Treurgrond presents a realistic picture of a major South African problem
eric-eyeforinfo27 June 2015
Treurgrond is the very first South African movie I've ever seen and I was pleasantly surprised despite the extreme sad subject this movie covers.

It provides a grim but realistic inside look into the farm murders that take place on a regular basis in South Africa, its impact on the community and the helplessness of the authorities to deal with these murders.

Treurgrond pays attention to a problem that has been neglected for too long. The film is understated but very well made while the acting is sober but very good.

I encourage everyone who is interested in South African history to watch the movie.

It is incomprehensible that so little attention to this film was given in the regular (movie) media.

Very good and important movie

This was the first South African movie I ever watched. It presents a very important and rarely seen in the mainstream media problem of farm murders in South Africa. It contains very graphic scenes, but in that case they are necessary. These scenes contrast with the image of harmonious life in the farm community. Maybe the picture is too idealized, if so it was to increase the contrast. I liked the actors. Apart from the main characters I liked Shaleen Surtie-Richards playing the teacher.
