The band...

...is really good! This movie definitely has better music than you've come to expect from these kinds of movies.

Apart from that, the movie seemed a little phoned-in. Not bad, but not good either. I watch a lot of these, so I knew what to expect! Wouldn't re-watch.

Small Town Love

Warning: Spoilers
There's nothing really wrong with this film but there's nothing that I saw that was exciting, or grabbed my attention more so than other scenes. I mainly watched this for Lochlyn Munro; I remember the first film of his I saw: 'Unforgiven'. It wasn't a huge role but it was memorable, to me at least. Then other films of his I enjoyed 'A Night at the Roxbury', 'Scary Movie', 'Duets', and "White Chicks'. He's great as a comedian; except for 'Unforgiven' and a minor few other films, never really thought he had range in anything else. The only other person I have heard of in this film is Emily Tennant, and she was good in it for what this type of film is but nothing more, really.

I disliked the composition. Not talking of the other music like in the bar scenes etc., just the composition. Didn't like it. It doesn't sound bad it's just a boring composition. The plot was okay, I guess. Not too much to it, sort of reminded me of the film 'Sweet Home Alabama': small town girl goes to the big city to live a life and then comes back to the small town (in this case for a wedding) and an old flame sparks feelings again and should she stay or go back to the big city? That's a problem with these types of films: when another film with a similar plot pops in your head while watching it. 'Made of Honor' also popped in my head mainly because of the boyfriend of the girl who comes back...As I said: it's not a bad film (if it was: based on my other reviews my review here would be ten times longer) but nothing grabbed me.

Dude. Run for the Hills!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm used to dumb stuff to choose to overlook when I am looking at Hallmark or Hallmark-style movies. But this one takes the cake for the most petulant, stupidest, most incompetent bride ever. With about a week to go before her wedding Emily Tennant plays the bride who hasn't done her seating arrangements, hired a caterer, purchased flowers, decided on a cake, or chosen her colors yet. All she does is sit around and whine about how her wedding is "out of control" as far as complications, guest list, and expense. All things she has complete control over. Oh and she's an artist, so it's not like she has an inflexible 48 hour a week time-suck of a career.

She viciously turns on her sweet fiance who had the utter gall to give her a fun jokey gift of muffin tins for a surprise extra gift for getting their marriage license. She sulks for days over this and almost cancels the wedding. She is petulant and unreasonable over everything. She selfishly and thoughtlessly disappears on her wedding day throwing her family and her fiance into a panic just so she can sulk some more.

The main lead, her sister, Shenae Grimes, arrives to save the day and while she is back home, dump her bad boyfriend, quit her engineering career as the head of design to become an auto-mechanic, and find a new boyfriend. Tyler Hines is as reliable and attractive as the new guy who has loved her since middle school.

The only thing I loved about this disaster was the bride's head dress which was gorgeous and very unusual. Yes, unfortunately for the groom, the wedding took place.

A nice film
dankertcl23 October 2021
While not in danger of becoming a classic, it is a nice family film. Just what PIXL strives for. I give it 10 stars for accomplishing a movie without gratuitous foul language and sexual situations, of which both are found in far too many films of late.

Mechanical love
TheLittleSongbird30 July 2023
There is always at least one main reason for me of seeing a film, television programme etcetera. In the case of 'The Mechanics of Love', it was Tyler Hynes. Have seen a good deal of his work overtime, primarily his Hallmark output (with him being a regular of theirs), and while he has been in average at best films and even duds he himself has consistently impressed me. The concept also sounded quite nice, have always had a thing for good or more concepts.

On the whole, however, 'The Mechanics of Love' doesn't do an awful lot with it. It had the potential to be a cute, inoffensive film that one shouldn't expect too much from, but it turned out instead to be rather lazy in most areas. 'The Mechanics of Love' is not terrible or unwatchable, it takes me a lot to call anything either of those things, but it does not have very much to it and doesn't have much of interest other than two pretty decent performances and music.

Regarding those two pretty decent performances, they come from Hynes and also from Emily Tennant. Hynes is easy going and charming, though it does have to be said that he has given better performances elsewhere with more interesting material. Tennant's character did frustrate me for reasons that will be come onto later, but she injects a lot of perky energy into the role and is the performer that is the most animated by far.

Production values are also quite nice and there is some nice upbeat-ness in the music.

Upbeat for me though is the last thing to describe everything else. Shenae Grimes-Beech looks uncomfortable throughout and goes through the motions, and there is nothing memorable about the rest of the cast. The chemistry also seemed mechanical and under-rehearsed and the direction was pretty pedestrian.

Furthermore, the story goes at a dull pace, offers no surprises (including the seemingly obligatory too convenient ending) and tonally is quite bland. Found some of it on the contrived side as well. The dialogue is artificial at best and never sounds natural and is instead forced. Didn't care for the characters, who are all very underdeveloped and lack personality. Tennant's character's stupidity is taken to extremes later on and it was frustrating.

In conclusion, lacklustre and with a mechanical phoned in feel. 4/10.

What did I miss?
Jackbv12328 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can't really say anything interesting happened in this movie, either good or bad. The movie isn't horrible, but neither is it good.

I thought it started pretty good and I was looking forward to getting to know Matti and maybe watch her fall in love. Did that even happen? I think it did, but did it show on the screen, because I didn't see much to indicate that until the kiss at the end. I think the writers spread the story out too much among maybe 6 people and as a result diluted what might have been an interesting story.

The acting was OK, more like so-so. Someone said they phoned it in. Yeah. I've seen Tyler Hines in several things and he's pretty steady. That's about the best I can say for him in this movie. Shenae Grimes-Beech was also so-so. The character with the most life was Emily Tennant. She wasn't the lead, but she wasn't far from it.

I'd say the story was predictable, but that would assume that something happened to predict.
