Sex & Nudity

  • Some revealing outfits and occasional references. The main concern in this category is a scene where a gay character tells a vulnerable man that he will take care of him, before he unzips his trousers and (although it isn't explicitly shown) has anal sex with him. A very uncomfortable scene, despite the absence of nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a scene where a baby is scene faced down in a bathtub presumably dead.
  • A character eventually conspires to murder someone close to him. He gets closer and closer to doing so, but someone intervenes and stops him from completing his goal.
  • A man suddenly imagines himself slitting his own throat. Lots of blood sprays from the incision onto a mirror. Very startling and graphic.

Profanity

  • A few instances each of asshole, bitch, whore, dick, shit (including one of 'shithead') and fuck/fucking (in a non-sexual sense). One not too audible use of cunt.
  • A homophobic slur is used towards a gay character.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A young woman smokes a cigarette.
  • Two men smoke marijuana in one of their bedrooms. You don't see too much of the actual drug usage, but more of the change in behaviour caused by it. Some strong alcoholic drinks are consumed, too; a character actually vomits because he is so drunk, and this is all shown on camera.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The unusual meandering tone of the film may be unsettling for some. When the movie tries to be creepy however, it does somewhat succeed. A good example is when the main character is searching a musty attic and suddenly realises he might not be alone up there. There is a lingering dread of something unknown being kept in said attic that might be unpleasant.
  • Someone is suddenly seen sleepwalking. This is tame, at least until his behaviour becomes extremely erratic. Could be disturbing for some.
  • A series of macabre hallucinations. It is unclear which of these are actually happening.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A tragic car accident at the beginning of the film, resulting in at least one death.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Though not scary or in your face at all, in one scene Jack watches a video tape of himself, his father, and a few more babies. One of the babies, presumably Jack, starts crying and his father yells at him to stop. The tape then cuts to the bathroom where there is a drowning baby in the bathtub. This might make a few viewers uncomfortable.
