Zoey 101 was always a guilty pleasure of the shows I watched as a kid. Looking back, it wasn't really fantastic or anything but it was just one of those shows that held nostalgic value for those who watched it, born in the early to mid 90s. (perhaps I'm generalizing but moving on) On the one hand, it's great to see Chase and Michael again. Their quirky energy was always fun to watch and they work really well off each other. However, there is one factor that kinda ruins the illusion. YOU GUYS ARE 25!! They could get away with it in the TV show because they were kids, but it just seems awkward here.
Also, when you really think about it, the story is kinda pathetic. Chase is about to propose to his girlfriend who bears a slight resemblance to Zoey until suddenly Michael barges in, having dug up the time capsule buried in the ground with items from 10 years earlier, including a DVD of Zoey talking about her life, in which Chase suspected Zoey confessed how she felt about him. I don't know what's sadder. The fact that Michael actually went to the effort of digging it up himself after all these years, or perhaps the fact that Chase still hasn't moved on! Michael reads the transcript of the DVD where Zoey indeed confesses that 'maybe' she may have feelings for him.
Again, she was a teenager when she said this. I liked a girl I used to go to school with too. I didn't keep that crush 10 years later! Chase only needs a tiny glimmer of possibility that Zoey likes him so he can reject his girlfriend, RIGHT AFTER PROPOSING TO HER(!), and runs off with Michael.
The fact that the sheer mention of Zoey's name causes him to do a complete 180° is just ridiculous. I know this is all meant to be a callback but come on, man! Grow up!!
