lot, including sign language and their spirit for life. Not only that, for few dance sequences, Aditi used to listen to the song just once and then used to practice her dance steps without music to get her body language bang on as a deaf and mute person.
She feels that this itself is a different dance form altogether and she is happy that she got to learn something so unique like this.
Aditi says, ” It was amazing to experience and watch how touch, sight and instinct become so enhanced and sensitive while preparing for the part of ‘baby...

Amit Sadh, who made his big Bollywood debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che, has an interesting line up of films releasing soon including Subhash Kapoor’s Guddu Rangeela, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara, Ar Murugadoss’ Akira and Amit Roy’s Runningshadi.com.
The actor, who several filmmakers are backing, plays a notorious brat in Guddu Rangeela, for which he had to learn the Haryanvi language for his role.
Besides that Amit is also looking forward to the rom-com, Runningshadi.com with Taapsee Pannu , where the two team up to play interesting characters that run a website , helping people elope and get married.
Interestingly his character in Yaara ranges from being a 25-year-old guy to eventually turning into a 45-year-old. The versatile actor had gone through a physical transformation and gained about 22 kgs for the role. What made the job tougher was that Amit, who loves getting under the skin of his characters,...

In Tigmanshu Dhulia's Yaara, Amit Sadh who turned 35 on Friday, had a tough time trying to look 60. Amit decided to just adapt his director's body language and speech style, since Tigmanshu is closer to the character's age than Amit.
Says Sadh, "Tishu was supposed to play the older avatar of my character. But then he decided to merge the two actors and I was required to play the character's young and older version. It helped me to understand myself better."
But it's Subhash Kapoor, Amit's director in Guddu Rangeela, whom the young actor has really warmed up to. Amit, who has no family, treats Kapoor as a father-figure. "He is my guide and mentor. Working on Guddu Rangeela with him I learnt so much, and not just about filmmaking."
Ever since Amit broke up with his steady girlfriend, the Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa, his life had been wobbling on the edge.

Amit Sadh is someone who likes to challenge himself constantly and has already garnered a reputation of an actor who takes work very seriously. The actor who is working on two big projects had to push himself physically to fit their respective roles. He was required to put on 22 kgs for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s film and then lose 30 kgs and sport a six-pack look for Ar Murgadoss’s film. With just a few months to pull this off, he indulged in rigorous physical and heavy weight training.
The actor confirmed the news saying, “I weighed almost 75 kgs initially after which I lost 7 kgs for Tigmanshu sir’s film. I then gained 22 kgs for the second half of the film where my character was 90 years old. Immediately after that I had to lose all the extra pounds for Murgadoss sir’s film.
