I couldn't stop watching it

I couldn't stop watching it... It really wasn't very good in terms of the story line and predictability but those dogs were just so darn cute I will just watch them singing songs without any story to go along with it.

Once was not BS but now is BS
criticj23 April 2020
I am not going to lie when I say this. I once had some admiration for this film, but after seeing the last two sequels after the first sequel(and looking back at the original today),I felt as though my eyes were going to decay like a rotten apple. Robert Vince, who was not complete garbage back when he produced the original Air Bud and Air Buddies series, has apparently ruined this original of the entire Pup Star series with the sequels Pup Star World Tour and Puppy Star Christmas in a way that I won't make this review very long with. As a result, Pup Star has now been officially banned from my library of digital purchase streaming media as well as other future productions from Air Bud Entertainment such a Pup Academy.

It Was Good

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked how this film at the beginning showed how humans were able to talk to dogs and how that evolution took place in order to understand how dogs were able to talk to humans and be able to understood. This really helped to set up the film and with it having to do with a dog singing competition helped to show how humans were able to enjoy them even though dogs were mostly in control. Another thing about this film in which I thought was a really great addition was that all of the dogs which were in the pound with Tiny after she got stolen were able to find homes and an owner which was perfect for them along their journey, I loved this as it made the dogs seem a lot more real as well as make the audience care a lot more for the dogs within the movie. Having the audience not really understand why Bark and Charlie had problems with each other until near the end was something I found helped to keep my attention throughout the movie and kept me wondering what really happened between them and why Bark was so determined to get rid of Charlie. The singing within this movie was really well done in my opinion and I thought was really sweet showing different styles of music throughout it with the different breeds of dog. Finally, I really liked the humour which was in Pup Star and it did make me smile and laugh on a couple of occasions which is something in which I was looking for when I started this movie.

Unfortunately, there was problems with this movie as well such as the CGI within the film which you could tell was not perfect throughout the movie and did make some of the scenes not as good as they could have been while also making the scene seem more amateur. Not only this but I found that at points my attention kept leaving the movie which is something which did disappoint me as it was a film in which was a good watch and something that was really easy viewing.

Overall, I did like this movie and glad I did give Pup Star a watch as it was enjoyable and something which was very easy watching which is something in which I was looking for. I would recommend this movie to families who are looking for a movie to watch together as well as those who are looking for an adventure movie which involves dogs. I would watch this film again but it isn't something in which I could watch all of the time.

Pup star is the best movie i've ever seen, I was going to kill myself but then i watched this movie and now i am blessed. My favorite characters include (but are not limited to) Big Ears Baby, Tini, and Aisian Steryotype Doggo. The editing in this movie is incredible, i really thought that the dogs were talking. In conclusion, Pup Star is the greatest movie to ever exist on the space rock we call earth.

Thank You, death is inevitable, and have a nice day.

And adorable movie for the whole family
ComedyFan201026 April 2018
The target audience of this movie are mainly young kids but the adults who watch it with them will also get to enjoy it.

It is about a cute dog Tiny participating in a singing competition. It seems to be based on American Idol. I am not a fan of the show but I could see that the jury dogs were created based on the original jury of American Idol.

Like kid movies should it includes a learning message of fighting for one's dreams and to do it in a fair way. It also includes a lot of adventures that will keep the kids interested.

Us adults will be able to guess how the movie will go, but it is still enjoyable to watch especially if one loves dogs. The dogs are incredibly cute and also get us to laugh.

Fantastic, family, fun, funny, cute and really cool.

A Yorkshire Terrier, competing in a televised singing competition, is separated from her owner by an opportunistic dog pound worker.

Fantastic, family, fun, funny, cute and really cool.

A purebred puppy participates in a singing competition on TV and ends up separated from her owner by an opportunistic kennel employee.

Stuffed with artistic references that most are unaware of, cute, with little animals that move their mouths when talking, however more of the same when it comes to the producer, Air Bub entertainment, less interesting than the equally cute "Bub: O Cão Amigo" from the same producer...

Fun, Fantastic, Family-Friendly Film With Talking And Singing Dogs
rannynm14 September 2016
Pup Star is a fun, fantastic, family-friendly film! It really is an amazing and inspiring movie with talking and singing dogs. I found myself cheering for the super talented Tiny and booing the bad guys, or should I say bad dogs!

The story is about Tiny, an adorable Yorkie pup who dreams of becoming the next Pup Star, which is a spin off of the popular TV singing competition reality shows. The celebrity judges include Dog Gnarly, Blake Sheltie, Lady Paw Paw and of course, Simone Growl.

Along Tiny's journey, she is dog napped, meets colorful companions and becomes a more inspired singer with the help of Charlie, who is on his own journey. Tiny is encouraged by everyone she meets to keep going and not give up on her dreams. My favorite part is when Tiny sings. Kaitlyn Maher's voice over and singing of Tiny is outstanding and all 13 original songs are so strong melodically that I found myself humming along to the song Blue Skies after watching it. Additionally, the various voice over and singing talents for all the other dogs are equally impressive.

The message of this film is never give up and follow your dreams. Tiny faces many challenges and tries her hardest to persevere and reconnect with her loving family.

The talking and singing dogs are created with amazing special effects. Their mouths move in perfect harmony with the words and lyrics. Also, I love the rich and emotional music composed by Brahm Wenger which draws you in from the get go. I recently had the privilege to interview the writer and producer of Pup Star, Anna McRoberts and she mentioned that this is the biggest cast of talking and singing dogs ever in one movie - 31 total. Bow Wow!!!

Out of all the Air Bud Entertainment movies, this is my favorite. We can all relate to following our dreams no matter what they are and cheering for the underdog. I recommend this film to kids age 5 to 18 as well as anyone who loves dogs – kids and adults alike. With so many wonderful things to love about this family friendly film movie, I give it 5 out of 5 pup stars! I want to share one more thing: throughout this entire film, I actually forgot that dogs don't really talk… or do they?

My 8 year olds favorite movie
josh-3907513 April 2022
This is my 8 year olds favorite, has been for a while now. She sings along and quotes the movie as it plays. A dog is caught by the dog catcher and somehow escapes and gets on a American Idol type show.

Netflix has all the sequels and IMDB tv has this one, the original.

Best film ever made ever, Jesus made it, literally Jesus made it!
ziajah5 January 2017
Oh my actual Jesus in the sky! All of you just sit down and listen up this is the best film and the funniest film I have ever seen. It nearly had my 19 year old friend (excuse my french) bloomin hospitalised XD He couldn't breathe, He literally couldn't breathe until the main character was not on screen XD He bruised his body slapping the surroundings like a dying whale just to try and get a minute breath into his lungs! My head literally hurts from laughing so hard I may need to lie down before finishing the review. All ages nearly died but in the best way and I would say it is a FLAWLESS TIMELESS Masterpiece. 10/10 best movie ever AMEN. Roll on number 2!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome family-friendly adventure
biggahoolefan26 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is one awesome movie. The story is awesome, the dog Tiny is just plain adorable, and the songs are original and fantastic.

In this world, dogs can not only talk, they can also sing! Makenzie Moss plays Lou, a nine-or-so-year-old girl, whose dog, Tiny, an extremely cute Yorkie, dreams of winning the singing completion for dogs, Pup Star. She earns a spot in the final, but goes missing, unfortunately, and is captured by a greedy dogcatcher, Roland (Jed Rees), and must find her way to New York in time for the Pup Star finals.

David DeLuise, the youngest son of the late comedian Dom DeLuise, is really good as Steven, the father of Lou, who I think is a lawyer (though it's not made clear what his job is), and since Lou's mother passed away prior to the film's events, money seems to be tight (despite Steven offering a $10,000 reward for her return). They have a Nanny, Ida (Carla Jimenez), who is incredible.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Kaitlyn Maher, who voices Tiny. She is so fantastic, it is impossible to put into words. She appeared on "America's Got Talent" several years back at the age of four and made it to the Top 10. In this movie, she shines.

Of course, if it wasn't for one person, I might never have known about this movie, and that person is Brian Hull, who voices a sheepdog called Murray. He's really good as Murray. Thank you, Brian, for voicing such an awesome character!

I do have a couple of issues with this movie, unfortunately. There are a couple of scenes where one character, Charlie (Tom Everett Scott, really good), picks up Tiny by her sweater and puts her into the back of a truck, and later, a hot air balloon. It is quite obvious that the "dog" he picks up is not real. It's far too stiff to be real. I understand that they couldn't use the real dog, but they could have at least used CGI to make it more authentic.

Also, most of the songs are way too short. The longest is "Rolling Bone", at just over three minutes long. I wish the director had made some of them a bit longer, especially "Broken-Hearted", a country song by "the Queen of Country", Emily-Rose, a Basset Hound. I absolutely love country music, and would have liked to see a longer version of this song in the movie.

There's also a brief scene where we see a dog talking through a mirror, though the real dog at the side is clearly not moving his mouth. I wish they had caught that in the editing process.

These are just a few minor complains, though. The songs are ALL original, so you most likely won't recognize any of them, which, in this case, is a good thing. Overall, the movie is worthwhile and enjoyable. The positive themes are to believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams. That is something that should be taken away from this film.

Go watch it on Netflix, if you have it. If not, go to someone who has Netflix and watch it there. It is worth your time.
