Amazing web series
tckrcmrn31 March 2023
Thomas Frick has managed to do the impossible with very limited means and made a web series with 3 seasons to boot. Crime shows don't generally interest me but I dig the vibe Frick has created for his show. I love the world building that went into the show and the storyline is generally thought out but at times the limited budget and resources show. I think if the show is to continue, Thomas Frick should use a new and original villian and stick to what Dexter did for most of its run of having him tackle a new foe more dangerous than the one before while sorting out his private life. Overall the production value is great for what it is and guerilla filmmaking at its finest. Some legit professional television shows are inferior to Darkest Case because of stale writing and not trying anything new. Having worked on a couple of Frick's short films, he has his work cut out for him and more organized than a lot of productions. My only other critic his short films are way too similar in the plot and style of Darkest Case. Seeing Clinton Bailiff act as one of the main villains is worth the binge watching of the whole series.

Crime Drama on budget
pgodlewski10 April 2023
It's easy to criticize the small budget stuff without knowing how much actual work and passion goes into the project. Thomas Frick's Darkest Case is a fantastic web series that focuses on the storytelling. The characters are great and pull you in for a good mystery thriller. One of best parts for me personally is that the show matures and grows stronger as it goes further along. A lot of series can start out strong and fizzle out fast but that's not the case here. It is great to see the filmmakers grow and expand their knowledge over the years and this series is a perfect study of that. As an amateur filmmaker I often overlook the small mistakes and look at the bigger picture. I would love to see something like this on a bigger budget because there is a lot of promise in Frick's acting as well as his storytelling as a filmmaker. Keep up the good work.

Fun little ride...

I'm gonna be honest, I was a little surprised with this show, not normally the type of story I follow so take my review with a grain of salt.

Darkest Case is an amateur short series about an off the books detective and his escapades in taking down a secret organization.

There are 3 seasons, each very different from the last.

Season 1 is low budget and feels low budget, but there is something special about it, for some reason I keep coming back to it and still get enjoyment. It has a lot of issues, primarily in it's pacing, but it has a certain charm to it, and was my favorite part of the series.

Season 2 is a much more streamlined story. Straightforward and to the point, no unnecessary filler and strange direction choices. This season is also the prettiest by far. Some of the shots remind me of old school horror movies, and the opening of the first episode has some of the prettiest imagery I've seen in amature films. To put it simply, the director definitely matured from where he was at in season 1 and his story matured with him.

Season 3 is the most experimental. Rather than being a crime drama, it's focus directs more towards the media, and how it can affect the truth. I haven't really dove into season 3, and it's not over yet, so I don't have much more to say unfortunately

Overall, it's a short show with alright storytelling, decent direction, good cinematography, and some cool fight scenes. It's lower budget than a college film and still better than most of them, and from an outsider's perspective it seems like most of the cast and crew had a good time filming; which is always a plus. Look forward to seeing more from the director!!!

Thrilling Series

I absolutely loved the series! Yes, you can tell from the first season that the budget was probably limited, but that makes the feat of developing an enticing story even greater. You get the opportunity to see the actors and their respective characters grow throughout each episode and season. The storyline is a classic with its own unique twist, and the characters each got their moment to show off what they can display. My favorite character would have to be Detective Todd. He has an engaging personality that kept me entertained throughout the entire series! I'm looking forward to seeing more from him!

Followed all his work and this man really puts his all into his art. No matter what series or video he makes you can feel the passion and love for film making he puts into everything. Darkest case is a thrilling ride that I highly recommend. All the actors and people involved do an excellent job. If you're into crime dramas I say give this a shot and have fun. Be sure to check out his other work because he has a wide range of different content for everyone to enjoy. Sky is the limit with him and we will continue to watch his career with great interest! Give this man the appreciation he deserves.
