Guilty or not?
Sleepin_Dragon30 August 2022
Paul, his family and team head to court, where a Jury must decide one central question, is Paul guilty or not.

It's a pretty good final, the story has been evenly spread over the four, it's moved along nicely, here we get to learn the truth, we are given flashbacks, and we see the outcome of The Trial.

It's been a very interesting series, very watchable, I thought the acting here was terrific, Coltrane and Walters were awesome, huge credit also to Susan Lynch, she was great here, the character was very believable.

Did he win or lose, it's an interesting question, it was the outcome I had expected.

A truly thought provoking drama, with the forthcoming Jimmy Saville drama coming up, it's maybe worth another look.

7/10.

National Treasure 4

Warning: Spoilers
I have always felt that National Treasure was a little bit too stylized, overwrought and at times clunky. I think the problem was that it was really a two hour film padded out as a four hour series.

The topical subject matter of well loved or slightly sinister (take your pick) television personalities abusing women and in some cases young girls came as a shock to many people in Britain.

The Channel 4 television series had to tread a fine line given the sensitivities of the victims.

However I could not help that the final episode was a disappointment. The previous episode indicated that Paul might be innocent of the crimes with the evidence uncovered by his defence team.

It was never going to be simple as that. Paul is either going to be found guilty or alternatively he would be found innocent with some flashback reveal that he really did commit the crimes. You can sense that given what has happened in real life that he can never be entirely innocent.

At least at court Paul owns up to the harm caused by his philandering behaviour to his wife. Marie at the end is convinced he really did do it and wants out.

I have to say the way it was edited, you could be forgiven in feeling confused as to what happened. At the end when Paul is shouting for Marie, we question whether he has lost his own mind.
