Mathias has to investigate the case of Aron Bowen, recently released following his conviction for murdering his wife, but when Mathias begins digging into the past of Bowen he finds his hands tied by boss Prosser, who seems to wish the case to remain closed.
The crime itself was almost secondary, it was the intense character play that made this episode so gripping, the intensity between the working relationship between Mathias and Prosser made for engaging viewing. So many questions were asked in this episode, why did Prosser not want Mathias looking into that case, who clobbered him and torched his caravan, and why are the events at Devil's Bridge still so relevant?
The acting has always been excellent on the show, but Helen Griffin surely gave one of the standout performances, she was superb. Nice to see DS SIan Owen given more of a story, allowing Helen Daniel to showcase her skills, she was great.
I've one more series to go, I'm almost trying to space them out, in the hope I hear that Series 4 is coming.
Fantastic!
