Ending that makes you lose hope!
beenaarooj19 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just think that Turkish writers go berserk during a series, they start off well but somehow in the middle of it they go all haywire, they come up with all sorts of demented ideas to keep the plot interesting and lose sight of the main theme in the process. The show was about a couple who fought for their love against all odds, it was about hope that kept them going for years ..to kill that hope at the end was downright stupid. The middle and the ending completely ruined the show!

I loved and followed all 267 episodes aggressively with passion but I hate the last one and how it ended!!!
doctorshahraam5 March 2018
I started to watch it few months ago and shortly after a few first episodes it became a part of my daily life. I loved and followed and recommended it to every friend of mine because as an Iranian I related to many part of it culturally. It was well done and except a few minor (whys and how comes...), I truly hooked to this and it glued me to my monitor. I had my breakfasts, lunches and dinners for few months even in bed till 3 am on my tablet... do not need to say this was the longest tv series I have ever seen! I have to tell you this was my first Turkish series and I have to admit the way it ended in last minutes of last episodes (267) , was extremely disappointing, annoying and sadly with terrible impression!!! I expected after tremendous frustrations Emir must have had exploded and Kemal must have survived first if the director or writer of the last episode insisted to have minor changes in ending. The way it ended, gave me the feeling of my time is wasted, bribing and corupption wins at the end! It also brought misjudgment and trust in Turkish justice system. To be honest, just because of last episode and the way it was ended, I do not wish to watch any Turkish series for certain length of time! I do not know how much time I need to heal from the disappointment of the time I had spent watching this lovely series. It killed all the hope and struggle someone could wish when they fight for what they believe in: LOVE. I love to get response from the writer or director of ending episodes!

Excellently made but......

This was a brilliant production; in that casting was spot on ,the atmosphere and lighting were gorgeous and the writers know how to spin a good yarn but why did it all feel so pointless when I got to the end?

Their love is so strong, although they can't be together.
ninadeli11 September 2016
Okay everyone. You really have to take my word for this. Kara Sevda is one of the best series i have ever seen in my life. Its so emotional and real, the characters in the series are amazing! Really guys, if you haven't seen Kara Sevda yet, you have to go and watch it right now. I love the bond between Kemal and Nihan, i feel like its a real thing in the real world. I could watch this all day and never get tired. I have always loved to watch Turkish series, because I am familiar with the culture. I really recommend all of you to watch Kara Sevda, when I am at school everyday, I can 't wait to come home and watch It. And season 2 is out soon, i really can't believe it. Everything Is so dramatic in this series, the characters are so good. I mean, you can't even find that good characters in America. I really feel blessed, because i understand this series. If you haven't watched it yet, believe me.. you really should.

Watching it makes you addicted !!
waseemunnisa22 April 2018
Started watching this series recently and completely in awe ! How can anyone make such a long story flawless. It makes you laugh, cry and above all love every bit of it to an extent you start living those characters. Best part is story and characters are quite real and relatable with subtle and genuine emotions portrayed. Its not that such love stories were never made, but the way its made and presented makes it stand high. Hats off to the entire team - story writer, director, actors, and the people working behind the camera. If i have to describe it in two words - Sweet Addiction

Best drama series - give you a complete dish of everything
rosepratiwi19 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The main storyline is beautiful. It shows us how we can be stronger as long as we have someone to love and be loved. This series also highlighted the value of family, personal value. Although Emir character is unbelievable evil, I still can feel how lonely he is. Burak, Neslihan and Kaan are the main ingredients in this long series. It's an emotional roller coaster. I can feel the strong connection between Kemal and Nihan. But I can't deny an amazing chemistry between Nihan and Emir although in a negative way. The trio is unbelievably make the characters alive. Other supporting roles which is a scene stealer is Leyla. What a wonderful lady, incredible character. This is the best Turkish drama I've ever seen. No wonder this series got an Emmy. Bravo.

Could've been a 10
swtsthng-259-85613031 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This series has a fantastic cast, the chemistry between the leads is palpable and the villain is memorable. This is a fantastic show and I would highly recommend it... if it wasn't for the ending. Luckily I saw spoilers for the ending before I actually got there... but after watching 3/4 of the show, it still left me heartbroken. There's not much I ask for in my shows... but a happy ending is a must. And sadly, this is missing that. It truly would've been a 10 had they just ended up together.

Kara Sevda
sonjabermail16 October 2017
Thanks to the great production, screen writing and awesome actors the term/concept kara sevda has been brought to the homes around Europe and the world. Kara Sevda drama romance (telenovela) with its modern and traditional elements, has reached a new level as a genre. The atmosphere of beautiful scenery, dramatic action, music and dynamic dialogues created a real work of art. Furthermore, the talented and professional acting has been done on a highest level. The wonderful presentation of a range of human emotions was immediately recognized and strongly felt by the audience (viewers). Also, the character development throughout the show was made on a highly original psychological level. As a result the show became a well deserved worldwide success. Kara sevda as a concept has its roots known in history, music, literature and poetry as well. Accordingly, the script, despite many reactions, is original, exciting and loyal to the story line and the title of the romance. To conclude, Kara Sevda with its many drama elements, exciting love story, adventurous plot and amazing characters is certainly worth of the critics to have their words about it in the future, as well as it deserves their respected analysis and attention.

The ending did not make any sense
anusriyam23 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
After slogging through 74 episodes there's not even a happy ending.I think this is a turkish trend or something i dont know what but i am soo disappointed right now!! Its like i wasted 1 whole month watching this series , feeing for them and they end up horrendously!! Hilal saral is a great director but most of her series ends unhappily. I don't know what kick she gets by making us live though every moment building up our hope and then taking it all away in one clean swipe.bad move.

Compelling yet devastating story
marissareeka10 December 2020
It took couple of days for me to write the review of this magnificent show. Honestly, my heart is still hurt after watching it as up to now I still cannot accept the fact how it ended. Frankly speaking, the story was promising and captivating but at the same time it was devastating to watch the last two episodes. Each episode had me shocked and trembled to imagine what would come in the next episode.

The performance of each character was mesmerizing. Especially, the two main leads, they had such extraordinary chemistry to the extent that I couldn't have words to describe. The storyline was well-made, the cinematography was great and last but not least the plot twists and surprises you would experience in the entire episodes.

Well done, Kara Sevda! You have made my life like a roller coaster from the very first episode to the end. Thumbs up!! 👍👍👍👍👍

Heartbreaking in the positive and negative way
terristimyriam14 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I just finished to watch Kara Sevda. What an emptiness left...

It's my third Turkish TV show after Kurt Seyit ve Sura and Calikusu. Kara Sevda production was mostly excellent.

Although the script was not a "groundbreaking" one, the acting was brilliant. I felt very connected to the characters: their personalities, their emotions, their lives.. Without mentioning the captivating chemistry between Kemal and Nihan, the innocent and pure love that everyone would like to feel once in his life; the acting of Leyla and Emir was impressive. They were incredibly talented. I liked the passion of Zeynep towards Emir. I liked the irrational way on how the love was expressed. We could not expect that she was going to repeat the same mistakes again and again despite knowing that she was deeply wrong. The soundtrack of Toygar Isikli was stunning and heartbreaking as well.

However, I agree with many of the reviews, the ending, was in my opinion very very pointless. I do not object to unhappy endings. Not at all. I am used to watch Indian movies and I have found most of the beautiful stories with broken-hearted endings.

But here, it's different. At a certain point (mid-season 2), it was difficult to continue to watch the show. I, almost, sped up each episode because it was to heavy. It was always the same concept: the war trickeries between Emir and Kemal- the short releasing love time for peace between Kemal and Nihan - "et rebelote". By trying to be objective, I cannot understand the "logic" of such an ending. Does such a final part needs 76 episodes with similar episodes? Honestly, it was a bit boring to keep watching but on the other hand, I wanted to know what will be the end. The way it ended was clearly, unexpected. After all of this drama, this time spent... it was so disappointing. Indeed, it ripped out my heart from my chest.

I really kept believing that the ending of Emir and Asu would be made by their mother or Zeynep regarding the evidence that she had against Emir.

Nihan lost her father and her brother because of Emir. What's the point to lost Kemal at the end? Does a human could overcome those kind of hardships?

I didn't understand why Leyla was set aside and didn't appear after the Asu's attempt to kill Nihan? I found it quite botched. As well as the post-Kemal. Just 5 minutes of showing how Nihan survived afterwards.

However the idea of the letter to conclude the show was very well thought.

I don't think that it will possible to have a season 3 but it would be amazing to see a last episode showing that Kemal was, in the end, in coma.

Excellent series but ending made it fail
tempresident5 December 2020
The screen writers must all be sociopaths/narcissists. Evil always wins even in the end. Think they lived their evil, sick dreams through this story. I'm taking note of who screenwriters are and will never watch anything they write ever again.

I will definitely not watch season 2 of this series despite the excellent acting.

This story has many plots and twists which are good but evil always wins. Life is enough, and we watch stories to escape. But stories like this just emphasises the evil and glorifies it. It would've received a 10 rating from me if good could win in the end. This is a big no thank you from me.

Absolutely adore this show
popangelaviss13 January 2017
I don't have enough words to recommend this Turkish show - 1st episode - it takes a while to get into it, but you will be captivated by the end of episode 2. Love all the characters in the show - Script writers have done an amazing job with this TV series - I hope it will go on to series 3 - we will see. Kemal and Nihan - have got so much chemistry together - it's hard to imagine that it's otherwise in real life - Kemal's acting skills - BRILLIANT. Emir is the one person in the show that you will either love or hate. He is a psychopath - I can't describe him in any other way. I think it's filmed in Istanbul - location and views are beautiful - I watch the show with English subtitles .

Very nice story with horrible ending
zoghali21 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The ending just ruined my view about the whole story. After all the brain and brilliance Kemal used throughout the film, it wasn't acceptable from him to step on a mine without a second thought, let alone die from it. Very very bad. Also the message was not pleasant for couples that are in love. Fighting for love against evil brings death?? What a horrible view of love this story is presenting to audience.

Best series ever!!!
noraboumansour-0299427 September 2018
I adore this series, never have watched something captivating, interesting and attractive as this TV show... it's so emotional and full of love, tears, hatred, conspiracies, disappointments, ... it's so real that you can feel yourself a part of the story... love the actors, decoration, clothes, residences, sights, dialogues, everything... though I wish that the end was different in a way which doesn't rip out your heart from your chest and leave you in tears ... however this series deserves every star, award and/or positive review it gets ....

Extremely believable acting by Neslihan. All the characters in this series have their dark sides, weaknesses, secrets, strange kind of love. KARA Sevda kind (Dark).

"Bitter Love" Would Be a Better Translation
mkdropper15 August 2023
In Turkey, Turkish TV series are not very popular, especially among young people. They even become a subject of ridicule up to a point. But this series is not one of them. The series that the channels are obliged to produce every year and that easily make their finales receive bad criticism from people because they are like a kind of factory output. Most of them are copy and paste series that focus entirely on love triangles. However, there used to be good Turkish TV series. This series is actually one of them. So what makes this series different from them?

The series definitely started off well. I mean, it's good in general. I don't think anyone would object. The writers have a good story in mind. But story writers know that the story changes shape as they write. I think there is a good plot. The characters are good, they really make you feel. We have a very interesting villain. I mean a straight bad guy. Sometimes they do this and that in his past, but it doesn't really make sense. I mean, some villains are not so bad afterwards, I don't know if you're aware of that, but one of the best examples is Flowey from the Undertale series. He's probably the one that started this whole "curable villain" thing. But now people are really tired of these characters. At least I am. Emir, our villain, is definitely a psychopath and nothing more. Especially in the second half of the series, there are interesting scenes to sympathize (?) Emir. They also put some sweet music. But the character they wrote really doesn't fit this profile at all. I see it as a futile effort and I condemn it, but that's the bad thing about being broadcast and made for profit. Actually, our story starts off very well, but it goes on so unnecessarily long. During this prolongation, it manages to keep the excitement by being really interesting, but after a certain point, something really forced and illogical happens. In other words, neither the police nor the law works correctly in a series that approaches crime fiction. Just like in science-related works, they say quantum and get rid of everything, they prolonged this series by using the terms they wanted. I don't think there is really a need to drag it out this long, but I can't really deduct points because they really managed to keep the excitement alive despite this much dragging out. So what happens at the end of all this prolongation? Nothing very interesting happens. Look, I love bad endings. I love Sabahattin Ali's novels with pointlessly bad endings, I love reading Berserk, but what they did after taking so long is really pointless. Especially what they used as a method, if it was really 35 episodes, it could have done very well globally, but as it is, it is a series that started well and then used as a money machine. Don't be surprised by my score after talking about it so badly, because as I said, the writers have kept the excitement alive while doing these things and created episodes that do not advance the story but make you watch the series with a really successful sitcom. Since the elements such as the plot of the series and the side characters are strong, there have been series that have managed to survive until the last episode. Dear writers, we should not make endings for the sake of making them "bad", we should make endings because they make sense in the course of the story. I am sure that they are aware of this, because no writer would prefer such an ending, but it is as if orders came from somewhere.

Maybe it's because I was exposed for 185 hours, the acting is great. It's like they became people around me. The character characterizations are really good. The writers knew that the more specific the characters are and the more different they are from each other, the better they will work, and they definitely did a great job with that. And the actors really fit these characters. They fit so well that it is now possible to base these characters on these actors. I can say that the actors were really effective with their acting on top of that. Although Emir's villain performance definitely stands out, it would not be wrong to say that Nihan also shows her acting skills. Sometimes she cries as if these events really happened. I would love to be on set and watch how she does it, it can't be easy to cry like that.

The music is really good. However, 25 songs are really too few for a 186-hour series. There are 2-3 new songs towards the end but it's not enough. Despite this, the music is really beautiful and they reflect it well. At this point, it is necessary to say when Toygar Isikli made bad music. As for the shooting and visuals, I didn't see anything extra. In fact, the acting was better in this part. In other words, nothing extra was done in the series, there were no moments where I said what a beautiful shot, but I don't remember it ever grinning, and no series has the task of impressing me.

The series started off very well, but it was stretched out a bit with dozens of sitcom-like episodes, but that didn't stop me from watching it. I can even say that I loved it. I don't like love-oriented stories. It is a series that goes into different topics and handles them well enough without getting too far away from the focus on love (except for the extended episodes). I recommend it with peace of mind.

Please do another season for Kara Sevda
melgonzalves13 August 2019
The realist, most passionate series I have ever seen, so much chemistry between the actors, so much emotion, and it is even making me the viewer emotional, I really hope that the producers will some day soon please bring us one or two more seasons, just two is not enough. I have started to watch the series from episode one again.

Starts of well, but just gets worse and worse
dvargas20003 June 2023
I'd say watch the first 15 episodes and you can stop there. The storylines/reasons for them not being able to get together is just absurd and unbelievable towards the middle and last episodes. Apparently the villain of the story has some kind of magical power over her and makes her stay to him /sarcasm.

The two lovers get close, and then some incredulous reasons she is somehow forced to go back, and for some reason can't explain to him what's going on. . Or she leads him on, and then all of a sudden, it's too impossible to be together. Besides that, no man I know would want to be with someone so narcissitic and emotionally weak (literally crying every 5 minutes) as Nihan. She was just annoying as anything, and I actually found myself rooting for Kemal and Asu (a much better pair in my opinion, than for Nihan to even be in the picture so to speak. You kind of have the same disgust for her that you do for Emir, her husband. It was so promising but then declines from there. The amount of crying the female lead does over the course of the show probably could fill up an ocean. Seriously - it seems she's crying at least 70% of any episode!

Kara Sevda
florette-273384 July 2020
Please please please, how can any director story teller let kara Sevda end in such a terrible cruel way??? I can now not think of this movie as being good. I would have given it 10 if Emir stepped on that landmine which he planted for Kemal. Revolting obnoxious most disappointing movie I have ever seen. Directors should be ashamed of themselves giving such a story where they fought so hard for love, such a cruel ending.👹👹👹👹Disgusting, I have no words and have no wish to watch it again. What for?? You made a fool of the public as well as the actors. What bad reports you got for doing this. Shame on the producers and directors of this movie, shame on you!!!!

A lot of contradictions, exaggerations, and gaps in this work..Emir is not a god,Zeynep was not a lover she was a btch and a traitor,Kamal s family was so low,a heart breaking and terrible ending, life is already hard as it is the bad guys are winning couldn't you just let them lose in a TV series!...the most beautiful thing in Kara Sevda was Nihan..
