- Olivia and Jack consider the inevitable challenge of a long distance relationship as Jack begins his new job as chief editor in Seattle. But Jack soon finds himself at an impasse with his boss, who questions Jack's ability to meet his bottom line. Meanwhile, Paul is avoiding a second date with Alex, even as Olivia pressures him to take a chance on love. And as Will promises to shape up in hopes of starting fresh with his sister, his latest mishap proves Olivia was right all along.
- With Olivia's support, Jack decides to take the job as editor-in-chief at the Seattle Courier, despite meaning that he will be Seattle weekdays, with no guarantee that they will even see each other every weekend based on possible work issues on both sides. As such, Olivia contemplates a past offer. Jack soon learns that there are other issues with this job that he didn't anticipate that may be deal breakers. Olivia is dealing with a difficult case of spousal violence, one where the wife, Lisa, doesn't seem to want to admit what is happening in her continued love for her husband, Tom. Olivia and Will come to a new understanding about their sibling relationship, but their words may be interpreted differently by both. Olivia questions Paul about Alex, who he confides to Olivia made the next move in actually asking him out for what he would consider their first official date. While Olivia encourages Paul to get back into the dating scene with Alex, Paul isn't sure that he is ready to date yet... or isn't sure if Alex is the girl, seeing that she's not Olivia. Who was a MIA Rebecca shows up all right, but is overtired and still missed a couple of court appearances. Paul will have to decide how to deal with these issues with Rebecca. Warren decides to take new tacts in dealing with his father, in wanting Buck to leave town for good. Olivia and Maryellen have almost finalized the surprise details around Grace's wedding shower, but a controlling Grace, who has never been good at not knowing what is going on, may end up planning the entire shower much to Olivia and Maryellen's dismay. Justine and Luke have to decide if there is a future for them on their divergent issues of children. And Gloria tries to explain her side to Linnette in what she believes has been badmouthing of her by Rebecca. Gloria's efforts may backfire on her.—Huggo
