The monologue of Mark in front of the camera inside the bathroom, includes quotes from 9 Madonna songs, including Bedtime Stories, La Isla Bonita, Erotica and more.
There is a flash-back scene with a ballet school and a guy holding the camera, shooting video of his daughter. This was inspired from the scene in Andrej Zulawski's Possession, in which there is a flash-back scene with Isabelle Adjani, who is teaching young girls inside a ballet school while talking directly to the camera. This is a direct tribute, while in Paraphrenia the scene becomes even more complicated, not only having the young girl inside the ballet school talking directly to the camera, but also after the video is frozen on the computer screen the sound is still on. Judy, the main character is having an interactive conversation with the frozen video on the computer screen.
In the movie Alien 2 sulla Terra, a mother is looking for the young boy at a beach. After a while, she recognizes the boy's back, gets closer and hears him crying. The alien has eaten off the boy's face. In Paraphrenia, there is a direct Homage for that scene, with Judy dreaming about a favorite beach during a session with her Psychologist. In that beach she finds her girlfriend Jessica behind some bushes crying. Jessica slowly turns her head to the camera, which is covered by red stains which look like veins or nerves.
