I remember watching Creature Feature at 10:30 Saturday nights with my dad at the age of probably 3 or 4 years old. It was Dr. San Guinary and his regular showings of old horror and sci-fi B-movies that inspired my lifelong interest in the genres, particularly in Japanese kaiju films. I'm old enough to remember when Saturday Night Live finally supplanted Creature Feature on KMTV in the 10:30 time slot in 1976 (KMTV initially resisted airing SNL), and I was so disappointed, as Creature Feature was moved to midnight and past my bedtime. They did run a "Creature Double Feature" the first Saturday of each month for a few years after, starting at 10:30, when apparently SNL didn't air a new show. Based on my own research, Dr. San Guinary hosted the show from March 13, 1971 to September 20, 1980. After that Creature Feature was unhosted for two or three years, but still featured the creepy haunted house at the beginning and end of each broadcast. I finally met Dr. San Guinary (John Jones) at a fundraiser in Lincoln in 1981. He was always active in charity fundraisers, as well as being a volunteer firefighter and father of two boys. It's sad that a man of such talent and compassion passed away of cancer at age 46. May he rest in peace.
